2023版新教材高考英语一轮总复习Unit4单元主题训练新人教版选择性必修第一册(含答案)

2023版新教材高考英语一轮总复习:UNIT 4 单元主题训练Ⅰ.阅读理解2022·广州质检When my 8-month-old cries, I ask him if he's hungry, or wet or just needs a hug.“Babububuu,” he says. What I need is a baby cry translator. That's just what a team of researchers say they've developed.“Experienced nurses or pediatricians (儿科医师) can identify why baby is crying because they have experience,”says Lichuan Liu, a professor of electrical engineering at Northern Illinois University, who conducted the research. “We talked to them, and they mentioned that based on the cry's sound there're some clues (线索).”So Liu set out to identify the features of cries that can help mark them as expressions of pain or discomfort. These features include differences in pitch (音高) and frequency. The team then developed an algorithm (算法) based on automatic speech recognition to detect and identify these features. This “cry language recognition algorithm” was trained on recordings of baby cries taken from a hospital. It uses compressed sensing, a process that reconstructs a signal based on incomplete data. It can identify a baby's cry against a background of, say, adult speech or loud television sounds. By classifying different cry features, like pitch, the algorithm can suggest whether the cry is due to sickness or pain, and identify the degree of urgency. The team had experienced pediatric care providers assess forty-eight baby cry recordings for probable cause of crying — hunger, tiredness, etc. They then compared these to the algorithm's assessments. The algorithm agreed with the humans 70% of the time. Generally, so-called “uncommon cry signals”— signs of pain or sickness — are high-pitched and very loud compared to ordinary crying.Liu and her team continue to train the technology for greater accuracy. They also plan to add more features, like the ability to identify and classify movement and facial expressions. This could help give a more detailed reading of baby's emotional (情感的) and physical state. They also hope to begin human trials in the near future.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

UNIT 4 单元主题训练Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2022·佛山二模)The future of space exploration may depend on an art form from the past: origami (折纸艺术), the ancient art of paper folding.Researchers from Washington State University (WSU), US, have used origami to possibly solve the problem of storing and moving fuel to rocket engines, a key challenge in space travel, according to Newswise. They've developed a foldable plastic fuel “bladder (囊状物)” resistant to super cold temperatures, which could be used to store and pump fuel in spacecrafts of the future.Their findings have recently been published in the journal Cryogenics.“Folks have been trying to make bags for rocket fuel for a long time,” said Jake Leachman, one of the lead researchers.“We currently don't do large, long-duration trips because we can't store fuel long enough in space.”Meanwhile, NASA is also looking to paper folding to help observe distant planets. The agency is currently developing Starshade, a foldable, sunflower-shaped piece of hardware that would help block starlight and enable telescopes to view distant objects more clearly in space.“A huge part of my job is looking at something on paper and asking, ‘Can we fly this?’” Manan Arya, a technologist in California, said.“Once I realized this is how you fold spacecraft structures, I became interested in origami.I realized I was good at it and enjoyed it.Now, I fold constantly.”Using origami for space purposes isn't new, however.Solar arrays (太阳能阵列), experimental wings for space shuttle programs and an inflatable (可充气的) satellite were also inspired by origami in both past and present space projects.“With most origami, the magic comes from the folding,” Robert Salazar, who helped design the Starshade and now works on the Transformers project, said in a statement.“There are so many patterns to still be explored.”语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

