AI went to the Tsavo National Park in northern Kenya for a film. We set off early for a distant water hole. A huge elephant covered with dry mud, drank calmly and deeply. He might have traveled 50 km to reach the water. He wasn’t going to hurry now. He’d drink a while and rest in the shade, and then drink again or so we thought. What actually happened was that he drank deeply and stepped away. Then he suddenly fell down. Within minutes he was dead.We called animal doctor Jeremiah Poghon immediately. He removed the head of a poisoned arrow from the elephant’s body, and let out over 100 liters of pus (胺)-the result of the elephant’s meeting with a poacher(偷猎者)months before.Today's poacher shoots from a blind. He fires an arrow, covered with poison, into the body of an elephant. If the poacher is lucky, the elephant might die in an hour or two; if not, he might have to follow the elephant for days before it dies. Often the arrow head fails to kill the elephant at once-it doesn't mean the poison won't finally kill the elephant, but it will be a slow death.Living in Tsavo through these times, I could see the results of poaching from time to time. When I think about the death of that elephant, what stays with me is the extraordinary silence aft er the shocking sound of his body hitting the ground. I took some comfort from the knowledge that as the dead body returned to the soil, some animals would benefit-but I couldn't escape the feeling that with the death of such a large animal, the world seemed to be a poorer and emptier place.21. While filming near the water hole, the author and his team ________.A. knew the elephant was injuredB. found the elephant acted violentlyC. tried their best to save the elephantD. thought the elephant was in good condition22. Further examination showed that the dead elephant________.A. had suffered an hour or twoB. was killed by a poisonous needleC. had suffered a lotD. had had a good fight with a poacher23. How does the author feel when thinking about the elephant s death?A. empty.B. comfortable.C. upset.D. relieved.24. Why did the author write the text?A. To introduce African elephant.B. To show the cruelty of poaching.C. To describe his filming experience.D. To ask readers to protect wild animals.BWinter begins in the north on December 22nd. People and animals have been doing what they always do to prepare for the cold months. Squirrels, for example, have been busy gathering nuts from trees. Well, scientists have been busy gathering information about what the squirrels do with the food they collect. They examined differences between red squirrels and gray squirrels in the American state of Indiana. The scientists wanted to know how these differences could affect the growth of black walnut trees. The black walnut is the nut of choice for both kinds of squirrels. The black walnut tree is also a central part of some hardwood forests.Rob Swihart of Purdue University did the study with Jake Goheen, a former Purdue student now at the University of New Mexico. The two researchers estimate that several times as many walnuts grow when gathered by gray squirrels as compared to red squirrels. Gray squirrels and red squirrels do not store nuts and seeds in the same way. Gray squirrels bury nuts one at a time in a number of places. But they seldom remember where they buried every nut. So some nuts remain in the ground. Conditions are right for them to develop and grow in the following spring. Red squirrels, however, store large groups of nuts above ground. Professor Swihart calls “death traps for seeds”.Gray squirrels are native to Indiana. But Professor Swihart says their numbers began to decrease as more forests were cut for agriculture. Red squirrels began to spread through the state during the past century. The researchers say red squirrels are native to forests that stay green all year, unlike walnut trees. They say the cleaning of forest land for agriculture has helped red squirrels invade Indiana. Jake Goheen calls them a sign of an environmental problem more than a cause.25.The study done by Rob Swihart and Jake Goheen is to ________.A. find out the living conditions for squirrelsB. do something to get rid of squirrelsC. learn squirrels’ influence on black walnut treesD. save the forests in the American state of Indiana26.The difference between gray squirrels and red squirrels mainly lies in ________.A. the way they gather the walnutB. the place they store the walnutsC. the number of the nuts they can collectD. the fact that the gray squirrels have a bad memory27.When Professor Swihart says “death traps for seeds”, he actually means that ________.