2013年高考第二轮复习英语陕西版专题升级训练十六史地、自然、科普、新闻类阅读理解、信息匹配(一)第一节阅读理解AThe Alps are the youngest and highest mountain system in Europe. They stretch across the western and southern part of the continent in a broad arc.The mountain range starts near the Mediterranean Sea on the border between France and Italy. Then it curves north and eastward through northern Italy,Switzerland,Liechtenstein, southern Germany,Austria and Slovenia. The Alps are about 1,000 km long, and the broadest section is over 260 km wide. The highest peak,Mont Blanc, situated on the border between France,Italy and Switzerland, rises 4,807 meters above sea level.Other famous peaks are the Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, the GroBglockner and the Zugspitze.Millions of years ago the area of today's Alps was covered by a large sea that separated Europe and Africa. The southern land mass started moving northwards. This movement folded rock layers at the bottom of the sea.Heat and pressure transformed the rock and pushed the_material upwards.Today these regions are the highest parts of the Alps. Most of the newly formed rock is granite and gneiss, but many ranges consist of limestone which also formed on the seabed.During the Ice Age,which started about a million years ago,the Alps were covered with a thick blanket of snow.Glaciers moved down valleys and made them wider and deeper. As they moved they took rock and other material with them, creating moraines (冰碛).When glaciers started to melt water filled up behind these natural dams and created the alpine lakes we know today. The largest of these glaciers is the Aletsch in Switzerland which reaches a l ength of about 25 km.The longest glacier of the eastern Alps is the 8 km long Pasterze,at the foot of the GroBglockner. The ice and snow of the alpine regions helped create the large rivers of today:the Rhine,Rhone,Danube and the Po.1.From the first two paragraphs we know the Alps ______.A.are about 260 km wideB.stretch across the western part of AfricaC.are the youngest mountain system in the worldD.have the highest peak 4,807 meters above sea level2.What does the underlined phrase “this material” i n Para.3 refer to?A.Sea water and rock.B.Rock that was transformed.C.Rock layers that were folded.D.Limestone which was on the seabed.3.It can be inferred from the passage that the Alps were formed ______.A.before the Ice Age B.during the Ice AgeC.because of seas' movement D.because of glaciers' movement4.From the passage we know Danube is ______.A.a kind of rock B.one of the Alps' famous peaksC.the name of a river D.one of the largest glaciersBNanoparticles(纳米粒子)are everywhere, from cosmetics and clothes,to soda and snacks. But as common as they are, they also have a downside, say researchers at Binghamton University and Cornell University in a recent paper published in thejournal Nature Nanotechnology. These tiny particles, even in low doses, could have a big impact on our longterm health.According to the lead author of the article,Gretchen Mahler, assistant professor of bioengineering at Binghamton University, much of the existing research on the safety of nanoparticles has been directly related to health effects. But what Mahler and a team of researchers really wanted to know was what happens when someone gets constant exposure in small doses—the kind you'd get if you took a drug or supplement that included nanoparticles in some form.“We thought that the best way to measure the more subtle(精细的)effects of this kind of intake was to monitor the reaction of intestinal(肠道的)cells,”said Mahler.“And we did this in two ways:through human intestinallining cells that we had cultured in the lab,and through the intestinal linings of live chickens. Both sets of results pointed to the same thing—that exposure to nanoparticles influences the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream.”The uptake of iron was of particular interest due to the way it is absorbed and processed through the intestines.“What w e found was that for brief exposures, iron absorption dropped by about 50 percent,”said Mahler.“But when we extended that period of time, absorption actually increased by about 200 percent. It was very clear—nanoparticles definitely affect iron uptake and transport.”While brief oral exposure disrupted intestinal iron transport, longtime exposure caused intestinal cells to be larger and broader, thus allowing iron to enter the bloodstream much faster.“The intestinal cells are a gateway that ingested nanoparticles must go through to get to the body,”said Mahler.“We monitored iron absorption and found that the polystyrene nanoparticles affected the absorption process and caused a physiological response.”5.What is the best title for the passage?A.Nanoparticles are common in our life.B.Nanoparticles have an effect on our health.C.We should know more about nanoparticles.D.The intake of nanoparticles should be banned.6.Gretchen Mahler's research is to ______.A.measure the direct health effects of iron uptakeB.find out the effect of longtime expo sure to nanoparticlesC.explore how to reduce the effects of nanoparticlesD.study how nanoparticles affect chickens7.The underlined word “disrupted” in the last paragraph probably means “______”.A.disordered B.benefitedC.discovered D.followed8.In which part of a magazine can this passage most likely be found?A.Science. B.History.C.Entertainment. D.Economy.CClimate change is threatening to redraw the world's wineproducing map,and the effects are already being seen in earlier harvests and coarser(更为粗糙、劣质的)wines.