All2)阅读理解AA survey by the American Psychological Association shows that one in ten adults reads online news at least once an hour. A lot has been written about the mental(心理的) health influence from news addiction, and in particular from reading negative reports. Just like junk food, “junk” news can be bad for our health. In recent years, things have been getting increasingly more negative. A study of the content of New Zealand’s largest newspaper showed that while in 1973 the average number of stories about death on the front page was 0.75, by 2013 it was 4.1(and no, there weren’t five times more people dying). What’s more, online news, and the stories we read on mobile phones in particular, tend to be even more negative than print. A 2019 study of 50 U.S. newspapers showed that mobile versions(版本) of newspapers report three times more stories about disasters and accidents than paper ones.Such negative reports lead people to believe that things are worse than they really are. They can lead to stress, worry and lower spirits.Experiments also suggest that loneliness and poor relationships have been connected with reading negative reports. After reading negative reports, people are less likely to help others. Even worse, when we check news on smart phones, we may “phub” our loved ones, which leads to lower relationship satisfaction.Negative reports attract our attention far more than positive ones. That’s a global happening. I hope, however, that if we realize that negative news is spoiling our moods, we might all be more willing to change.16. Why is “junk food” mentioned in the first paragraph?A. To entertain readers.B. To introduce the topic.C. To make an advertisement.D. To keep readers away from it.17. What can we learn about the study in Paragraph 2?A. The death rate in New Zealand is very high.B. Print newspapers have become less popular.C. Stories about death have become less popular.D. Negative reporting has been increasing over years.18. What may negative reports lead people to do?A. Live a hopeful life.B. Become more careful.C. Become less likely to help others.D. Pay more attention to their physical health.19. What does the underlined word “phub” in Paragraph 5 mean?A. IgnoreB. HateC. Laugh atD. Care about20. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. A Survey on News Reading HabitsB. Negative Effects of Mobile PhonesC. Is Online News Better Than Print?D. Is Junk News a Danger to Health?BUnlike humans who enter a state of relatively complete unconsciousness(无意识) while sleeping, birds can more carefully control their sleep. Birds often sleep with one eye open, only half their brain resting at the same time. The other half of the brain is awake, able to note danger if needed. While the exact way in which birds control their sleep patterns(模式) has not been well studied, it has been shown that the safer a bird feels when sleeping, the more likely it is to sleep deeper. If the situation is more uncertain, however, the bird will sleep more lightly.Sleeping together is another defensive method that many birds use. By living together, some species can create a nighttime place where thousands of individuals sleep. As a result, there are more birds to notice their enemies’ attack, giving each individual bird a greater chance of survival. In winter, many birds, particularly small birds, live together to share body heat and survive lower nighttime temperatures. When birds sleep, they bury weak body parts in their feathers(羽毛). A bird’s feathers create air pockets that help it keep warm, and by placing feet or the bill(喙) into the feathers, less body heat is lost. When a bird’s bill is buried deeply in its feathers, it is also able to breathe air warmed by its own body heat. There is little data about how long birds sleep at a time, but studies show that birds may sleep longer during longer nights. This may be because birds are not able to search for food or take part in other activities without enough light and so sleeping is the next natural item on their to-do lists. Birds are able to sleep for a short time during the day, however, and can also sleep longer whenever they are in a safe place.21. How can birds control their sleep?A. By opening both of the eyes.B. By ignoring danger frequently.C. By entering a dream completely.D. By keeping half of the brain awake.22. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A. Birds’ condition.B. Birds weight.C. Birds’ feelings.D. Birds’ sleep patterns.23. Why do birds sleep together according to Paragraph3?A. They can attack their enemies.B. They can protect themselves well.C. They can lower body temperatures.D. They can share body heat in summer.24. Where do birds put their weak body parts while sleeping?A. Into their feathers.B. Into their feet.C. Into their mouths.D. Into their skin pockets.25. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. Birds can search for food in weak light.B. Birds should plan their activities more carefully.C. Birds can usually sleep longer at night in winter.D. Birds should place sleeping first on their to-do lists.3)语法填空The Dujiangyan is the oldest man-made water system in the world, and a wonder in the development of Chinese agriculture. Built over 2,200 years ago in 1 is now Sichuan Province in Southwest China, this amazing engineering 2 (achieve) is still used today. In ancient times, the region 3 Dujiangyan now stands suffered from regular floods from the Minjiang River. 4 (help) the victims of the flooding, Li Bing, the region governor, together with his son, decided to find 5 solution. Li designed a series of channels built at different levels along Mount Yulei that would take away the floodwaters while 6 (leave) the river flowing naturally. Much 7 (good), the extra water could be directed to the dry Chengdu Plain, making 8 suitable for farming.Once the system finished, no more floods happened and the people were able to live 9 (peaceful). Today, Dujiangyan is 10 (admire) by scientists from around the world because of one feature. Unlike modern dams, where the water is blocked with a huge wall, Dujiangyan still lets water flow through the Minjiang River naturally, making the ecosystem(生态系统) and fish populations exist in peace.4)应用文写作假如你所在学校为了进一步增强学生的安全意识,提高自我保护能力,开展了以安全为主题的英语演讲比赛。

