Look at the picture and read the sentences. Then answer the questions below.

Verbs are words that show actions. Words like be, have, and do are also verbs. Every complete sentence must have a verb.
You use verbs in the simple present tense to talk about facts and about habits and routines.
Study the examples below.
FACTS
(Things that are always true.)
The sun rises in the east.
I like ice cream.
You are very tall.
Mr. Chan wears glasses.
HABITS AND ROUTINES
(Things people do regularly.)
We study Geography on Wednesday.
Sam watches TV every night.
You use the base form of a verb when you give
an order. You should add please if you want to be polite!

Be careful when you use the third person singular (he, she, it, John, Miss Chan, etc.) with a Subjects Verb phrases

Look at the table below. It shows you how to spell verbs in the third person singular.
Spelling rules Examples
Whit most verbs + s ask → asks
buy → buys Sally buys many books enjoy → enjoys She enjoys reading. give→ gives
With verbs ending in a consonant+y-y+ies carry→ carries
fly→ flies Mr Chan flies to China study → studies He studies Chinese history. try→ tries
With verbs ending in ss, x, sh, ch+es dress→ dresses
fax→ faxes Miss Li faxes her boss. rush→ rushes She rushes to work. watch→ watches
With verbs like can, will, should, must, etc, you do not add-s or-es.
