In a small town located in the mountains, there was a young boy named Owen. He was crazy about basketball more than anything else in the world. He would spend hours every day practicing his dribbling(运球), shooting and passing. He dreamed of one day winning games on a team.Owen’s town had a small basketball court that was often empty. Owen would go there every day after school to practice. One day, as he was shooting hoops (投篮), he heard a voice behind him, "Hey, kid! You’re pretty good!”Owen turned around to see a tall man with a friendly smile. The man introduced himself as Coach Johnson and asked Owen if he wanted to join his basketball team. The team was made up of kids from all over the town, and they practiced every day after school.Owen was overjoyed because he had never played on a team before. He wanted to start and win games. Owen quickly became the star player of the team. However, the team never won a game. "I had trained so hard and performed excellently, but we were always losing! Jack should have run much faster towards me and Kris should have passed the ball to me!" Owen kept plaining to the coach. The plaint seemed understandable! Owen was admired by his teammates because he was fast and had incredible shots. However, Johnson knew Owen lacked something important. He told Owen to learn to play with his teammates as a team instead of just focusing on himself. Owen didn’t quite understand that at first and insisted he just needed to practice harder to win games. However, disaster struck. Owen injured his ankle one day and had to sit out for several weeks, which let him fall into anxiety. He felt his dream was slipping away.During his recovery at home, Owen refused to see anyone on the team, except his coach. Johnson handed Owen a phone downloaded with some videos about the best basketball teams and some cards from Owen’s teammates.
The Magic of NatureIn the vast expanse of nature, there is an invisible force that binds us all together. It is a force that whispers through the rustling leaves, dances in the glistening sunbeams, and whispers secrets in the stillness of the night. This force is the magic of nature, a phenomenon that we, as human beings, are constantly in awe of.One of the most captivating aspects of nature's magic is its diversity. From the towering mountains that scrape the sky to the vast oceans that stretch as far as the eye can see, nature showcases its grandeur in infinite forms. The roaring of the lions, the chirping of the birds, and the rustling of the leaves all create a symphony that is both harmonious and enchanting. But nature's magic is not just about grandeur and beauty; it is also about balance and harmony. In the wild, every creature has a role to play, whether it's a predator stalking its prey or a herbivore grazing peacefully in ameadow. Even the smallest insect plays a crucial part in maintaining the ecological balance. As human beings, we often forget that we are also a part of this intricate web of life. We tend to view nature as something separate from us, something to be exploited and dominated. But the truth is, we are deeply connected to nature, and our actions, whether conscious or unconscious, have a profound impact on it.It is this realization that has led many people to embark on a journey of discovery, seeking to understand and appreciate the magic of nature. They hike through dense forests, paddle through serene lakes, and scale towering mountains, all in the hope of experiencing nature's wonders up close and personal. And indeed, there is no better way to appreciate the magic of nature than to immerse oneself in it. To feel the warm sun on one's skin, to smell the fresh air, to hear the sounds of the wild - these are experiences that cannot be replicated in any other setting. But it is not just about personal experiences; it is also about understanding our role in nature and ourresponsibility to protect it. As the guardians of this planet, we have a duty to ensure that the magic of natureis preserved for future generations. In conclusion, the magic of nature is a phenomenon that is both awe-inspiring and humbling. It is a force that binds us all together and reminds us of our place in the universe. As we continue to explore and appreciate the wonders of nature, let us also remember our responsibility to protect it, so that its magic may continue to inspire and enchant us for generations to come.**自然的魔力**在广袤无垠的大自然中,有一种无形的力量将我们所有人紧紧联系在一起。

Kyrie Irving is a professional basketball player who has made a significant impact on the sport. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Irving grew up in the United States and has become one of the most talented and influential players in the NBA. His skill, leadership, and dedication to the game have earned him a reputation as one of the best point guards in the league.Irving's basketball journey began at a young age. He grew up in a military family and spent much of his childhood moving around the country. Despite the challenges of constantly changing schools and environments, Irving found solace in the game of basketball. He quickly developed a passion for the sport and began honing his skills, spending countless hours practicing and perfecting his craft. As he progressed through high school, Irving's talent and potential became increasingly evident. He attended powerhouse basketball programs such as St. Patrick High School in New Jersey and Montrose Christian School in Maryland, where he continued to showcase his exceptional abilities. His impressive performances onthe court caught the attention of college recruiters, and he ultimately decided to attend Duke University. At Duke, Irving's star continued to rise. He quickly emerged as one of the team's most valuable players, leading the Blue Devils to a NCAA championship in his freshman year. His impressive performances on