A friend in need is a friend in deed

A Friend in Need is a Friend IndeedLadies and Gentlemen, good morning, it’s my great honor to be here to give you this speech named “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. It’s a proverb about true friends. Everyone knows that proverb, but I don’t think that everyone knows the connotation of that sentence.First, let’s listen to a story about “friends”. Two men were walking in the forest. They are friends. When a fierce bear attacked them, all things had changed. The thinner man quickly climbed up to the top of a tree and forgot his promise to the fatter guy who could not climb the tree. Luckily, the fatter man saved himself. The fatter man was very disappointed, and when they got together again, he said break up. The fatter man said to the thinner man, “you are not my real friend. Only a friend in need is a friend indeed”. In the end of this story, they never had been friend again.Everyone needs friend, so how to make true friends is very important to everybody. A man in the progress of development will meet many difficulties. Sometimes, difficulty might become your cumber. So, in this situation, a true friend is very important for you. In other words, your friends can help you out of trouble. A true friend not only shares your happiness, but also your vexation. When you get in trouble, your true friend will come towards you andencourage you. This encouragement not just in words but in action!A true friend will do something for you to let you get rid of all fret around you! A true friend will always close to you no matter you in good or poor condition.True friendship is a slow-growing plant. Understanding is definitely the soil that raising all fruit of the friendship. By the way, as a young college student, we should make more friends, so what’s the true friend and how to make a true friend become a question. In my opinion, on the one hand, to make friends, you must be friendly to others. A smile is like a magnet that draws people. Smile at others and you are always sure to get a smile in return. So in our daily life, we should treat others friendly and sincere, On the other hand, if you don’t agree with your friends, don’t argue but discuss with them. You should think more of others than of yourselves. Above all things, don’t believe those who leave their friends when they are in trouble, because “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.。

全新版大学英语(第二版)综合教程_第四册_Unit 5 Never Judge by Appearances——A Friend in NeedA Friend in Need(by Somerset Maugham)For thirty years now I have been studying my fellowmen. I do not know very much about them. I shrug my shoulders when people tell me that their first impressions of a person are always right. I think they must have small insight or great vanity. For my own part I find that the longer I know people the more they puzzle me.

//我最老的朋友们,恰恰是我可以说一点也不了解的人。

These reflections have occurred to me because I read in this morning's paper that Edward Hyde Burton had died at Kobe. He was a merchant and he had been in business in Japan for many years. I knew him very little, but he interested me because once he gave me a great surprise. Unless I had heard the story from his own lips, I should never have believed that he was capable of such an action. It was more startling because both in appearance and manner he suggested a very definite type. Here if ever was a man all of a piece. He was a tiny little fellow, not much more than five feet four in height, and very slender, with white hair, a red face much wrinkled, and blue eyes. I suppose he was about sixty when I knew him. He was always neatly and quietly dressed in accordance with his age and station.

a friend in need is a friend indeed

a friend in need is a friend indeed

A friend in need is a friend indeedAs we all know, a friend in need is a friend indeed, a harmonious friendship is as necessary as the air around us. So we should find some true friends in our daily life. Here is my story: when I was in high school, math is my weak subject, and I was very sad about it. During the class, I have difficulty in catching the teacher carefully, so after the class, it always takes me large number of time to understand the question, and sometimes even didn’t have time to do other things. What a mess situation! To whom could I turn for help? I was at a loss, too said and too tired. Then a friend of mine who was done well in math subject came, saying that she would always there to help me if needed, just say it out, and it could also save a lot of time by just thinking about the problem by myself and even couldn’t get an answer in most situation. She was so sincerely that I was moved deeply by her words. Then, most sometimes after class; she would came to ask me if there was a problem. With her help, my math became much better and I was very happy about this. Then, I realized the proverb: A friend in need is a friend indeed. It’s true.A true friend is the one who could help you when you are in trouble, the one who could share your sorrows other than just the happiness. A true friend should do what they can to help each other when needed. Last but least, a true friend should always be in your side to support you, toencourage you or to comfort you. In a word, a friend in need is a friend indeed, and he or she will always there for you.。

What is a Friend?Everyone needs a friend, because we are not the only one in the world. We need someone to talk to and share our happiness and sorrow. Last night, I saw a movie, the protagonist’s friend asked him what was a friend, and he gave the answer that a friend was someone you can talk about your secret and you would share food with. It is a child’s opinion, and it is simple and real.A friend is someone who we can trust, we don’t have to hide ourselves and just who we are. We will feel comfortable with them. When we are in trouble, we will think of them and they will come to help.

