D
It was once the cornerstone of polite communication—but it seems that among today’s children letter writing is a dying art.
More than a quarter of seven to 14yearolds have not written a letter in the past year, and one in ten has never written one, according to a new survey. But the study by World Vision to mark its National Letter Writing Day found that in the previous week half of youngsters had written an email or posted a quick message on a social networking site.
“Handwritt en letters are much more personal than electronic communication,”said child education expert Sue Palmer, author of Toxic Childhood.“If children do not write or receive letters they miss out on key
developmental benefits.”
“By going to the trouble of physic ally committing words to paper, the writer shows their investment of time and effort in a relationship. That’s why we tend to hang on to personal letters as keepsakes (纪念品).The effort of writing is a very real one for a child.Painstakingly manoeuvring the pencil across the page, thinking of the best words to convey a message, struggling with spelling and punctuation,it’s an effort worth making, because it’s only through practice that we become truly literate(能读会写的)—and literacy is the hallmark of human civiliz ation.”
BBC broadcaster and former headteacher, Roy Noble, said while he can understand that this generation of children use texts and emails to communicate,he believes you can’t beat an oldfashioned letter for that personal touch.
“It’s easy to see why children are getting out of the habit of writing letters, but there is a certain charm that comes with a letter arriving in the post among the usual brown envelopes and circulars,” he said “I think it is important for children to know how to set out a letter, with the correct terms for personal and professional occasions.”

2.According to Sue Palmer,________.
A.personal letters can be kept as keepsakes

D.literacy plays no role in a relationship

3.What does the underlined word “manoeuvring” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Holding. B.Carving.
C.Moving. D.Breaking.

4.What’s the attitude of Roy Noble towards electronic communication?
A.Understandable. B.Skeptical.

Good Money Habits
It's the right time for a financial plan. Most plans are made in extreme excitement —when you get a pay rise, or after reading a selfhelp book. __1__ Here are some tips that will help you stay the course all year round.
●Take baby steps.
The other day a colleague said, “I have decided to wake up at 6:30 a.m., starting tom orrow.” But she usually woke up at 8:30. Two hours earlier is a difficult task. After a few days I asked her how she was progressing. Her disappointed smile said it all. __2__ If she had considered pushing the clock by 5 minutes every 10 days, she'd reach her 6:30 a.m. goal in eight months. Get the idea? Now simply replace time with savings.
●Tell apart a plan from a habit.
We made plans with a conscious mind, and habits are formed so that eventually they are dealt with by our subconscious mind; and they stick. So don't be in a rush to invest (投资) your money. Go with a systematic investment plan (SIP) of a mutual fund or start a recurring deposit (RD). As human beings, we want to progress. __3__
●Get your family's support.
__4__ If your daughter knows that she can only eat out one weekend a month because you are putting money away for a European trip in 2018, she will be much more
cooperative and feel she is a part of the decision.
●__5__
Link your investment to a particular financial goal; your commitment to it will be stronger. A client decided to open a RD, but she seemed directionless about the investment. Once we suggested that she link it to her daughter's education fund, she immediately increased the amount she was investing. When you name your investment, the goal takes on a greater meaning.
A.Give you goal a meaning.
B.But soon the charm dies down, and so does the enthusiasm.
C.It's a good idea to involve your family in your financial plan.
D.Look at them as a promise to yourself, a promise that needs to be honored.
E.I suggested that she set her alarm for 5 minutes before her regular time.
F.If you know this well in advance, you are less likely to buy an expensive mobile phone on an urge.
G.Once a habit is formed, we want to move ahead and will most probably increase the investment amount withot any encouragement.

4.C 根据本段标题“Get your family's support”和空后的“If your daughter knows”可推知,此处表示“让家人加入到理财计划中是个好主意”,故C项与此处匹配。
