如本题spring break即为对话中心,潜水和酒店都是由此引发的,对话内容也是在开始,女士问“Jim, have you got any ideas for our spring break?”

The results are as follows.Chart 1 shows the reasons why people choose to shop online. Of all the people surveyed, 49% think that there are many varieties of products in online shops. About one third of them say that reasonable price is the most appealing factor. And25% hold that online shopping is so convenient that consumers can buy what they want anywhere at anytime. Interestingly, 5% of the people even mention that they can make new friends through online shopping. However, many consumers also express their concerns about online shopping. Among all the concerns in Chart 2, the quality of the products, which accounts for as much as 55%, attracts my attention. Personally, I agree that what consumers get from online shops sometimes differs from what can be seen in the pictures, which can be very disappointing. Therefore, we should make sure the product is of good quality before making a purchase.2、Possible versionJim, as you can see, there is a river and a group of ants in the picture. Some ants are working together to build an “ant bridge” so that their group members are able to cross the river and reach their final destination. In my opinion, this picture vividly shows the importance of teamwork. It is impossible for a single ant to cross the river, but when they work together as a group, they can achieve their goals. Similarly in our life, an individual person cannot easily carry out a challenging task on his own without joining hands with others. In fact, there are a lot of occasions when teamwork is needed, such as ball games, project learning and even parties. As long as everyone of us combines our efforts, we can surely cross the “river” in our life, just like what the little ants do in the picture. This is my understanding of the picture. Don’t you think so, Jim?。

We sprung to out feet and raced out of the living room.“Father! What‟s that sound?” Hassan screamed, his hands outstretched toward Ali. Ali wrapped his arms around us. It flashed again and was followed by rapid sharp sounds of gunfire.“They‟re hunting ducks,” Ali said in a hoarse voice. “They hunt ducks at night, you know. Don‟t be afraid.”A sired(汽笛)went off in the distance. Somewhere glass broke and someone shouted. I heard people on the street, awakened from sleep. Hassan was crying. Ali pulled him close and held him with tenderness. We stayed huddled(蜷缩)that way until the early hours of the morning. The shootings and explosions had lasted less than an hour, but they had frightened us badly, because none o9f us had ever heard gunshots in the streets. They were foreign sounds to us then. The generations of Afghan children whose ears would know nothing but the sounds of the bombs and gunfire were not yet born. Huddled together in the dining room and waiting for the sun to rise, none of us had any idea that a way of life had ended. The end came when Russian tanks were rolling into the very same streets where Hassan and I played, bringing the death of the Afghanistan I knew and marking the start of a still ongoing era of bloodletting.Just before the sunrise, Baba‟s car pulled into the driveway. His door slammed shut and his running footsteps pounded the stairs. Then he appeared in the doorway and I saw something on his face. Something I didn‟t recognize right away because I‟d never seen it before: fear. “Amir! Hassan!” He cried as he ran to us, opening his arms wide. “They blocked all the roads and the telephon e didn‟t work. Studies have shown that vegetarians usually have lower levels of heart disease and a lower risk of diabetes than people who eat meat. What most people are less aware of, however, are the effects that a vegetarian diet can have on the environment.Researchers from the Union of Concerned Scientists in the US recently studied how consumer behavior affects the environment. The study showed that meat consumption is one of the main was that humans can damage the environment, second only to the use of motor vehicle. Then, how can eating meat have a negative effect on the environment? For a start, all farm animals such as cows, pigs, and sheep give off methane(沼气)gas by expelling(排出)wind from their bodies. One cow can produce up to 60 liters of methane each day. Methane gas is the second most common greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide. Many environmental experts now believe that it is more responsible for global warning than carbon dioxide. It is estimated that 25% of all methane released into the atmosphere comes from farm animals.Another way that meat production affects the environment is through the use of water and land.2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce one pound of beef, whereas 20 gallons of water are needed to produce on pound of wheat. One acre of farmland used for crop production can produce 40,000 pounds of potatoes, 30,00 pounds of carrots, or 50,000 pounds of tomatoes. Many people now see the benefits of switching to vegetarian diet, not just for health reasons, but also because it plays a vital role in protecting the environment6. However, some nutritionists advise against switching to a totally strict vegetarian, or vegan diet5. They