A friend of me 正确吗?

A friend of me 正确吗?

A friend of me 正确吗?

本文围绕“A friend of me”是否正确这一问题展开研究。

【关键词】英语所有格 friend 指示代词不定代词通常在英语语句中,若果名词的前面置有冠词a、an或定冠词the,数词one, two, three…,指示代词this,that, these, those,或不定代词some, many…

1.This is a portrait of Mr. White’s.

2.This is a portrait of Mr. White.

3.在“Tony was a friend of mine.”

(A Friend)he wasn’t a guy of big words, and he seemed to live entirely in his own world. i remember that during the days he worked with us none of us exactly knew who he was, where he came from or what he was looking for, and afterwards he disappeared. nobody knew where he had gone, what he was doing or if he had friends or a family to stay with. i guess, we didn’t even know his name----and even if we did, i’ve forgotten it anyway.those days were more than hard for all of us. there seemed to be no escape from the greyness of our everyday life which was the only colour that surrounded us. the huge concrete blocks we lived in was grey, the grey of the factory dust, even the colour of our clothes, that once might have been white was grey. it must have been a bright and shining white... and i can’t exactly recall how much time i spent trying to imagine the kind of white it might have been. since white was the colour of the kind of paradise i so much longed to live in someday, grey left behind nothing more than a bitter taste of emptiness and depression. i can remember how i noticed once, that any other colour must be a symbol for something, a feeling or whatever. only grey seemed to stand for absolutely nothing. this was the world i lived in, and so did he.having our job in the factory was still luxury though, considering the fact that most of us had families to feed. and not long after he started to work there, i would always find him working at the machine next to mine. we’d work for hours next to each other, staying quiet, with our thoughts drifting away to a different place but still aware of our hands doing the same movements over and over again. we were doing that until the bell would ring to end the work for the day. i used to work in a mechanical way, following the same rhythm over and over again, and so did he. but every time i was about to give up, he would lift his head and give me a little smile, as if he could guess my thoughts. i think it was actually his eyes that impressed me most. they were so dark and straight, and though they seem to be hiding anything, i couldn’t get rid of the impression that somehow he must be hiding something.since i first saw him, he had always been around, and every time he gave me one of those smiles, he would spread abit of warmth into my heart, a bit of friendliness. i guess, at the end of the day it must have been him who gave me the strength to go on somehow, just by being there.well, to make a long story short, he died only a year after he started working with us. it was a car accident and he didn’t have to suffer very long. i must have been his only friend in town, at least that was what i thought when i went to his funeral. the only person i met there was an old lady, maybe his mother. she told me that he had lost his family just the year before and after that he didn’t speak any more. he hadn’t said a single word. first i didn’t believe her. i just thought that he was a fairly quiet person; besides there was nothing much to say anyway. but suddenly i realized that i couldn’t recall ever having heard his voice at all. only then did i realize it!.he gave me so much and i knew so little about him. he had been my friend and now i had lost him without having had the chance to give anything back. he had been so strong that he was able to give whatever had happened.i felt weak in those days. and guilty. but after that i started to care for the people around me. i think i started to live.。

The Hare and the Tortoise
One day a hare was telling the other animals how fast he could run. "I can beat anyone!" he cried.
"Will one of you try a race with me?" "I will " said the tortoise.
"You!? "laughed the hare. "Oh, oh, how funny!? "
"Save your laughing for the end of the race, " said the tortoise.
So a starting line was made, and away they went. The hare ran fast and was soon far ahead, so he sat down to rest. By the time the tortoise came up, the hare was sleeping.
On and on went the tortoise, and when the hare looked up at last, it was too late.
There sat the tortoise by the sign that said: The End.
