• The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. Its capital city is London, an important global city and financial centre with an urban population of 10,310,000, the fourth-largest in Europe and second-largest in the European Union. • The current monarch—since 6 February 1952—is Queen Elizabeth II.
• The United Kingdom straddles the geographic mid-latitudes between 49 and 61 N. It is on the western seaboard of AfroEurasia, the world's largest land mass. These conditions allow convergence between moist maritime air and dry continental air. In this area, the large temperature variation creates atmospheric instability and this is a major factor that influences the often unsettled weather the country experiences, where many types of weather can be experienced in a single day. • OK, GOT IT NOW??
Commonwealth of Nations
• The Commonwealth of Nations, normally referred to as “The Commonwealth” (英聯邦) and previously known as the British Empire, is an intergovernmental organization of fifty four independent member states. • All but two of these countries were formerly part of the British Empire.(帝國 ) India and Hong Kong. • Every four years, the Commonwealth Games are held, very similar to the Olympic games, and is watched all over the world.
So what is the UK? Great Britain?

HEAD OF STATE
• The UK has a head of state also called the ―Monarch‖ (君主) They are often a King or a Queen, and for the UK it is currently Queen Elizabeth II ( 1952 - ) when the head of state ―abdicates‖ (退位) or dies, then the eldest of his/her children will take the position as head of state, Government and Commonwealth. Her formal residence is Buckingham Palace, but she is more often found at Windsor, Blenheim or Balmoral Castles. It’s a complicated system! So, do you know the Royal family tree and its succession?

• Great Britain is the name of the island northwest of France and east of Ireland that consists of three somewhat autonomous regions: England, Wales and Scotland • Therefore, England is part of Great Britain, which is part of the United Kingdom. England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are not countries but the United Kingdom is.
• Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK that shares a land border with another state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-southwest. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 242,500 square kilometers (93,600 sq. mi), the UK is the 78th-largest sovereign state in the world and the 11th-largest in Europe. It is also the 22nd-most populous country, with an estimated 65.1 million inhabitants.

King Arthur??
• Whilst it would be wonderful to say that this man really existed, he sadly did not…did he? There was a King during this time of Iron Age Britain, name unknown, that defended Britain against the Saxon invaders, and stories and legends grew out of folklore and inaccurate gossip at the time. The tale is one of Romance and Chivalry, and it’s a nice historical story about Britain 1600 years ago.