believe a vegan diet, which excludes all products from animal sources, such as cheese, eggs, and milk, can be short of many necessary vitamins and minerals our bodies need.Today, many people know it‟s important to take better care of their bodies and to use the earth‟s resources more efficiently. As this u nderstanding spreads, more people may realize that to help the environment and for the human race to survive, more of us will need to become vegetarians.60. The underlined word “it” in Para.3 refers to ___________.A. methane gasB. carbon dioxideC. expelling windD. greenhouse gas61. Many figures are used in Para.4 to show ___________.A. growing tomatoes has the highest productionB. crop production is better than meat productionC. meat production consumes too much water and landD. farm animals are the main producer of the methane gas62. What message does the passage want to convey/A. Our diet is destroying the surroundings.B. Raising farm animals affects the environment.C. A vegetarian diet helps to protect the environmentD. More and more people are becoming strict vegetarians.CFor millions of Facebook users, choosing which photo to use for an online profile is an important decision. According to a study by researchers at the UT Dallas Center, the photos we select may reflect individual preferences, but they also appear to reflect more deeply rooted, unconscious cultural differences. Previous research has shown that culture can affect not only language and custom, but also how we experience the world and process information, western cultures, for example, condition people to think of themselves as highly independent entities (实体),whereas East Asian cultures stress collectivism and interdependence.Dr. Denise Park, co-director of the Center at UT Dallas, and former graduate student Dr. Chih-Mao Huang of the University of Illinois, were the curious about whether these patterns of cultural influence extend to cyberspace. In a paper published in the International Journal of Psychology, they examined the profile photographs of more than 500 active Facebook users from the United States and East Asia. Overall, they found that profile photos of Americans are more likely to focus on the individual‟s face, while the profiles of East Asians tend to less emphasize the face and include more background features. Americans also show greater smile intensity compared to East Asian Facebook users. The finding s show marked cultural differences in focus of attention among East Asian and American Facebook users. Moreover, they echo previous research on cultural influences on visual perception(感知),attention, and reasoning in the offline world.“We believe these findings relate to a cultural bias to be more individualistic and independent in the US and more communal and interdependent in Asia,” said Park. The research also found that cultural influences over our self-presentation online can shift over time and from place to place. In one of the study samples, Americans studying in Japan and Japanese studying in the US both showed a tendency to adjust their profile photos to the general preferences of their host country.“Facebook constitutes an extended social context in which personal profiles mirror various individual characteristics, private thoughts, and social behaviors,” noted Huang. “As such, the study presents a new approach to investigate cognition and behaviors across cultures by using Facebook as a data collection platform.”63. The underlined word “condition” in the first paragraph probably means ___________.A. adviseB. instructC. shapeD. forbid64. It can be inferred that a Korean studying in the US is likely to ___________.A. use a picture of his face on FacebookB. adjust to American preferences quicklyC. change his profile photos from time to timeD. put up a photo of his apartment on Facebook66. According to Dr. Huang, Facebook can help to ______________.A. make up a more extended social contextB. study the diversity of worldwide culturesC. promote communication between east and westD. combine different cultures form different aspectsDDo you want to love what you do for a living? Follow your passion. This piece of advice provides the foundation for modern thinking on career satisfaction. But this can be a problem.I‟ve spent the past several years researching and writing about the different strategies we use to seek happiness in our work. It became clear early in the process that the suggestion to “follow your passion” was flawed, for it lacks scientific evidence. However, it doesn‟t mean you should abandon the goal of feeling passionate about your work. The reality emphasizes that things arequite complicated.Passion is earned. Different people are looking for different things in their work, but generally, people with satisfying careers enjoy some combination of the following features: autonomy, respect, competence, creativity, and a sense of impact. In other words, if you want to feel passionate about your livelihood, don‟t seek the perfect job, but seek to get more of these features in the job you already have.Passion is elusive(难捉摸的). Many people develop the rare and valuable skills leading to passion, but still end up unhappy in their work. The problem is that the features leading you