河南教考资源信息网 版权所有·侵权必究A. nuts above the ground will not develop into plantsB. red squirrels eat more nuts than gray squirrelsC. gray squirrels and red squirrels will have severe fightsD. seeds can be traps for other animals in the forest28.According to the passage, which of the following is true?A. Gray squirrels do more harm to the forest than red squirrels.B. Red squirrels and gray squirrels have helped the spread of walnut trees.C. The cleaning of forest land benefits gray squirrels directly.D. Human beings should bear some responsibility for the decreasing number of graysquirrels.CLa Gomera is the only place in the world that has a whistle language. We do not know how and why it began because we do not know the complete history of the island. But we can certainly imagine the reasons for the beginning of the whistle language. There are many deep valleys on the island. A person on one side of a valley can not easily shout to a person on the other side. But he can whistle and be heard. Some of the best whistlers can be heard from four miles away and the record is seven miles. The people who live on the island usually have good teeth, and this helps them to whistle well. They must also have good ears so that they can hear other whistlers. We can understand why the whistle language continues. It is very useful on the island, and quite easy to learn. When somebody is hurt or ill, the whistle language takes the place of telephone. If the sick person is quite far away from the town, people pass the message from one to another. A boy guarding cattle on a hillside whistles to a man fishing from his boat. The last one is able to describe the trouble fully and exactly to the doctor in town. People help one another in the same way when a car breaks down or a cow is lost. The whistle language is hundreds of years old, and probably it will continue to live on for hundreds of years more. Radio and TV often kill the special ways of s peaking in different parts of a country. But on La Gomera you are nobody if you cannot whistle. Perhaps soon after TV arrives on the island, people there will be whistling the news and other facts and opinions.29. If a person on La Gomera is ill, ______.A. the whistle language will help pass the message to the doctorB. people will take him to town by carriageC. his family will take him to the hospitalD. others will phone the doctor in town30. 2015年高中毕业年级第一次质量预测第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)AKatie was in big trouble. She was such a sweet kid; a third-grade teacher always dreamed of having a classroom filled with Katies; she was never ever a discipline(纪律) problem. I just couldn’t imagine why she had made her parents so angry. It seemed that Katie had been running up sizable charges in the lunchroom. Her parents explained that Katie brought a great homemade lunch each day, and there was no reason for her to buy school lunch. They assumed a sit-down with Katie would solve the problem, but failed. So they asked me to help them get to the bottom of this situation. So the next day, I asked Katie to my office. "Why are you charging lunches, Katie? What happened to your homemade lunch?" I asked. "I lose it," she responded. I leaned back in my chair and said, "I don't believe you, Katie. " She didn't care. "Is someone stealing your lunch, Katie?" I took a new track. "No. I just lose it," she said. Well, there was nothing else I could do.The problem was still unsolved the next week when I noticed a boy who was new to the school sitting alone at a lunch table. He always looked sad. I thought I would go and sit with him for a while. As I walked towards him, I noticed the lunch bag on the table. The name on the bag said "Katie".Now I understood and I talked to Katie. It seemed that the new boy never brought a lunch, and he wouldn't go to the lunch line for a free lunch. He had told Katie his secret and asked her not to tell anyone that his parents wanted him to get a free lunch at school. Katie asked me not to tell her parents, but I drove to her house that evening after I was sure that she was in bed. I had never seen parents so proud of their child. Katie didn't care that her parents and teacher were disappointed in her. But she cared about a little boy who was hungry and scared.Katie still buys lunch every day at school. And every day, as she heads out of the door, her mom hands her a delicious homemade lunch.21. What did the author think of Katie?A. She performed well at school.B. She was a girl filled with love.C. She often made trouble at school.D. She used to be a discipline problem.22. Why did Katie eat school lunch instead of her homemade lunch every day?A. She lost her homemade lunch.B. She had her homemade lunch stolen.C. She didn't like the taste of her homemade lunch.D. She gave her homemade lunch to a hungry boy.23. What was Katie's parents' reaction to the truth about the lunch?A. They were very angry.B. They were proud of Katie.C. They were disappointed.D. They were rather upset.24. What can we learn from the passage?A. Katie was informed that her parents had known her secret.B. Katie told the author the truth of her lunch during their first talk.C. Katie's secret of lunch was discovered by the author by accident.D. Katie stopped buying lunch at school after her secret was discovered.BI log onto a computer at the doctor's office to say I have arrived and then wait until a voice calls