Are you an “I person” or an “E person”? These two personality labels in particular are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI. All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results in total. “I” and “E” refer to “introv erted” and “extroverted” respectively.
Even if someone is typically quiet, many online discussions suggest that an “I” person can still be outgoing at times. For example, when an introverted person is with a group of introverted friends, they might become more social like an “E” person.
According to psychologists, this idea of temporarily switching personalities is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in specific situations. “Human beings want to feel they belong, and they might become people - pleasers to do so,” wrote the MasterClass website.
Using the MBTI result to identify and describe someone’s personality seems fun. However, I went too far at one time. My sister was excitedly making a day - to - day travel plan when I remembered from an article that “P people” don’t like to make or stick to plans, so I said to her, “You don’t seem like a ‘P person’.” “Why?” She asked
back. “Since when do I need to follow what my personality test tells me to do?” It was then that I realized I’d taken the result too seriously.
The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun ice-breaker question when meeting new friends. And that’s all it is — for fun. Knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t define who you are.
24. In which of the following situations an “I” person may perform more sociably?
A. Having a conversation with an “E” person.
B. Wanting to feel someone’s sense of belonging.
C. Taking the personality test and accepting its result.
D. Staying with some friends with similar personalities.
25. What does the underlined word “masking” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Pleasing.
B. Escaping.
C. Pretending.
D. Controlling.
26. What does the author want to tell us by the example in paragraph 4?
A. The MBTI result is of great help to identify a person.
B. A “P” person is unwilling to make or stick to plans.
C. People need to follow the advice of the MBTI test.
D. Don’t take the MBTI result too seriously all the time.
27. What does the author think of the MBTI personality test?
A. It’s a good choice for a conversation starter.
B. It’s a must to quickly get to know a new friend.
C. It’s a perfect way to show your true personality.
D. It’s an effective means of predicting people’s behavior.
C
Artificial intelligence (AI)is the latest technology topic thanks to the boom(迅速发展)of ChatGPT. The AI - powered chatbot, created by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, has both impressed and shocked people with its ability to answer questions, write essays and even argue legal cases. Its capabilities have also put another topic at the forefront of people’s minds: if, how and when AI might impact their jobs.
The short answer to the question of whether AI will replace some jobs is a big, fat “yes”. Certain roles are more harmed by this than others — especially ones that are highly repetitive or based on very specific instructions or rules that lay out what needs to be done. Tasks that change often and therefore require things like adaptability and changing skills are harder for technology to replace. Jobs with a strong human element — such as being a therapist(治疗专家)— are especially unlikely to be taken over.
The concerns aren’t surprising, says Steve Chase, consulting leader at KPMG U. S. “As with most technological advancements, an initial fear of job loss and displacement among workers is natural.” Similar disruption(混乱)has happened before: for example, the spread of computers, or more advanced and specialized machines in factories. History shows if jobs are lost to new technology, other roles have been created in their place.
“I think at the moment we are quite far from ‘real AI’ in the sense that all the models that we have are about predicting the right response given a set of data. Much of what Al does is to combine existing knowledge with a
specific goal in mind,” Dimitris Papanikolaou, a professor of finance, says. “This is quite far from creating new knowledge.”
People working alongside AI, rather than being replaced by it, is therefore a more likely scene for now. AI allows organizations to reshape roles in a way that minimizes time spent on repetitive tasks and maximizes strategic decision - making. So they will likely become a bigger part of everyday working life — potentially sooner rather than later.
28. Who is most likely to be replaced by AI?
A. Architectural designers.
B. Data entry professionals.
C. Mental health therapists.
D. Skilled businessman.
29. Why are computers mentioned in paragraph 3?
A. To praise their spread speed.
B. To emphasize their impact on AI.
C. To highlight their importance.
D. To explain their similarity to Al.
30. What does Papanikolaou think of AI?
A. It is efficient in reaching goals.
B. It provides useless knowledge.
C. It is limited in certain ways.
D. It helps businesses minimize employee numbers.
31. Which can be the most suitable title for the text?
A. A guide to chatbot development
B. The future of intelligent machines
C. How will AI influence your career?
D. When can AI meet customer demand?
D
Forget about “military - style travel” during which people tend to visit as many places as possible in the least amount of time. A more relaxing and leisurely alternative, such as “Citywalk”, is becoming the norm among urban youngsters.