“The consequences of global warming are already being felt.Harvests are already coming 10 days earlier than before in almost all grapegrowing regions,”said Bernard Seguin, the head of climate studies at France's INRA agricultural research institute. He was speaking at the opening of the Second International Congress on Wine and Climate Change.“Wine and wineproducing will change in a way that will dependon how we face global warming,”said Seguin.“If the tempera ture rises two or three degrees centigrade,we could manage to see Bordeaux remain as Bordeaux,Rioja as Rioja,Burgundy as Burgundy. But if it goes up five or six degrees,we must face up to huge problems, and the changes will be hard,”he said.Grapes are damaged if they ripen too quickly, due to higher temperatures and a lack of rain.“When a grape matures more quickly, you get higher concentrations of sugar, lower acidity(酸性)and a higher PH level,”said Fernando Zamora of the oenology faculty(葡萄酒酿造学系)at the University of Tarragona in Spain. The result is coarser wines, with a higher alcohol level and lower acidity which can destroy the delicate flavor of good quality wines,he said.It would also lead to higher prices in countries which tax wine according to its alcoho l level.“The types of wines will change in almost all regions,”said Vicente Sotes,a professor at the Polytechnic University. And some regions which still produce good wine would no longer benefit from the ideal climatic conditions that are responsible for their fame.“The French will have problems, especially in the Bordeaux region,”said Pancho Campos, the president of the Wine Academy of Spain, who organized the Barcelona conference.“German producers on the banks of the Rhine will be the least at risk,”he sai d.The French “Grand Crus” could be further threatened by the “New World” wines of Australia,California,Chile,Argentina,South Africa and New Zealand, which would have the best climatic conditions.“The countries in the southern hemisphere(半球)are next to a greater mass of water, and it is sea currents that maintain the temperature at its level,”said Campos.9.What's the main idea of the passage?A.How we should fight against the climate change.B.Earlier harvests are the causes of coarser wines.C.Wine production is threatened by the climate change.D.Global warming is very serious in many countries.10.A brand of wine with poor quality bears the feature of ______.A.a lower alcohol level B.a lower PH levelC.a lower acidity level D.a lower sugar level11.The last paragraph indicates that ______.A.wines produced in the countries in the southern hemisphere have low prices B.French wine producers face more threats from the rise of temperatureC.the southern countries have much higher temperature compared with the north D.the countries in the southern hemisphere would have ideal climate for wine producingDScientists think it will be possible to record people's dreams and then interpret them. They claim to have developed a system which allows them to record higher level brain activity.Dr Moran Cerf told the journal Nature:“We would like to read people's dreams.”Previously the only way to access people's dreams is for psychologists to ask about them after the event and try to interpret them.Dr Cerf hopes to eventually compare people's memories of their dreams with an electronic picture of their brain activity. He told the BBC:“There's no clear answer as to why humans dream. And one of the questions we would like to answer is when do we actually create this dream.”The scientist believes his latest research shows that certain neurons(神经元)or individual brain cells are linked with specific objects or concepts. He found that a particular neuron lit up when a volunteer thought about Marilyn Monroe. If a databasewas built up identifying various neurons with concepts, objects and people,it would allow them to “read the subject's minds”,according to Dr Cerf. However,Dr Roderick Oner,a clinical psychologist and dream expert, said that this kind of picture would be of lim ited help when it came to interpreting the “complex dream story”.In order to get a detailed picture of individual neurons, scientists had to have electrodes(电极)implanted deep in the brain by using surgery. The Nature researchers used data from patients who had electrodes implanted to monitor and treat them for brain seizures. However,Dr Cerf said he hoped that it would be possible at a later stage to monitor people without invasive surgery. He said it would be “wonderful” to be able to read the minds of coma(昏迷的)patients who are