me into the examination room. There, a robotic nurse directs me onto a device and then takes my blood pressure. Some time later, in steps the doctor, who is also a robot. He notes down my symptoms and gives me a prescription (处方). I pay for my visit using a credit card machine and return home without having met another human being. When I call my dentist's office and actually get a human being on the line, I am thrilled. And when I see the introduction of yet more self-service checkout stations at the grocery store, I feel like shouting, "When it comes to cashiers, make mine human, please!"After all, human cashiers sometimes give you a store coupon (优惠券) for items you are buying. Even more than that, real-life cashiers often take an interest in particularly cute children, which can brighten a young mother's day. A cashier may also show compassion (同情)for an elderly person struggling to get that last penny out of her purse. What technological device would do any of this? I don't want to go back to the Stone Age, but I'm also worried about a world run by machines. Sometimes when you're chatting with someone, you discover things you need to know. Maybe a receptionist needs prayers said for a sick child. Maybe a salesperson can offer a bit of encouragement to a customer who is feeling tired.Machines can be efficient and cost-effective and they often get the job done just fine. But they lack an element so important to everyday life.Call it the spirit, the soul or the heart. It is something no machine will ever have. It is being human that prompts us to smile at others, which may be what they need at that moment.25. What's the author's purpose in writing the first two paragraphs?A. To indicate high technology can make our future life very easy.B. To describe a possible future scene where robots take control of our life.C. To warn readers of the possible dangers of robotic nurses and doctors.D. To predict how technology can affect the way we see a doctoring the future.26. Why does the author prefer being served by humans rather than by robots?A. Robots are indifferent and emotionless.B. Robots can't provide efficient services.C. Robots don't offer to give store coupons.D. Robots are unable to do a job as well as humans.27. What's the author's attitude towards machines?A. He wishes one day they would come to life.B. He is absolutely against their existence in his life.C. He doesn't like they get involved in his life too much.D. He is afraid they would take the place of human beings.CFoxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population. Hunting consists of running after a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox, the kill it or a hunter shoots it.People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport. They wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow strict rules of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly are expensive, so most hunters are wealthy. It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox-hunting. But over the last couple of decades the number of people who are against fox-hunting, because they think it is brutal(残暴的), has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of conflict between hunters and hunt opponents (阻止者). Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly opponents discourage the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.Noisy conflicts between hunters and opponents have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as running after foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox-hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport. A Labour Party member ofParliament(英国议会), Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.28. Wealthy people in Britain have been hunting foxes to ______.A. benefit the farmersB. get entertainmentC. show off their wealthD. limit the fox population29. The opponents of fox-hunting often discourage the game by ______.A. using violenceB. taking legal actionC. seeking help from farmersD. confusing the fox hunters30. A new law may be passed by the British Parliament to ______.A. protect wild animals like foxesB. control fox-hunting on a large scaleC. prohibit farmers from hunting foxesD. standardize the behavior of fox-hunting31. What can be inferred from this passage?A. Limiting the fox population is unnecessary at all.B. Killing foxes with poison is not allowed by the law.C. Hunting foxes with dogs is considered cruel and violent.D. Fox-hunting causes conflicts between hunters and farmers.D"A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smart phone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website" is the definition of "selfie" in the Oxford English Dictionary. In fact, it wasn't even in the dictionary until August of last year. It earned its place there because people are now so obsessed with (对……痴迷) selfies ─ we take them when we try on a new hat, play with our pets or when we meet a friend whom we haven't seen in a while. But is there any scientific explanation for