Efficiency refers to getting the most output from the least amount of inputs.

Effectiveness is concerned with completing activities so that organizational goals are attained.

4.How organizations go global
Organizations typically go global in three stages.
Stage I is exporting to or importing from foreign countries.
组织走向全球化往往经历三个阶段:阶段Ⅰ是向国外出口或从国外进口;
Stage II involves hiring foreign representatives to sell the organization's products or contracting with foreign manufacturers to make the organization's products.
阶段Ⅱ是雇用外国代理商销售组织的产品或与国外的制造商订立合同来制造组织的产品;
Stage III is the most serious commitment to global business and involves licensing franchising, strategic alliances, joint ventures, or foreign subsidiaries.

The decision-making process
Decision making is a set of eight steps that includes identifying a problem, selecting a alternative, and evaluating the decisions effectiveness .
(1) identification of problems,
(2) identification of decision criteria,
(3) allocation[ˌæləˈkeiʃən]分配of weights to the criteria,
(4) development of alternatives,
(5) analysis of alternatives,
(6) selection of an alternative,
(7) implementation of the alternative
(8) evaluation of decision effectiveness
Procedure : a series of interrelated steps that can be used to respond to a well-structured problem.
Rule : an explicit statement that tells managers what they can or cannot do.
Policy : a guideline for making decisions.

Well-designed goals have the following characteristics:
written in terms of outcomes rather than actions; measurable and quantifiable;

clear as to a time frame; challenging but attainable; written down; communicated to all organizational members

缺点:intelligence and other tested characteristic can be somewhat removed from actual job performance thus reducing their validity