Unlike military-style travel, Citywalk is about wandering around a city on foot, feeling the atmosphere and finding unusual things that even a resident of the city might not have noticed before. It can be a special event where people start a journey led by tour guides or simply explore the streets.
Such walks generally avoid famous scenic spots and shopping centers, and take you to places where you can have real interactions with the local people, eat at small but authentic restaurants, and gain a deeper understanding of the city’s history and culture.
Citywalkers have shared their carefully planned routes on social media platforms, generating thousands of followers. Their posts usually include the time of the walk, and interesting places and restaurants along the way. Some posts are more like a food tour.
Nan Xi, who recently moved from Beijing to Shanghai, said “I think Shanghai is a city perfect for Citywalk. There are big trees along the streets and shops selling different products, which is ideal for couples and friends to walk together and take photos.” After several Citywalk experiences, she signed up for a two - and - a - half - hour Citywalk priced at 88 yuan per person. A tour guide told the history of the buildings and streets along the way. “If it were me walking alone, I would simply find the streets artistic, but the tour that day helped me gain a better
understanding of how Western culture blends in with(融入)the local culture in Shanghai,” she said. Another surprising benefit of the walk was that she has made friends with two of her fellow walkers,
Lin Yi, a manager for an online platform for self - guided tours, thought Citywalk can help travelers learn about local culture and live as local people do, feeling the vibes of a city. “People who participate in Citywalks usually have similar tastes, and can have in - depth discussions with each other,” he said.
32. What is the main difference between military - style travel and Citywalk?
A. The transport.
B. The cost.
C. The purpose.
D. The equipment.
33. Why does Nan Xi think Shanghai is a city perfect for Citywalk?
A. Because it is a perfect place to run shops.
B. Because it provides great experiences in many ways.
C. Because there are great things to do at weekends.
D. Because ideal couples and friends often gather there.
34. What can be inferred from Nan Xi’s two - and - a - half - hour Citywalk?
A. She thought it well worth a try.
B. She went on the tour without company.
C. She wouldn’t have found the artistic streets by herself.
D. She knew how Western culture differed from the local culture in Shanghai.
35. What is the main idea of the article?
A. Citywalk is a new trend in urban tourism.
B. Citywalk can help travelers make new friends.
C. Military-style travel is becoming more popular.
D. Military-style travel has an advantage over Citywalk.

M: Alice, ⑭what time is Mr Black’s fight due to arrive at Boston Airport?
W: Around 2 pm, sir. ⑭Will you go with the company car to meet him?
M: ⑭Yes. So I’d better leave here no later than now. How about the hotel for Mr Black and his party?
W: I booked the rooms for them last week and checked again yesterday to make sure everything is ready.
M: ⑮Including the welcome room for tonight’s party?
W: ⑮That’s right. I have communicated with the manager and he promised me that everything would be exactly as what we had requested.
M: Excellent. I want everything to be the best.
W: I’m sure it will be. That manager has never let us down yet.
M: We want to make a good impression. ⑯Not just to be sure to make the business deal a success, but to treat them in return for the wonderful treatment we received from them in London last year.

W: Hello, Tom. This is Amy here. I’d like to share with you some of my problems and get them resolved.
I’m having some trouble with chemistry this year. The teacher thinks we’ re so smart that we ought to have no trouble learning it. But I ⑰find the textbook confusing and then I get discouraged. Well, ⑱so me of my friends and I gathered together and formed a study group. This learning strategy seems to work OK most of the time. The only problem is that sometimes one of my friends will come to the study group unprepared. He’ll forget his notes or he won’t have read the book in advance. I guess those who don’t prepare are going to havea hard time on the final exam.
⑲And also I’m trying to learn the new computer program at school. It’s pretty hard. ⑳Most of the other kids have already picked it up, but I haven’t. I borrow the book and take it home to read, but it doesn’t seem to help. There is simply too much information for me to remember. I’m not sure exactly what to do next, Could you give me some advice on how to learn computer program?。