to love your work are more likely to be useful to you than your organization. As you become increasingly “valuable”, for example, your boss might push yo u toward traditional promotions that come with more pay and more responsibility, as this is what is most useful to your company. However, you might find more passion by applying your value to gain autonomy in your schedule or project selection.Passion is dangerous. I‟ve watched too many of my peers fall into anxiety and chronic job-hopping due to the “follow your passion” advice. The issue is expectations. If you believe we all have a pre-existing passion, and that matching it to a job will lead to instant workplace happiness, reality will always pale in comparison.Work is hard. Not every day is fun. If you‟re seeking a dream job, you‟ll end up frustrated, again and again. Don‟t set out to discover passion. Instead, set out to develop it. This path might b e longer and more complicated than what most cheerful career guides might advocate, but it‟s a path much more likely to lead you somewhere worth going.67. People satisfied with their careers are ____________.A. autonomous and passionateB. creative and competentC. respectable and sensitiveD. creative and passionate68. What is the author‟s advice on achieving career satisfaction?A. Developing passion for what one is doing.B. Matching the pre-existing passion to one‟s workC. Figuring out early what one will do in the future.D. Discovering skills that lead to interesting careers.69. The underlined sentence in Para. 5 probably means that ____________.A. it is not easy to match our passion with our jobsB. we shouldn‟t think everyone has a pre-existing passionC. high expectations of passion in fobs bring disappointmentD. workplace happiness does not require a pre-existing passion70. What‟s the author‟s attitude towards the advice of “following your passion”?A. AmbiguousB. SupportiveC. CautiousD. His mother had been sad in recent days, not sick, just strangely sad. The lion had just lain down beside him, his head warm on Bertie's feet, when Father cleared his throat and began, "You'll soon be eight, Bertie. A boy needs a proper education. We've found the right place for you, a school near Salisbury in England."His heart filled with a terrible fear, all Bertie could think of was his white lion. "But the lion, " he cried, "What about the lion? ""I'm afraid there's something else I have to tell you, " his father said. Looking across at Bertie's mother, he took a deep breath. Then he told Bertie he had met a circus owner from France, who was over in Africa looking for lions to buy. He would come to their farm in a few days."No! You can't send him to a circus!" said Bertie. "People will come to see him. He'll be shut up behind bars. I promised him he never would be. And they will laugh at him. He'd rather die. But too much light at other times may actually cause such mood disorders. Long-lasting exposure to light at night brings depression, a new study finds, at least in animals. The new data confirm observations from studies of people who work night shifts, says Richard Stevens of the University of Connecticut Health Center. Mood disorders join a growing list of problems, including cancer, obesity and diabetes—that can occur when light throws life out of balance by disturbing the biological clock and its timing of daily rhythms. In the new study, Tracy Bedrosian and Randy Nelson of Ohio State University exposed mice to normal light and dark cycles for four weeks. For the next four weeks, half of the mice remained on this schedule, and the rest received continuous dim light throughout their night. Compared with mice exposed to normal nighttime darkness, those getting dim light at night lost their strong preference for sweet drinks, "a sign they no longer get pleasure out of activities they once enjoyed, "Bedrosian says.In a second test, mice were clocked on how long they actively tried to escape a pool of water. Those exposed to night lights stopped struggling and just floated in the water, a sign of "behavioral despair", 10 times as long as the mice that had experienced normal nighttime darkness. All symptoms of depression disappeared within two weeks of the mice returning to a normal light-dark cycle, the researchers report. The scientists also could TAL#NBSP quash the behavioral symptoms by injecting(注射)the brains of animals with a drug that prohibits the activity of certain molecules linked with human depression. This finding further suggests that light at night may cause something related to depression.Human studies linking nighttime light and mood disorders are important but can't easily detect molecular underpinnings(分子基础)as animal studies can, says George Brainard of Thomas JeffersonUniversity. The new work, he says, suggests that the change of the biological clock by light at night can be "an extremely powerful force in regulating biology and behavior."