Cary Grant(18 January 1904—29 November 1986) was born in England. He was not only handsome but also witty and attractive.
Grant had an unhappy childhood. Then he became a member of the Bob Pender Stage Troupe and travelled with the group to the United States in 1920.When the troupe returned to England, he decided to stay in the US and continue his stage career.
After some success in light Broadway comedies, he went to Hollywood in 1931, where he started to use the stage name Cary Grant. He became an American citizen(公民) on 26 June 1942.
Alfred Hitchcock, well known for disliking actors, was very fond of Cary Grant, and starred him in four classic Hitchcock films: North by Northwest, Notorious, Suspicion and To Catch a Thief.
In the mid­1950s, Grant set up his own company and produced a number of films. In 1963, he appeared opposite Audrey Hepburn in Charade.
Grant was one of Hollywood's most famous actors for several years. Howard Hawks said that Grant was “so far the best that there isn't anybody to be compared to him”．
Being such a successful actor, Cary Grant never won an Academy Award. In 1970, he was honoured with a special Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