unable to communicate.12.How did we record and interpret our dreams in the past?A.We couldn't do that because of our limited science knowledge.B.Only some scientists could do that with some special systems.C.Everyone could do that by asking about the dreamers after the event.D.Psychologists could do that by asking about the dreamers after the event.13.What can be inferred from the 3rd paragraph?A.Dr Cerf's latest research is really a success.B.Dr Cerf's latest research turns out to be a failure.C.Not all scientists are in favor of Dr Cerf's opinion.D.All scientists think Dr Cerf's research is ridiculous.14.Why did scientists have electrodes implanted deep in the brain?A.Because they wanted to gain a more clear image of individual neurons.B.Because they hoped to find a new way of curing the patients' brain seizures.C.Because they could get the data that would be used for treating brain seizures.D.Because they wanted to read the minds of coma patients unable to communicate.15.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?A.A famous scientist,Dr CerfB.Scientists plan to record people's dreamsC.When do we actually create this dreamD.Roderick These two makeshift (临时的) hospitals were built to treat pneumonia patients infected with the novel coronavirus.HuoshenshanHospitalhas 1,000 beds and covers 33,900 square meters, andLeishenshanHospitalhas 1,500 beds and a total area of about 79,000 square meters. More than 4,000 workers worked 24/7 in two shifts, and nearly 1,000 large-scale pieces of equipment and transport vehicles helped the project on site. The two hospitals were built in an amazingly short time. It only took 10 days for people to build Huo shenshan, and 14 days for Lei shenshan. This certainly wowed many people overseas. “It's incredible that two hospitals with 2,500 beds can be built in a short period. It's just hard to believe,” a foreigner named Stuart told People's Daily. In the meantime, Chinese companies have also taken actions quickly in this battle.“The automobile industry is highly industrialized with strong capabilities in comprehensive manufacturing, purchasing materials, production lines and output of technologies,” Shi Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, told CCTV News. “In this special time, when the nation needs more masks, it's time for us to quickly respond and shoulder the social responsibilities.”Indeed, a fast response is crucial in any crisis. At the click of a keyboard) you could enter an overall view but private visual salon, without having to brave the airless Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. There, on one webpage, was Jeff Koons riffing(翻唱)on Botticelli's "Primavera" in a tribute to the history of painting at David Zwirner Gallery. Ota Fine Arts offered one collector the chance to acquire an "infinity(无限)room“, one of the most Instagrammed artworks of recent years- the creation of the fantasies, nonagenarian (九十多岁) Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. White Cube presented a large collection of international works by Andreas Gursky (German), Theaster Gates (American) and Beatriz Milhazes (Brazilian). But not every artist, gallery andform showed to equal advantage in this alternative fair. Not surprisingly, simple two-dimensional works in bright colours came across best No sculpture or conceptual art was includedBesides depth and texture, there are aspects of gallery hopping that a website is unlikely to copy. One isserendipity—the sense of wandering between artworks and encountering the unexpected. Another is sociability. Art is a communion between artist and viewer, but galleries and fairs are also places to swap opinions and share enthusiasms.Thereare ways to compensate (or these inevitable(不可避免的)disadvantages. As they shut their physical doors, some of the world's nest galleries and museums are offering advanced interactive visits, 360 degree videos and walk around tours of their collections, allwithout queues and high ticket prices. One of the best is laid on by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam;its tour allows visitors to view its Vermeers and Rembrandts, including the magnicent "Night Watch”, far more closely than would normally he possible. Another standout offering is from the Museu de Arte de SPaulo, which has an even broader collection. On its virtual platform, its pain tings, spanning 700 years, appear to be hanging in an open-plan space, seemingly hung on glass panels, or "crystal easels” as the. museum calls them, ideal for close-up inspection,8. Art beyond the internet.B. Fascinating art.C. Art under covid-19.D. gallery hoppingDIf you think you’d like to live on Mars, you may have that possibility by 2023. A Dutch company called Mars One will soon advertise for people interested in colonizing (开拓) Mars. Ifyou have all the necessary skills, you could be one of the first colonists. Are you ready for the challenge? You won’t have to pay for the mission to Mars. Mars One has already received money from some donors and is hoping to get more from TV viewers