第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
“Father, I’d like to make a trip. Why not fly out and meet me?”I murmured(低声说).
After 27 years as a manager for IBM My father had just retired. His job filled his day, his thoughts, his life. While he woke up and took a warm shower, I screamed under a freezing waterfall in Peru. While he tied a tie and put on the same Swiss watch, I rowed a boat across Lake of the Ozarks.
My father sees me drifting aimlessly, nothing to show for my 33 years but a passport full of funny stamps. He wants me to settle down, but now I want him to find an adventure.
He agrees to travel with me through the national parks. We meet four weeks later in Rapid City.
“What is our first stop?”asks my father.
“What time is it?”
“Still don't have a watch?”
Less than an hour away is Mount Rushmore. As he stares up at the four presidents carved in granite (花岗岩), his mouth and eyes open slowly, like those of a little boy.
“Unbelievable,”he says.“How was this done?”
A film in the information center shows sculptor Gutzon Borglum devoted 14 years to the sculpture and then left the final touches to his son.
We stare up and I ask myself, Would I ever devote my life to anything?
No directions, no goals. I always used to hear those words in my father's voice. Now I hear them in my own.
The next day we're at Yellowstone National Park, where we have a picnic.
“Did you ever travel with your dad?” I ask.
“Only once,” he says.“I never spoke much with my father. We loved each other—but never said it. Whatever he could give me, he gave.”
The last sentence—it's probably the same thing I'd say about my father. And what I'd want my child to say about me.
In Glacier National Park, my father says,“I've never seen water so blue.”I have, in several places of the world. I can keep traveling, I realize—and maybe a regular job won't be as dull as I feared.
Weeks after our trip, I call my father.
“The photos from the trip are wonderful,” he says.“We have got to take another trip like that sometime.”
I tell him I've decided to settle down, and I'm wearing a watch.

The caribou is a member of the deer family. It looks like a large mule deer with soft hollow hair, long legs, large hooves and large antlers. In Alaska, 97 to 99 percent of the females have antlers as well as the males.
Although the caribou looks like a deer, they are different from other members of their family in many ways. They are not too shy (unless in common hunting area),they are capable of sleeping in water, and they are herd animals that are always on the move. These tamable animals like to eat moss and lie in the shade, but they hate the nasty flies that bite them and lay eggs on their back. The flies are one reason the caribou is always on the move, and the other reason is that the caribou eats moss called lichen (地衣) that takes years to grow back.
Characteristics and Physical Features of the Caribou
Size:4-5 ft.
Weight:500+lb.
Color:Greyish and brown with white on the neck and belly areas.
Distinguishing Characteristics:3 ft.antlers.
Breeding:They breed in the fall.
Habitat:Throughout the Arctic tundra of Russia,Alaska,Canada and Greenland.
Diet:Moss and lichen.
Caribou are wild. If they are domesticated they are called reindeer. Eurasians (欧亚混血儿) do not use the name caribou at all; they use the terms wild reindeer and domestic reindeer. Arctic people hunt caribou for the good meat and warm hide so they have names for caribou to specify age and gender.
The caribou eats food under snow, so to get at it the caribou must shovel the snow.It nods its head and shovels snow out of the way like a horse would.
When the caribou eats, the food goes down to the caribou's first stomach, where it is broken into small balls and stored to eat at the caribou's next meal.
The caribou has a very warm, very soft fur that is hollow, insulated, and sheds water and snow. This valuable fur was traded for a lot of money in the 1800's.The caribou population kept dropping because of overhunting until laws were passed to protect it.
24.What is the most outstanding characteristic of the caribou?

A.Eurasians use caribou in place of wild reindeer and domestic reindeer.
B.Reindeer can sleep in water. C.Reindeer are shier than caribou.
D.Reindeer are domesticated caribou.
27.What's the purpose of writing this passage?
A.To make the caribou known. B.To amuse readers.
C.To distinguish the caribou from the reindeer. D.To protect the caribou.