(1) After being exposed to continuous nighttime light, the mice.A. changed theirpreferencesB. escapedfrom the water more eagerlyC. remained active as beforeD. showed less interest intheir favorites(2) What does the underlined word "quash"in Para. 4 probably mean?A. studyB. predictC. easeD. cause(3) We can learn from the last paragraph that.A. light at night may have practical valueB. the biological clock is beneficial to humansC. human mood disorders cannot be healed easilyD. human studies are more important than animalstudies(4) What is the main idea of the passage?A. They have been amazingly successfuland are widely imitated, if not copied. The minute Apple launches a product, everyone knows how to compete. This idea that the basis of competition is set by Apple and then the race is on to climb the path of improvement is unquestionable. When Apple releases a product that defines a category or dramatically changes the structure of an industry, it becomes obvious what needs to be built. But what I wonder is why everyone wants to copy Apple's products but nobody wants to copy being Apple?I can think of two reasons. Firstly, Apple is not worth copying because it's not successful; secondly, Apple's success cannot be copied because it is a magical process. There is a great deal of evidence for the first assumption. The idea of Apple being successful is not something reflected in its stock price. Being valued lower than the average company in the S&P(标准普尔)500 indicates that to whatever degree Apple was successful in the past, and it's not seen by the vast majority of observers as successful in the future. Why should one bother copying Apple if it results in being punished with a low valuation? If one works really hard at innovation(革新)and then that innovation becomes commoditized(商品化)very quickly, why should one bother? When innovation practitioners are asked what makes Apple successful, the answers regarding the cause of this success border on the mythical. The fabulous part of this assumption is the "chief-sorcerer" theory of success which places one magician, like Steve Jobs, in charge of casting all the right spells. What about Apple's own opinion of what makes it tick? Tim Cook refers to a great team and integration(一体)of hardware, software and services as unique Apple advantages. It's a better explanation. Integration is something that can take a long time, but it is possible with great effort. A few companies are starting to make moves in that direction, but efforts are half-hearted. There is no "move the Earth" feeling to become an integrated company from Samsung, Google or Microsoft. My own suspicion is that Apple is more aware of what makes it special than it lets out. However, as Tim points out, it's not a formula. It's complex, it's subtle, but it's not magic. It's a process that requires a degree of faith and courage.(1) When a new product of Apple comes out, often it.A. ruins an industry dramaticallyB. starts a revolution of an industryC. puts itself in an unbeatable positionD. is soon overtaken by imitated products(2) According to the passage, other companies don't "copy being Apple"because.A. Apple is not a successful companyB. it's hard to find a powerful magicianC. they have no access to relevant resourcesD. being Apple takes more than time and efforts(3) We can infer from Para. 5 that.A. other companies are dedicated to integrationB. Apple itself is fully aware of its unique advantagesC. Apple will hold the leading position in this industryD. other companies don't have an extraordinary team as Apple does(4) What does the author think of Tim Cook's statement?A. Convincing.B. Disappointing.C. Unquestionable.D. Acceptable.四、七选五20、【来源】 2013年北京海淀区高三一模第20题2015~2016学年北京西城区北京市第一五九中学高三上学期月考第46题ApathyApathy is a state of lacking interest, enthusiasm or concern.1They may also exhibit unfeelingness. Christians have condemned apathy as a lack of love and devotion to God and His works.2Also meaning "absence of passion" in Greek, the term "apatheia" was used by the Stoics(禁欲主义者)to show a desirable state of indifference towards events and things which lie outside one's control. The modern concept of apathy became well known after World War I, when it was called "shell shock." Soldiers, living in the trenches among the bombing and gun fires, saw the battlefields filled with dead and wounded companions.3In 1950, U.S. novelist Passos wrote "Apathy is one of the characteristic responses of any living being when it is subjected to something too tense or too complicated to deal with. " U.S. philosopher Robert M Hutchins summarizes the concerns about political indifference. He claims that the death of democracy is not likely to be a sudden murder from ambush(埋伏).4There may be other things contributing to a person's apathy. Activist Dave Meslin argues that apathy is often the result of social systems actively blocking engagement and involvement. He describes various barriers that prevent people from knowing how or why they might get involved insomething.5These include: political media that make it difficult for potentially interested people to find relevant information, and media descriptions of heroes as "chosen"by outside forces rather than self-motivated. He suggests that we redefine social apathy as a result of poorly designed systems that fail to invite others to participate.A. It will be a slow process of fading away from apathy and indifference.B. Apathetic people may lack a sense of purpose or meaning in their life.C. The word "dispassion" is used for "apatheia" , so as not to confuse it with apathy.D.