who will become interested in the show where all applicants have a debate for the rare chances. The main responsibility of the first colonists is to create an artificial environment on Mars where there is no air to breathe and no land to farm. Scientists know it’s quite possible because something similar has already been done inAntarctica.Another problem is that space travel to Mars takes nearly a year to get to Mars and the colonists will live the rest of their lives there. When a human lives in an environment without gravity or with low gravity for a long time, the systems in the body weaken. Luckily, spinning (旋转) the spaceship can create artificial gravity, and artificial gravity can ease these problems. It will also be difficult for Mars colonists to be far from home, living in small spaces, and seeing the same people over and over. Colonists with depression could put the mission in danger. Fortunately, a few years ago, a joint Russian and European project called the Mars500 Mission studied people’s reactions in a Mars-like environment. It is viewed as a great success because scientists were able to see how people handle emotional and physical stresses.Recent studies show that seven percent of people would want to go on such an adventure.Mars One will soon start accepting its first colonists. Are you interested?12. What do we know about the applicants to Mars from the first two paragraphs?A. They will land on Mars in 2023.B. They can get money from donors.C. They will compete in a TV show.D. They do not need special skills.13. What will the first colonists do to solve the basic living problems on Mars?A. Create earth-like conditions.B. Build labs inAntarctica.C. Spin the spaceship.D. Start the Mars500Mission.14. What can the life of the first colonists be like according to the passage?A. Difficult and dangerous.B. Different but adaptable.C. Challenging and unbearable .D. Acceptable but depressing.15. What’s the best title for the text?A. Mars: our final destination?B. Ready to be Mars’ colonists?C. Space travel: a thrilling adventure?D. Are you a qualified Mars astronaut?第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

AGreat paintings evoke feelings of awe and wonder centuries after they were created. Often the inspiration for a masterpiece came from something very specific: a person the artist knew, a personal experience or a wellknown story.Mona LisaIt is an oil painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. There has been much speculation about who the woman in the Mona Lisa is, due in part to her mysterious smile. Most scholars nowadays identify the woman as Lisa delGiocondo, the wife of a wealthy silk merchant. Her husband most likely missioned the painting to celebrate the birth of their second son.Whistler’s MotherJames Abbott McNeill Whistler originally planned to use a model for this painting and to have her standing. The model did not show up for the appointment, so he asked his mother to stand in. Since she found standing for so long unfortable, he changed plans and painted her sitting. The Starry NightVincent van Gogh was a talented artist who struggled with mental health problems throughout his short life. Arguably his most famous painting, The Starry Night depicts a view from his window in an asylum where he stayed because of these mental health issues. Van Gogh painted 21 versions of this view but he may have been surprised to learn that it was the one destined for fame.Portrait of Dr. GachetVan Gogh was eventually released from the asylum, so he needed a new place to stay. His brother connected him with Dr. Gachet, who took Van Gogh in. At first, the artist was skeptical of the doctor’s ability to help him because Dr. Gachet also struggled with mental illness. But just two days after expressing these doubts to his brother, Van Gogh wrote to his sister that he considered the doctor a true friend. Van Gogh ultimately painted Portrait of Dr. Gachet in honor of his friend.1.Who is Lisa delGiocondo?A.An unknown model.B.A pregnant woman.C.Leonardo Da Vinci’s wife.D.The wife of a rich businessman.2.What do The Starry Night and Portrait of Dr. Gachet have in mon?A.They are works by the same artist.B.They are both about scenery.C.They are in honor of friends.D.They are pained at the asylum.3.What is the text about?A.Worldfamous artists.B.Western painting styles.C.Stories behind great paintings.D.Painting process of masterpieces.BRising food prices have taken a big bite out of what Canadians are able to serve up for dinner but food economists say our ability to cope has been deteriorated by our mon decline in cooking skills. “We are less able to cook than we were 30 or 40 years ago, and so it’s much more difficult for us to adapt our diet,” said Mike von Massow, an associate professor at the University of Guelph.A 2010 federal government report called Improving Cooking and Food Preparation Skills, the most recent of its kind, said that all across the population, processed and preprepared foods have been permitted. “Related to this permission