Unit 4 Natural Disasters一、阅读理解A[自然灾害/]Yellowstone National Park withdrew more than 10,000 v isitors after flash floods hit the park. Houses, roads and bridges were washed away, and the park’s gateway communities were cut off from roads. E v en as scientists and land managers are shocked by these v ere floods, unseen in 100 years of recorded history, they recognize the similarities to thee v ents their data predicted. They just didn’t expect them to occur this year. While it will take more research to confirm if climate change made this flood e v ent more extreme, the2021GreaterYellowstoneClimateAssessment predicts significant changes in precipitation(降水), including when it will arri v e and what form it will take. Scientists expect more spring rain and less winter snow. The assessment also predicts increasing annual precipitation in Yellowstone National Park.Changes ha v e been already documented in the assessment. Since 1950, spring precipitation in the region has increased by 17 percent in April and 23 percent in May. Snowfall has dwindled e v en though o v erall annual precipitation has increased. That means rather than a slow release of meltwater to v alleys during the summer months, rainfall tends to combine with melting snow, causing riskier e v ents like the recent flood.June precipitation this year is now at more than 400 percent abo v e a v erage in the parts of Montana and Wyoming that include Yellowstone. And as temperatures rise, these rain-on-snow e v ents are projected to become more frequent at higher ele v ations(海拔) in western North America, while lower snowpack will make them less frequent at low ele v ations.Bruce Stein, chief scientist of the National Wildlife Federation, said se v eral years before, when he trained Yellowstone employees for climate planning, they focused on the features that drew v isitors to the park — like bison and wol v es. Roads, bridges, and houses getting washed away were out of their consideration. "I think it’s urgent and necessary for the park to look ahead to plan for different situations that could possibly happen as the climate changes," said Stein.

阅读理解A(2015·洛阳统考)导学号 01830153 One winter, my cousin and I were playing toy blocks in the yard. My mom was out for shopping to get groceries and my dad was asleep upstairs in his room. Suddenly, it started to snow. First it was just a little. But then it started to pour heavily. Then, we put the finishing touches to our blocks and headed back inside. Right when I opened the sliding glass door, my cousin fell down on the slippery wooden stairs. I let go of the door, my worst mistake, you see. The door locks automatically but I had put a rock, right next to the door so it wouldn't close. But while I was running to my cousin's aid I'd accidentally kicked the rock. Now, my cousin and I were locked outside. And unfortunately it started to get really windy. It was really freezing with the snow. First we started to call my dad, but he was sleeping soundly. I mean, slept through a tornado soundly. It was of no use. Then I tried to climb over the fence but it didn't work because the fence was iced by snow and wind, and the fence is six feet high. So, I climbed up to my tree house and brainstormed some ideas on ways to get in. At one point, I was seriously considering jumping out of the tree house and using the trampoline(蹦床) to jump over the fence. So, we got to work. First, I took out the trampoline. Then I started to jump. First try—I almost cracked my head. Second try—this time I convinced my cousin to do it but at the last second, he chickened_out. He didn't have food, water, a phone, or other supplies. He was getting colder by the minute.Nicholas had no idea where he was.He tried not to panic. He thought about all of the survival shows he had watched on TV.It was time to put the tips he had learned to use.He decided to stop skiing. There was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put.The first thing he did was to find shelter from the freezing wind and snow.If he didn't,his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him.Using his skis,Nicholas built a snow cave.He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug out a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket,to stay as warm as he could.By that evening,Nicholas was really hungry. He ate snow and drank water from a nearby stream so that his body wouldn't lose too much water. Not knowing how much longer he could last,Nicholas did the only thing he could—he huddled(蜷缩)in his cave and slept. The next day,Nicholas went out to look for help, but he couldn't find anyone. He followed histracks and returned to the snow cave, because without shelter,he could die that night. On Tuesday,Nicholas went out again to find help.He had walked for about a mile when a volunteer searcher found him. After two days stuck in the snow,Nicholas was saved.Nicholas might not have survived this snowstorm had it not been for TV.He had often watched Grylls' survival show Man v s.
