高中英语必修三Unit5—Canada-“The True North”Reading
一、概述
This is the first reading passage in this unit. The article describes a trip across Canada from west to east by train, which also introduces some basic information about famou s cities in Canada, such as Vancouver, Calgary, Thunder Bay, ect. Before reading, we can have students do some research about Canada so that they may understand the article easily.
二、教学目标分析
After the lesson, Ss will be able to
1. language knowledge: get to know some basic knowledge about Canada;
2. language skill: learn how to read a traveling report and how to use a map to help comprehe nsion; catch the key words in order to locate the answers to questions;
三、学习者特征分析
通过学习本单元,让学生对加拿大有了更多的了解,使学生能够用所学的词汇与句式表达方向与位置,并学会条理地写出旅游过程中的所见所闻。

六、教学过程
Step1. Warming Up (8 mins)
1.Guessing game: show some iconic pictures of different countries and have Ss guess whi
ch country it is.
Rationale: make Ss warm up and lead in to the topic country—Canada.
2. Show a map of Canada and ask Ss to talk about its basic information they have known. For
example, its location, capital city, largest city, etc. 3. Quiz about Canada:
1) What language(s) do Canadians speak?
A. English
B. English and German
C. English and French
D. English and Spanish
2) What is the capital city of Canada?
A. Vancouver
B. Toronto
C. Calgary
D. Ottawa 3) ……
Rationale: make Ss know more about Canada and be able to predict the article Step2. Pre-reading ( 7 mins)
Prediction: Look at the map and predict:
1) What does The True North mean? 2) What is the route (路线) of their trip?
Rationale: learn to use the information they have known to make prediction so as to help compreh ension.
Step3. While-reading (20 mins)
1. Skimming: ask Ss to skim the article and answer:
1) The passage talks about a _______ to _________ of two girls, who wanted to
visit their ________ in __________. 2) What is The True North?
3) Draw down the route of the trip on the map.
2. Scanning: read the passage carefully and finish the following exercise.

Discuss with your partners: Which part interests you most? Why?
Rationale: through this exercise, we can know how much information the Ss have mastered, so we can arrange the contents of next lessons.

本节课的教学过程,课堂按照之前预设的方案步骤成功地进行。

整个课堂开场导入不错,很吸引人,整个课堂教学成程中,学生参与,展示的活动很多:学生展示了小组合作完成的课前作业“查找有关加拿大国家的一些基本信息”,因为此环节是课前预习作业,学生完成的情况想当好,并且能够在前面流利地用英语为大家介绍他们各自小组的成果。