this obsession? Well, you should probably ask James Kilner, a neuroscientist(神经系统科学家) at University College London.Through our lifetime we become experts at recognizing and interpreting otherpeople's faces and facial expressions. In contrast, according to Kilner, we have a very poor understanding of our own faces since we have little experience of looking at them ─ we just feel them most of the time. This has been proved in previous studies, according to the BBC.Kilner found that most people chose the more attractive picture. This suggests that we tend to think of ourselves as better-looking than we actually are. To further test how we actually perceive our own faces, Kilner carried out another study. He showed people different versions of their own portrait ─ the original, one that had been edited to look less attractive and one that was made more attractive ─ and asked them to pick the version which they thought looked most like them. They chose the more attractive version. But what does it say about settles? Well, isn't that obvious? Selfies give us the power to create a photograph ─ by taking it from various angles, with different poses, using filters (滤色镜) and so on ─ that better ma tches ourexpectations with our actual faces. "You suddenly have control in a way that you don't have in non-virtual(非虚拟的) interactions," Kilner told the Canada-based CTV News. Selfies allow you "to keep taking pictures until you manage to take one you're happy with" , he explained.32. What is the passage mainly about?A. The definition and fun of taking selfies.B. A study of why people love taking selfies.C. How taking selfies influences people's daily lives.D. How to interpret people's facial expressions in their selfies.33. The underlined word "perceive" in Paragraph 5 can be replaced by "______".A. interpretB. beautifyC. chooseD. explain34. What did Kilner discover from his researches?A. People interpret others' facial expressions worse than their own.B. People tend to spend more time looking at their faces than at others'.C. Part I Reading Comprehension (30%) Directions: There are three passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C, and D. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through center. Passage 1 Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage: After a busy day of work and play, the body needs to rest. Sleep is necessary for good health. During this time, the body recovers from the activities of the previous day. (76) The rest that you get while sleeping enables your body to prepare itself for the next day. There are four levels of sleep, each being a little deeper than the one before. As you sleep, your muscles relax little by little. Your heart beats more slowly, and your brain slows down. After you reach the fourth level, your body shifts back and forth from one level of sleep to the other. Although your mind slows down, from time to time you will dream. Scientists who study sleep state that when dreaming occurs, your eyeballs begin to move more quickly (although your eyelids are closed). This stage of sleep is called REM, which stands for rapid eye movement. (77)If you have trouble falling asleep, some people recommend breathing very slowly and very deeply. Other people believe that drinking warm milk will help make you drowsy. There is also an old suggestion that counting sheep will put you to sleep! 1. A good title for this passage is —— .A. SleepB. Good HealthC. DreamsD. Work and Rest 2. The word drowsy in the last paragraph means —— .A. sickB. stand upC. asleepD. a little sleepy 3. This passage suggests that not getting enough sleep might make you ——.A. dream more oftenB. have poor healthC. nervousD. breathe quickly 4. During REM,—— .A. your eyes move quicklyB. you are restlessC. you dreamD. both A and B 5. The average number of hours of sleep that an adult needs is—— .A. approximately six hoursB. about eight hoursC. around ten hoursD. not stated here Passage 2 Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage: Obviously television has both advantages and disadvantages. (78)In the first place, television is not only a convenient source of entertainment, but also a comparatively cheap one. With a TV set in the family people don't have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre, the cinema, or the opera. All they have to do is to push a button or turn a knob, and they can see plays, films, operas and shows of every kind. Some people, however, think that this is where the danger lies. The television viewers need to nothing. He does not even have to use his legs if he has a remote control. He makes no choice and exercises, no judgment. He is completely passive and has everything presented to him without any effort on his part. Television, it is often said, keeps one informed about current events and the latest developments in science and politics. The most distant countries and the strangest customs are brought right into one's sitting room. It could be argued that the radio performs this service as well; but on television everything is much more living, much more real. Yet here again there is a danger. The television screen itself has a terrible, almost physical charm for us. (79)We get so used to looking at themovements on it, so dependent on its pictures, that it begins to control our lives. People are often heard to say that their television sets have broken down and that they have suddenly found that they have far more time to do things and that they have actually begun to talk to each other again. It makes one think, doesn't it? There are any other arguments for and against television. We must realize that television itself is neither good nor bad. It is the uses that it is put to that determine its value to society. 