There are some special forests in the low longitude which are called rainforests.
A rainforest is an area covered by tall trees with the total high rainfall spreading
quite equally through the year and the temperature rarely dipping below 16℃. Rainforests have a great effect on the world environment because they can take in heat from the sun and adjust the climate. Without the forest cover, these areas would reflect more heat into the atmosphere, warming the rest of the world. Losing the rainforests may also influence wind and rainfall patterns, potentially causing certain natural disasters all over the world.
In the past hundred years, humans have begun destroying rainforests in search of three major resources (资): land for crops, wood for paper and other products, land for raising farm animals. This action affects the environment as a whole. For example, a lot of carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) in the air comes from burning the rainforests. People obviously have a need for the resources we gain from cutting trees but we will suffer much more than we will benefit.
There are two main reasons for this.Firstly, when people cut down trees, generally they can only use the land for a year or two. Secondly, cutting large sections of rainforests may provide a good supply of wood right now, but in the long run it actually reduces the world's wood supply.
Rainforests are often called the world's drug store. More than 25% of the medicines we use today come from plants in rainforests. However, fewer than 1% of rainforest plants have been examined for their medical value. It is extremely likely that our best chance to cure diseases lies somewhere in the world's shrinking rainforests.
28.Rainforests can help to adjust the climate because they ________.
A.reduce the effect of heat from the sun on the earth
B.bring about high rainfall throughout the world
C.rarely cause the temperature to drop lower than 16℃
D.reflect more heat into the atmosphere
29.What does the underlined word “this” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.People have a strong desire for resources.
B.We will lose much more than we can gain.
C.Much carbon dioxide comes from burning rainforests.
D.Humans have begun destroying rainforests.
30.It can be inferred from the text that ________.
A.we will grow fewer kinds of crops in the gained land
B.the level of annual rainfall affects wind patterns
C.there is great medicine potential in rainforests
D.we can get enough resources without rainforests
31.What might be the best title for the text?
A.How to Save Rainforests B.How to Protect Nature
C.Rainforests and Medical Development D.Rainforests and the Environment
D
With the development of science, a lot of high technologies have already appeared. Scientists have claimed a milestone in the drive for new energy—development of the first practical artificial leaf, an advanced solar cell that imitates the process,
called photosynthesis (光合作用), that green plants use to make sunlight and water into energy.
“A practical artificial leaf has been a dream of scientists f or decades,” said Daniel Nocera, who led the research team. “We believe we have made it. The artificial leaf shows particular promise as an inexpensive source of electricity for homes of the poor in developing countries. One can imagine villages in India and Africa soon purchasing an affordable basic power system based on this technology.”
The leaf is like the shape of a poker card but thinner. Placed in water in a bright sunlight, it could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, which are stored in a fuel cell to produce electricity.
The “artificial leaf” is not a new concept. The first artificial leaf was developed more than a decade ago by John Ttlrner. However, it was impractical for wider use, as it was composed of rare, expensive metals and was highly unstable with a lifespan of barely on day.
Nocera's new leaf overcomes these problems. It is made of inexpensive materials that are widely available, works under simple conditions and is highly stable. Laboratory studies showed that it could operate continuously for at least 45 hours without a drop in acitivity.
The key to this breakthrough is Nocera's recent discovery of several new powerful, inexpensive catalysts, which are able to accelerate (加速) the chemical reaction under simple conditions. Right now, Nocera's leaf is about 10 times more efficient at carrying out photosynthesis than a natural leaf. Yet he is optimistic that he can boost the efficiency of the device much higher in the future.
32.Daniel Nocera describes his artificial leaf as promising in ________.
A.finding a new kind of catalyst to produce electricity
B.changing the sunlight and water into electricity directly
C.providing electricity for the poor family at a low cost
D.making an artificial plant that can feed itself
33.According to the passage, catalysts in the artificial leaf ________.
A.reduce the loss of energy during its operation
B.work as a media to store collected energy
C.slow down the course of chemical reactions
D.speed up the process of chemical reactions
34.The underlined word “it” in the fourth paragraph refers to ________.
A.catalyst used by the solar cell B.Turner's artificial leaf
C.Nocera's new leaf D.photosynthesis 35.The passage is most probably from ________.
A.a fairy tale book B.an advertisement for solar products
C.a science news report D.a science fiction story 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

作文参考范文 As time goes on, the New Year has come. I often think what my school life will be like in 2019.
It will be only several months before I take part in the college entrance exams, so I will have to be very busy with my lessons. Longing for studying computer science in a famous university, I must work harder to make my dream come true.
There is no doubt that I must strike a balance between work and rest. I will take more regular exercise, such as running and some ball games. Besides, I will also enjoy reading and playing the piano. Not only will they broaden my horizon, but also be good ways of relaxation.
As Napoleon Hill puts it ,“Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.”I do believe my school life of 2019 will be much richer and more colorful. 附:听力材料