is the potential lack of transference of basic, traditional cooking and food preparation skills from parents to children and adolescents,” the report reads. Moreover, the quality of preprepared foods in the market remains uneven, with problems related to the lack of detailed labelling on such products, as well as difficulties in logistics and distribution.Annie Belov, a 21yearold student, has taught herself a lot about cooking since food prices started shooting up. “When the inflation (通货膨胀) wasn’t as bad, I was constantly eating out,” said Belov. That might mean food on campus or picking up a prepared item at Safeway when the price was still around $5, she said.Belov now often makes dishes such as Caesar salad, as well as hearty pasta salads that bine carbs with vegetables and a bit of chicken. Be lov said she’s a lot more efficient in the kitchen thanks to building her skills through trial and error. “Now, definitely more than before, I can kind of look in the pantry or in the freezer and be like, ‘OK, yeah, I can make a meal quickly and easily.’”It’s important to note, however, that cooking skills alone cannot solve the affordability problem, said Elaine Power. And in 2023, Food Banks Canada says food insecurity is rising with inflation and the high cost of living. So while cooking skills can better position people to feed themselves and their families as best they can in forced circumstances, “that doesn’t, and can’t, make up for ine that is inadequate in the first place.”4.Which is the closest in meaning to the underlined word in paragraph 1?A.worsened. B.interrupted. C.puzzled. D.upset.5.What is a disadvantage of preprepared foods?A.Failing to attract diners.B.The loss of cooking skills.C.Difficulties in keeping its flavors.D.Shortage of fresh ingredients.6.What can we say about Annie Belov?A.She suffers a tough financial patch.B.She ends up showing a love of cooking.C.She used to dine out at a restaurant.D.She receives cooking education in schools.7.What is the key to solve the affordability problem according to Elaine Power?A.Lower cost of living. B.More cooking at home.C.Food security status. D.Increased ine.CSmart phones provide a palm (手掌)size window to the world, enabling us to do almost anything at the touch of a button. This research showed that people want to avoid empty periods of time in their lives, so they fill those periods performing tasks, some of which wouldn’t be possible without technology.Whether it was waiting for a bus, waking in the morning, or lying in bed at night, our research reported that time which would previously be “empty” was now filled with brain training apps, creating lists of things they should do or try based on their social media feed, and other life admin. On the face of it some of these tasks may seem like examples of tech saving us time. In theory, online banking should mean I have more time because I no longer need to go to the bank in my lunch break. However, our research suggests that this is not the case.If the idea that you have more time than ever before is making you choke on your coffee, you are not alone. There is growing evidence that while digital technology may help us to save some time, we end up using that time to do more and more things. For many people, it is no longer enough to simply eat dinner, watch TV or maybe do an exercise class. Instead, in an attempt to avoid wasting time, these activities are performed while also browsing the web in search of the ingredients for a more perfect life and trying to develop a sense of achievement. It seems that people still see going for a walk or actually being with friends as more valuable than being online. Maybe if we put down the phone a little more, we would have the time to actually cook those recipes we watch online.8.What conclusion can be drawn in the first paragraph?A.Technology makes our lives easier.B.We can’t live well without modern technology.C.Virtual meeting is a thing of the past.D.A smart home offers you luxury and convenience.9.What does the research find about free time?A.It is an essential means of relaxation.B.It does good to perform daily tasks.C.It is secretly stolen by technology.D.It forces people to do more work.10.What does the example of online banking tell us?A.It’s not too late to get free time back.B.Lunch break can be saved by online banking.C.Doing little or nothing is sometimes OK.D.Technology leads to a denser form of life.11.Who are the target readers of the text?A.Students in online learning.B.Employees working in the bank.C.People relying on digital devices.D.Researchers in the technological lab.DMars exploration is a significant scientific expedition and it’s like the Apollo missions on the Moon 50 years ago. While humanled missions to Mars seem likely in the ing decades, what are our prospects of longterm habitation on Mars? Scientists have found a way to grow cyanbacteria, also known as bluegreen algae (水藻), on Mars. It’s a discovery that could lead to human habitation of the Red Planet.Cyanobacteria are tiny living things found