twenty-one-mile作 tunnel的修饰语，注意 mile为单数。
plan for +名词/动名词表示“……的计划”：They always make plans for their holidays, but, in the end, they always stay at home.他们总是为假期制订各种计划，但是，末了，他们总是呆在家里。

2.serve as，充当，起……的作用(也可以说 serve for)。

Be in connection with 和…有关系对过去事实做相反的假设从句：一般过去时(were)也就是说，当从句的谓语动词是系动词时，统统用were 的形式，不管主语是第几人称，后面都用were.表达一种虚拟语气连接，结合If you went to the exhibition, you would enjoy it.要是你去了展览，你会非常喜欢它的。
（主句you would enjoy it,是过去将来时，而从句是if you went to the exhibition 是一般过去时， 表达对现在事实做相反假设。
现在事实是，你去不了展览。
假设说要是你去的话你会喜欢的）条件句egIf he is out, I`ll call tomorrow. 要是他不在，我明天再打电话吧。
（主句中，I will call tomorrow, 是一般将来时，从句中，if he is out,是一般现在时）egYou`ll miss the train if you don`t hurry.要是你不抓紧的话，你就会错过火车的。
（也是对将来可能发生的事情的假设， 主句中you will miss the 对现在事实假设或不可能的事情假设If I were in your position, I would act differently. 要是我在你的位置的话，我会处理的不同的。
