I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to study in the United States as an international student from Ukraine when I was fourteen years old, which was eight years ago. I went to a wonderful school, West Catholic High School, for my freshman year.
I remember my firs I day at that school as if it were yesterday. I was very nervous, and I could feel my heartbeat on the tips of my toes. My main fear was that F was not able to express myself because of the language barrier(障碍).I was trying to have as little communication as I possibly could. And I almost succeeded, until we had to introduce ourselves in front of the class.
And the moment the word "international" flew out of my mouth, I was surrounded by thirty people who were asking questions one after another. It turned out to be the opposite of less communication, but it was so much fun.
During the first three months, I,for sure, experienced a little hit of culture shock.
I think Americans are the nicest people 1 have ever met in my entire life. They always smile and say, "Hi,how are you?"
One day, I noticed the students locking at me suspiciously. Finally, my classmate came up to me and whispered "Is it true that you are a princess and that you came to study here so that nobody would recognize you?" At one point, I even had an image of myself wearing a gown (女礼服)and gracefully(优雅地)waving at the crowd.
I think it was a priceless one-year experience! I saw a totally new world,
experienced great culture, met a lot of unbelievable people and improved my language. This trip inspired (激励)me to learn foreign languages. That is one of the reasons why I speak five different languages today.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm Li Hua, a student from Xinhua Middle School. I’m writing to recommend myself as a volunteer of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games to be held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou. Here come my advantages.
To begin with, I love sports and playing sports has been an important part of my life. Besides, I have a good command of English, which makes it easy for me to communicate with foreign guests. What’s more, I am friendly and patient, so I can get
along well with others easily. More importantly, I consider it a good chance to serve our society and develop my ability. I would be very grateful if you could give me a chance.
Looking forward to your reply.
Your sincerely,
Li Hua 附:听力参考材料