the court, combined with his exceptional leadership skills, made him a highly sought-after prospect in the NBA draft. In 2011, Irving was selected as the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. This was the beginning of his professional career, and he wasted no time in making an impact on the league. From the moment he stepped onto the court, Irving demonstrated his exceptional skills and proved himself to be a true game-changer.One of the defining moments of Irving's career came in 2016 when he played a crucial role in helping the Cavaliers win their first NBA championship. In the finals against the Golden State Warriors, Irving hit a clutch three-pointer in the closing seconds of Game 7, leading the Cavaliers to victory and ending the city of Cleveland's long drought without a championship. This historic achievement cemented Irving's legacy as one of the greatest players of his generation. His ability to perform under pressure, make crucial plays, and lead his team to victory has earnedhim the respect and admiration of fans and fellow players alike.Beyond his on-court accomplishments, Irving has also been recognized for his off-court contributions. He has been an outspoken advocate for social justice and has used his platform to raise awareness about important issues affecting the African American community. His commitment to using his voice and influence to make a positive impact has further solidified his status as a role model and leader in the NBA.Despite his many successes, Irving's career has not been without its challenges. He has faced criticism and scrutiny for some of his controversial statements and actions, such as his belief in the flat earth theory and his refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, Irving has remained steadfast in his convictions and has continued to use his platform to express his views and beliefs. In recent years, Irving's career has taken some unexpected turns. In 2017, he requested a trade from the Cavaliers, citing a desire to be the primary focus of a team and to have a more significant role in decision-making. This move led to his trade to the Boston Celtics, where he continued to showcase his exceptional skills and leadership abilities. However, Irving's tenure with the Celtics was not without itschallenges. He faced criticism for his perceived lack of leadership and his inability to lead the team to the level of success that was expected of them. This led to his eventual departure from the Celtics and his signing with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019.At the Nets, Irving has continued to demonstrate his exceptional talent and has emerged as one of the team's most valuable players. He has formed a formidable partnership with fellow superstar Kevin Durant, and together they have led the Nets to new heights of success.Despite the ups and downs of his career, Irving's legacy as one of the greatest players of his generation is secure. His exceptional skills, leadership abilities, and commitment to using his platform for positive change have earned him the respect and admiration of fans and fellow players alike. As he continues to write the next chapter of his career, it is clear that Kyrie Irving's impact on the game of basketball will be felt for years to come. His story is one of perseverance, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness, and it serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and fans alike.。

4:Unit 5 First aid
阅读理解A(2016·陕西省质量检测二)I’ve always had strong opinions of howlove should be expressed. What I remember most about visiting myboyfriend’s parents is the loud tick of the clock as we silently ate ourmeal. I was quick to regard his family as cold. However, once, when wewere about to drive home, my boyfriend’s father appeared and began to wash the windshield I could sense that his dad was a caring man.I learned another lesson about love later. My father often telephoned me early in the morning. “Buy Xerox. It’s a good share price,”he would say when I answered the phone. My dad offered no pleasant greeting or inquiry (询问) about my life. This angered me and we often quarreled. But one day, I thought about my father’s success and realized his concern for my financial security showed how much he loved me. The next time he called and told me to buy a stock (股票), I thanked him.The way I treat my friends is sometimes different from how they treat me. For example, I always return phone calls without delay and regularly check in with old friends. I had one friend who rarely called, responding to my messages with short emails. “She isn’t a good friend!”I thought. My anger grew as the holidays approached. Then she came to a gathering I hosted and handed me a beautiful dress I had fallen in love with when we last went window-shopping. I was shocked at her kindness, and felt bad for thinking her uncaring. Clearly I needed to change my expectations.Far too often, I ignore unique expressions, eagerly expecting people to do things my way. This has left me feeling unloved. Over the years, however, I have learned to read others’love signs better and get along well with them.1.The writer finally realized that her father ________.A.wasn’t a pleasant personB.was caring about herC.was successful in financeD.was dissatisfied with her2.How many examples has the writer given to show the lessons she has learned on love?A.Three. This causes the body’s necessary functions to stop working. It’s usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person’s body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.Call for helpCall to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted (昏倒). Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you’re in a public place. If there’s no one around, call someone nearby if they can get theresooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn’t much nearby.Get the person to a cooler areaIf there’s a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn’t available, bring the person to a wellshaded area.Get the water flowingIf the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there’s a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person’s body. Focus on the face, neck, and chest.Fan the personGetting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt, your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.5.When does a person get sunstroke?A.When the body doesn’t function.B.When proper care is given immediately.C.When someone is exposed to the sun too long.D.When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear.6.What is mainly discussed in the passage?A.The first aid for sunstroke.B.The causes of sunstroke.C.The chief symptoms of sunstroke.D.The essential prevention of sunstroke.7.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text?A.Call for assistance from others.B.Leave the sunstroke person in the shade.C.Put a wet towel on the person’s face.D.Help the person take some medicine.8.The text probably comes from________.A.a guidebook B.a book reviewC.a medical magazine D.an official documentC(2016·东城区综合练习二)Small seating in the economyclass(经济舱) sections of airplanes is not just uncomfortable butpotentially lifethreatening. Space has become so tight thatpassengers cannot protect themselves in the event of a crash.A report on a long distance flight from the doctors of Vienna stated that only 10% in economy class could adopt the recommended brace position on the plane’s safety tips in case of emergency, and they were the smallest of the group. And 30% of their fellow passengers traveling in first class could adopt the position, which is internationally recognized as improving the chances of survival in the event of a crash. The authors of the report are now calling for greater space between seat rows to increase safety.A spokesman for British Airways (BA), which is responsible for safety on all British planes, opposed the idea that small seating was a threat (威胁) to passengers. “We don’t think it is a safety matter,”he said, “We have high safety standards and all UK aircraft meet them.” In the past month, both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic introduced sleeper seats, stressing the outstanding comfort in the front of the planes. But that space gained is space lost in economy.Until recently, economy class was at least “bearable” — with an 86centimeter seat. Scheduled Airlines such as BA and KLM gave passengers enough leg room and comfortable seats. But the arrival of new, weight-saving seats caused economy class to take a turn for the worse. Extra rows have been put into the plane, with the result that the average seat now is 79 centimetres. Singapore Airlines has become the latest carrier to narrow down its seats. It announced free wine for economy passengers last September, but at the same time reduced leg room by 8 centimetres.Economy class on Scheduled Airlines is now often little better than economy on Qatar Airways. Some Qatar Airways even offer the chance to upgrade — at a price — to seats which, at 89-91 centimetres, are roomier than those of most Scheduled Airlines.9.What can we learn from the passage?A.Scheduled Airlines produced new comfortable seats for economy class.B.Doctors from Vienna said less space between seats could cause danger.C.Spokesman for BA declared that narrow seat space was a threat.D.Qatar Airways offered larger seats with no more charge.10.What might be the author’s attitude towards reducing the space of economy seats?A.Neutral. B.Sceptical.C.Supportive. D.Disapproving.11.Where does the passage most probably come from?A.A biography. B.A book review.C.A magazine. D.A realistic novel.D(2016·衡水一中高三模拟)In a computer age, a broadband Internetconnection is very popular now. Whether cable or mobile broadband, today’s connections are many times faster than those in the early days.Videos play smoothly, complex websites load quickly, and files downloadmuch faster than ten years ago. And the files are much bigger too. There’s a hidden problem: you have to live near enough to a major city to get broadband Internet. If you don’t, it’s slow dialup access for you. And for those living really far away, there may be no Internet access at all.Technology experts often talk about the “last mile” problem, which refers to the difficulty of bringing Internet access to remote locations. In cities and suburbs (郊区), it’s relatively easy to provide access for everyone. It is much more difficult to deliver access to those living far from cities, especially in developing countries. Internet service providers, for their part, have been reluctant to provide access to sparsely (稀疏地) populated areas. The handful of Internet users they would reach wouldn’t cover the expense. But every year, technological advancements allow of more and more Internet users. Most broadband connections today run over existing cable TV and telephone lines although these technologies aren’t available everywhere. Some companies have delivered the Internet over standard power lines. Advancements in cheaper and more efficient fiberoptic cables (光缆) promise to bring extremely fast Internet connections to more users. Still, the “last mile” proble m remains hard to deal with. There will always be somewhere that doesn’t have an affordable broadband connection. But someday thatmight not matter. If the rapid progress in cellphone technology has any indication, it may not be too long before an Internet connection simply follows you wherever you go.12.