6. What is the major function of paragraph 1? A. To arouse the reader's concern B. To introduce the theme of the whole passage C. To summarize the whole passage D. To sate the primary uses of TV 7. Television, as a source of entertainment, is .A. not very convenientB. very expensiveC. quite dangerousD. relatively cheap 8. Why are some people against TV? A. Because TV programs are not interesting B. Because TV viewers are totally passive C. Because TV prices are very high. D. Because TV has both advantages and disadvantages 9. One of the most obvious advantages of TV is that .A. it keeps up informedB. it is very cheapC. it enables us to have a restD. it controls our lives 10. According to the passage, whether TV is good or not depends on .A. its qualityB. people's attitude towards itC. how we use itD. when we use it Passage 3 Questions 11 to 15 are based on the following passage: Too often young people get themselves employed quite by accident, not knowing what lies in the way of opportunity for promotion, happiness and security. As a result, they are employed doing jobs that afford them little or no satisfaction. (80)Our school leavers face so much competition that they seldom care that they do as long as they can earn a living. Some stay long at a job and learn to like it; others quit form one to another looking for something to suit them. The young graduates who leave the university look for jobs that offer a salary up to their expectation. Very few go out into the world knowing exactly what they want and realizing their own abilities. The reason behind all this confusion is that there never has been a proper vocational guidance in our educational institution. Nearly all grope (摸索) in the dark and their chief concern when they look for a job is to ask what salary is like. They never bother to think whether they are suited for the job or, even more important, whether the job suits them. Having a job is more than merely providing yourself and your dependants with daily bread and some money for leisure and entertainment. It sets a pattern of life and, in many ways, determines social status in life, selection of friends, leisure and interest. In choosing a career you should first consider the type of work which will suit your interest. Nothing is more pathetic than taking on a job in which you have no interest, for it will not only discourage your desire to succeed in life but also ruin your talents and ultimately make you an emotional wreck (受到严重伤害的⼈) and a bitter person. 11. The reason why some people are unlikely to succeed in life is that they .A. have ruined their talentsB. have taken on an unsuitable jobC. think of nothing but their salaryD. are not aware of their own potential 12. The difficulty in choosing a suitable job lies mainly in that . A. much competition has to be faced B. many employees have no working experience C. the young people only care about how much they can earn D. schools fail to offer students appropriate vocational guidance 13. Which of the following statements is most important according to the passage? A. Your job must suit your interest. B. Your job must set a pattern of life. C. Your job must offer you a high salary. D. Your job must not ruin your talents. 14. The best title for this passage would be .A. What Can A Good Job Offer.B. Earning A LivingC. Correct Attitude On Job-huntingD. How To Choose A Job 15. The word "pathetic" in Paragraph 2 most probably means .A. splendidB. miserableC. disgustedD. touching Part Ⅱ Vocabulary and Structure (30%) Directions: In this part there are 30 incomplete sentences. Dear Sir or Madam, I’m glad to know you’re going to hold a summer camp from July 1st to 7th during the vacation. I have a great interest in it. There’re so many wonderful activities, such as experiencing cooking culture, visiting world-famous universities, attending foreign classes, learning family gardening, visiting places of interest and so on, which I think are all very useful to us high school students. After my careful consideration, I’ve decided to apply to learn family gardening. I want to learn how to grow flowers and plants well. We have a garden, where my parents grow various vegetables, flowers and plants. With the knowledge I learn, I hope I can help them with some work in the garden and manage it better. Thanks for reading my application. I hope I’ll have a chance to take part in the activity. I’m looking forward to your early reply. Yours sincerely, Li Hua