in water. They release oxygen during photosynthesis (the process by which organisms use sunlight to make their own food). The algae can also transform other gases, such as carbon dioxide and nitrogen, into nutrients, substances that help living things grow. Scientists think that a huge rise in the numbers of cyanobacteria 2.4 billion years ago is what made Earth’s atmosphere breathable.Mars’ atmosphere is mostly made up of carbon dioxide and nitrogen and there is little oxygen in Mars’s atmosphere. So researchers are hoping the bluegreen algae could be used to allow plants to grow there too, for food and medicines. However, it is impossible to grow bluegreen algae on Mars naturally. To solve this problem, a team of scientists from the University of Bremen, in Germany, have developed a special bioreactor (生物反应器) called Atmos. A bioreactor is a machine for growing microbes. Using this, the team, led by Dr Cyprien Verseux, showed how cyanobacteria could be grown using resources found on Mars. Not only did the algae grow as hoped, but they also helped other organisms, such as bacteria, to grow. The bioreactor is still just a test version. It just starts and there is still a long way to go. However, Verseux hopes that the results can inspire a system that could one day support life on Mars.12.Cyanbacteria could play a significant role in human habitation on Mars because ________.A.they make their own foodB.they improve photosynthesisC.they release oxygen and nutrientsD.they absorb carbon dioxide and nitrogen13.What makes it possible to grow bluegreen algae on Mars?A.Improving the bioreactor.B.Inventing a special machine.C.Using resources found on Mars.D.Experimenting growing microbes.14.Which word best describes Verseux’s attitude to the current studies?A.Positive. People spend many dollars each year on items like boats and fourwheeldrive vehicles. In addition, they spend money on fishing equipment, bait, fuel and boat repairs. And you can see that fishing can be an expensive pastime. Fishing lovers believe that their hobby is worth it. Others say that fishing is spoiling the environment and that it is a cruel hobby.[2]Supporters of fishing say that it is a nice hobby. Firstly, of the millions of people who fish for fun, most only catch enough fish to feed their families. They catch fish that are found in large numbers, so there is little danger to the species (种类).[3]Secondly, recreational fishermen contribute to the economy. They spend money on equipment and other items, and they also spend it indirectly by paying taxes on their equipment and fuel. Those who travel to fishing spots pay for accommodation (食宿) and airfares. This money keeps people in work and provides new jobs each year.[4]Thirdly, fishing is relaxing and fun so it lessens stress. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, it is far better to go fishing. People who are relaxed are generally healthier and much nicer to be near—except for the smell of the bait![5]Those who ________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. This could lead to the dying out of some species. Modern cars and boats mean that people can fish in remote areas of the world, so no place is safe from greedy fishermen who take both males and females, leaving few fish to produce young.[6]Those against fishing also say that it is a blood sport, which means that an animal must die so that a human can have fun. Many of the fish caught for sport are not suitable for eating, so they are thrown away. Once hooked, fish have no chance of escape.1.What is the main idea of the passage? Girls are known to outperform boys at school, but this research showed that the trend continued at university.[3]Fiona Smith who led the research said, “The research shows that the difference has something to do with schools in general.”[4]“It also shows something about ________ for working women in terms of pay and promotion. Women work harder at school, harder at university, and do better at both, but they still receive less pay.”[5]The research found that female students were more faithful, less likely to miss lectures, and more likely to believe that their marks reflected their abilities than male students. Female students were also more likely to ask for and receive support from their professors.[6]Women were also more likely to choose their universities because they liked the courses offered.[7]In contrast, m en were likely than women to miss lectures due to “other affairs” and “laziness”, and to believe that playing sports was an important part of university life.[8]Generally, people think that women's success comes from more emphasis on coursework, but the research showed that female geographers at Brunel did better in their exams than in their coursework.[9]Dr. Smith said, “Most women feel that getting grades is the most important part of university life. They believe that they need to work harder in order to compete in the maledominated environment they will encounter at work. Good grades are viewed as an ‘insurance policy’ for success.