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.Internet connections have been popular everywhere.B.Internet service providers are willing to care about rural customers.C.The problem of Internet access hasn’t been completely dealt with.D.Computers can’t become popular in developing countries.13.Paragraph 4 mainly tells us that technological advancements ________.A.make TV and telephone available everywhereB.bring great change to people’s everyday lifeC.bring faster Internet connections to usersD.make it possible for more people to use the Internet14.What may eventually settle the “last mile” problem?A.The broadband connection’s getting faster.B.The rapid progress in cellphone technology.C.More and more Internet connections.D.More and more Internet users.15.The best title for this passage may be “________”.A.Internet Connection ProblemsB.Internet Connections Need ImprovingC.Progress in Internet ConnectionsD.Internet Connections TodayⅡ.阅读七选五(2016·河南省普通毕业班适应性练习)It’s a proven fact that the way in which we remember things changes as we get older. Outside my kitchen window, there are people all over the place. We had lived in this house for a year and I knew everyone on the block, except Mrs. Miller, the old woman who lived by herself two doors down. She almost never left the house .I thought it was time to get to know her. I carried my baby and set out to meet the neighbor. As I came to her house, Mrs. Miller's black dog looked at me. The dog was old, but she was always standing guard. I thought at least Mrs. Miller had someone to look after her. She needed more than a dog to rely on. I knocked on the front door .“Come in! "Mrs. Miller said when she saw us, feeling a little surprised. "Have a seat here in the living room. "I had only just sat down when her phone rang. Mrs. Miller received two phone calls .When she answered and came back, she said, I' m sorry, dear. It's just the neighbors calling to check in. Susan on the street was asking if she could pick up my groceries(食品杂货)The boys next door offered to take care of my garden “ How nice it is," I thought.“ Do you have children?"I asked."No. It was just Mr. Miller and myself, until he passed away. ”“I' m so sorry, “I said."You must have family. She said, “Oh, there’ s a nurse who usually comes to check on my health. Then her face became serious. She added, " Margo used to pick up my medicine every Monday. Mrs. Miller was glad about it In the coming months, I made Mrs. Miller my part-time project. I knew more about her, and also the other neighbors who helped her. There were the kids who cleaned her garden, the lady who came to cook and the girl who walked the dog. The stream of help never stopped. Not once did I see Mrs. Miller have to ask for a favor.Paragraph 2 When Christmas arrived, I decided to help Mrs. Miller prepare for the festival. So one morning I knocked on her door. " Merry Christmas! Mrs. Miller said when she let me in.I was surprised that her house had been decorated with lights and presents. "We'd like to invite you to our Christmas dinner, "I told her. "I wish I could come, "Mrs. Miller said.“ But I already promised one of the other neighbors I'd go there. Chapter 5, Q1:
Etruscans and Greeks left a great influence on the development of Rome. On one hand, The Etruscans influence most of the initial development of Rome. By transforming villages into towns and cities, they brought urbanization to Rome. Thus, Un der Etruscan’s influence, Rome began to change from a pastoral community to an actual city. The Etruscans were responsible for an outstanding building program. On the other hand, the Greeks ultimately had an considerable influence on Rome. They taught the Romans to cultivate olives and grapes, passed on their alphabetic system of writing, and provided artistic and cultural models through their sculpture, architecture and literature. What’s more, the Romans governed their empire by carrying the Greeks’ law, political institutions, engineering skills, and their Latin language.
Chapter5, Q2:
Romans’ success was due to its practical approach and fashioned political institutions. When firstly conquered Italy, Romans had the consuls and praetors to govern it. Also, they devised the Roman confederation, which allowed some people to have full Roman citizenship, giving conquered people a stake in Rome’s success. In Early Rome, the plebeians struggled for their political and social
equality because of the division. Therefore, the Romans opened the consulship to the plebeians. As Rome expanded into the Mediterranean, they devised a new system. They also had administrative officials with specialized duties. Moreover, the Roman government was made up of the executive officials, the assembly and the senate. Besides, the Roman expanded their citizenship and allowed autonomy in domestic affairs.
In a word, that the Roman pursued consistent policies and its inclusiveness helped explain the Romans’ success in conquering fir st Italy and then the Mediterranean world.
Chapter6, Q1:
Great change took place during the late Republic. In politics, the basic government structure consisted of the prances and an aristocratic senate and held the office of consul each year until 23BC. When it came to the military, Augustus maintained a standing army of twenty-eight legions, a large contingent of auxiliary force as well as established the Praetorian Guard. Besides, as for social institution, he proposed laws and veto any item of public business. Moreover, certain provinces were allotted to the prances and society was characterized by a system of social stratification, in which Roman citizens were divided into three basic classes: the senatorial class,
equestrian class, and lower one.
Chapter6, Q2:
In general, the Roman Empire was one of the greatest states the world had seen. To begin with, it had a large population of Han China. Besides, the privileges of Roman citizenship were extended to many people throughout the empire and even finally every free inhabitant in 212. In addition, the administration and cultural life of the Roman Empire depended greatly on cities and towns.