河南省郑州市2015届高三下学期三月份模拟考试英语试题第一卷(共三部分,115分)第一部分:听力(略)第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIn April 2014, the world’s oldest known message in a bottle was discovered floating in the Baltic Sea. It had spent 101years lost in the ocean! The me ssage was finally sent to the author’s granddaughter.A German fisherman named Konrad Fischer found the brown bottle near Kiel, Germany. He said he nearly threw the bottle back into the water after pulling it out of a fishing net. Then he noticed something inside. The bottle in good condition contained a Danish postcard with two German stamps, dated May 17, 1913. Although dampness had made most of the writing illegible(字迹模糊的), the readable part of the message asked whoever found it to return it to an address in Berlin. It even contained two stamps to pay for postage. From the address, researchers found that the postcard was written by a man named Richard Platz, who was 20 years old when he wrote the message. While he was hiking on the Baltic coast with a nature appreciation group, he threw the bottle into the sea. Then the researcher began a research for any living relatives of his. Sure enough, they were able to find his 62-year-old grandfather, Angela Erdmann, who still lives in Berlin."It was almost unbelievable," Erdmann said upon being presented with her grandfather's bottle and message, as quoted in The Local. "That was a pretty moving moment. Tears rolled down my face."Erdmann never knew her grandfather, who died in 1946, but says that the discovery of the bottle has made her want to learn more about him.The bottle remained on display at the International Maritime Museum Hamburg until May 1. After that, the researchers examined the postcard and tried to figure out the meaning of the rest ofthe message.Previously, the oldest message found in a bottle spent nearly 98 years at sea and was discovered in April , according to Guinness World Records.21.When Konrad picked up the bottle from the sea, __________.A. he thought it would bring him good luck.B. he noticed the postcard inside immediately.C. he decided to uncover the secret of the bottle.D. he wanted to throw it back into the sea at first. Why did Richard Platz throw the bottle with the message into the sea?A. She worried particularly about the lack of jobs and cultural differences and the chance that I would face racism.Despite these concerns, I came to New Zealand in July 2009. I have found the place and the people very nice and supportive. Then he offered to take me to Royal Oak to search for a job.I was a little surprised, but had a good feeling about him, so I went along. Along the way ,I realized that I had run out of resumes(简历). He also gave me tips on dressing and speaking and added that I should give him a call if I ever needed anything. I handed out my resume and went home feeling very satisfied. Now, let’s take a look at some of the inventions.Super bananaAustralian biogeneticist(生物遗传学家) James Dale visited Uganda, a poor African country, in the early 2000s, where he found that 15-30 percent of children under 5 were at risk of going blind because they did not get enough Vitamin A. Dale also learned that people there love bananas. They eat three to 11 bananas a day. So he came up with the idea to plant bananas containing added nutrition in order to improve Ug andans’ health. With the help of Bill Gates’ foundation, Dale developed the “super banana”. He added a gene to the fruit, making it rich in Vitamin A.Coaching basketballBasketball is popular worldwide, partly because you only need a hoop(篮筐) and a ball to play the game. But this simple game has experienced a technology makeover this year with the development of a smart-sensor basketball. The ball, called the 94Fifty Basketball, has nine sensors inside. They can tell you anything from how fast you are going to how accurate your shot angles are. With a Bluetooth chip inside, the basketball can connect to your smartphone and tell you in the voice of a coach to “sn ap your wrist (传旋转球)”, or“go faster”, depending on the data. The HovercraftThanks to the California-based company Hendo, flying past your friends on a floating board could soon become a reality. The Hovercraft has four small engines. These create a special magnetic field which produce enough force to lift the board off the ground. At the moment, the hoverboard(悬浮滑板) can only float an inch off the ground for 15 minutes and must fly over a metal material. It’s expensive too, at $10,000 (61,810 yuan), but the company hopes that one day the technology could be used.Wireless electricityMost of us could not bear to live without wireless Internet. We use it every day for everything from our phones to our cars. But one company wants to go a step further, by combining wireless technology with electricity. That’s right, no more tangled (缠绕的) wires and no more having to sit and hold your cell phone near a power socket(插座) in the corner of the room. WiTricity, a US company, has invented technology that can power objects up to 2.4 meters away. It uses a special plug-in coil (线圈) that creates a magnetic field!28. Which of the following statements would James Dale agree with?A. Children in Uganda should eat fewer bananas.B. Vitamin A is largely found in fruits like bananas.C. Super bananas are definitely a safe biological product.D. people’s eating habits can be used to develop new food.29. What is the biggest advantage of the 94Fifty Basketball?A. The sensors hidden inside can help players run faster in a game.B. It can help players to improve their shooting and ball handling skills.C. It allows players to connect to their smartphones while playing basketball.D. The bluetooth chip inside allows its users to listen to music while playing basketball.30. What can we learn about the Hovercraft from the text?A. It enables its users to float off the ground freely.B. It can work on many different kinds of surfaces.C. It still needs to improve its power and efficiency.D. It is an affordable means of transport for a family.31. What do the hovercraft and wireless electricity have in common according to the text?.A. They create magnetic fields to produce power.B. They apply technologies to many things in life.C. They apply technologies which can produce electricity.D. They use wireless technology to improve their products.D"Beauty is only skin deep." This expression means that beauty is only a temporary surface quality. And some beauty products can cause lasting damage that goes far below the surface of theskin. In the United States, many people use sunlight and non-natural light to darken their skin. Health experts advise against what is called "tanning" because of its links to skin cancer. In the African country of Senegal(塞内加尔), some women take health risks trying to do just the opposite. An average beauty supply shop in Dakar has many kinds of skin-lightening creams and soaps. The World Health Organization says that 25 percent of Senegalese women use skin-lightening products on a usual basis. These products can contain chemicals such as mercury(汞), hydroquinone(对苯二酚) , etc. These are dangerous ingredients that can cause cancer and possibly other physical damage to the skin. They can actually burn the eyes and skin.Shop worker Adama Diagne advises her visitors to avoid the stronger products that promise fast results. She uses a cream that is made from carrots and not the strong chemical, hydroquinone. She says that it is a personal choice and that no one pressures her. Some women want to be black every day, but for her, she likes to be a shade of brown.Women in Senegal say they lighten their skin for the same reason that women all over the world make changes to their appearance. They say they want to look beautiful, to find a husband, or to stand out in a crowd or simply to look great for a special event. This thinking troubles Senegalese filmmaker Khardiata Pouye Sall. So, she made "This Color That Bothers Me," a film about the subject of skin lightening. She said,"I used the most shocking images so that women would see the dangers. It is hard to understand why a woman says that dark skin is not beautiful. It is in their heads. They want to please a man, to be loved. Or they want to please society, to succeed."Ms. Sall says that the government needs to better control the marketing and sale of skin lightening products. But she adds that education is the best way to persuade people against using them.32.The underlined parts “the opposite” in Paragraph 2 means some Senegalese women _______.A. use sunlight to darken their skinB. try creams to prevent skin cancer.C. use products to lighten their skinD. take health risks to become beautiful33.According to Adama Diagne, women shouldn’t believe __________.A. beauty is just a personal choiceB. a cream from carrots is healthierC.it is beautiful to be black every dayD. a product can make you beautiful quickly34.We can infer that women in Senegal_________.A. attract attention with shocking imagesB. don’t consider dark skin to be beautifulC. find it hard to understand the true beautyD. put beauty in their first place in their heads.35.What is Sall’s attitude towards skin-lightening products?A. 2014-2015学年河南省郑州市高三下学期三月份模拟考试英语试卷第一卷(共三部分,115分)第一部分:听力(略)第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIn April 2014, the world‟s oldest known message in a bottle was discovered floating in the Baltic Sea. It had spent 101years lost in the oce an! The message was finally sent to the author‟s granddaughter.A German fisherman named Konrad Fischer found the brown bottle near Kiel, Germany. After that, the researchers examined the postcard and tried to figure out the meaning of the rest of the message.Previously, the oldest message found in a bottle spent nearly 98 years at sea and was discovered in April 2012, according to Guinness World Records.【文章解读】本文是一篇新闻报道。
