Not long ago, I was at a state conference (会议) with a group preparing for a week of meetings. I walked into the room where a handful of volunteers were busy collating (装订整理) handouts. I asked if I could help. One of the ladies politely said “Oh, no, thank you” and offered me a chair to just sit while they worked.
Then, another volunteer came into the room, saw me sitting there doing nothing and said: “Hey, Larry, come on over here. There’s work to do, and you can help.” He put a couple of chairs together, placed two stacks of handouts on them and instructed: “OK, the left sheet goes on top of the right one.” “Fine. I can handle that,”
I said. And just like that, I was now part of the team. This member of the group saw that my disability did not mean an inability to help. Later, I thanked him for having included me, and asked what motivated his action. He said: “Well, I figured with one more set of hands we’d finish more quickly. I was just using common sense.”
I’m sure that the kind folks who initially (最初) turned down my offer of help did not mean to offend (冒犯) me. It just seemed more appropriate to them to say “No, thank you” than to stop their work and try and figure out how to include me. And that’s the real issue here. Too often, people with disabilities are excluded –within their community or within a social setting – because of their disability and not because of their inability.
It’s important for all of us to feel part of the group and to feel that we belong. It’s important to our self-esteem (自尊). And it is even more important for people with disabilities. Inclusion means we are accepted, appreciated and valued as a full and equal member of the group. It sends a message that states: “To us, your abilities ar e more important than your disability.”

B. updated
C. put out
D. produced
27. The author wrote the passage in order to show________

B. disabled people do not necessarily lack the abilities to do things.
C. He was more diligent than other disabled people.
D. Disabled people should be respected

An increasing number of people are being allowed to finish the working week early during the summer months. Does your boss trust you to spend an afternoon in the sun?
Each year the number of companies which offer employees the choice of an early finish to the working week grows. Or, perhaps, each year, more people who work on ordinary Fridays hear about people playing on summer Fridays.
When the sun is shining, it makes sense that you should be given Friday afternoons off, right? Sadly, not all managers agree with the policy.
Companies that offer employees Friday afternoons off usually expect the hours to be made up. UK publishers Pan Macmillan and Penguin Random House (PRH) are among those offering summer hours. At PRH, those who wish to take off Friday afternoons are expected to work an extra 45 minutes a day from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays,
a rota(值班表)ensures each team has been covered. "Most of us don’t leave at exactly
1 p.m.," Editor Anderson says. "Depending on your workload, you might just leave an hour or so early, but it’s still nice to do."
Simon Hayward, CEO of Cirrus, says that the "Summer Fridays" policy requires trust, and that managers need to be seen to take advantage of the offer too. "If a manager offers summer Fridays and then obviously expects employees to work on Friday afternoons, there is a risk associated with it that reduces the sense of well-being(幸福).I think there’s a genuine fear in some organizations about flexible working hours. Do you trust your employees to do their best for the business as well as for themselves and their families, or do you fundamentally mistrust them?"
Managers in the former camp tend to be comfortable with summer hours. Those in the latter worry that summer Fridays will lead to late Mondays and long-lunch Tuesdays.
28.What’s the good policy for some employees in summer?
A. They don’t work on Friday.
B. They have flexible working hours on Friday.
C. They can take Friday afternoons off.
D. They might leave an hour early on Friday afternoon.
ually in companies, this policy causes the employees to .
A. start work early on Friday mornings
B. actually work on Friday afternoons
C. have a short lunch on Tuesdays
D. work extra time from Monday to Thursday
30.What is Editor Anderson’s attitude towards the policy at PRH?
A. Supportive.
B. Opposed.
C. Neutral.
D. Indifferent.
31.What does the underlined part in the last paragraph refers to?
A. managers who trust their employees to do their best.
B. companies which can manage the employees well.
C. managers who mistrust employees.
D. companies which offer Friday afternoons off.

The African elephant, the largest land animal remaining on earth, is of great importance to African ecosystem(生态系统). Unlike other animals, the African elephant is to a great extent the builder of its environment. As a big plant-eater, it largely shapes the forest-and-savanna(大草原)surroundings in which it lives, therefore setting the terms of existence for millions of other animals that live in its habitat(栖息地).
It is the elephant's great desire for food that makes it a disturber of the environment and an important builder of its habitat. In its continuous search for the 300 pounds of plants it must have every day, it kills small trees and under bushes, and pulls branches off big trees. This results in numerous open spaces in both deep tropical forests and in the woodlands that cover part of the African savannas. In these open spaces are numerous plants in various stages of growth that attract a variety of other plant-eaters.
Take the rain forests for example. In their natural state, the spreading branches overhead shut out sunlight and prevent the growth of plants on the forest floor. By pulling down trees and eating plants, elephants make open spaces, allowing new plants to grow on the forest floor. In such situations, the forests become suitable for large hoofed plant-eaters to move around and for small plant-eaters to get their food as well.
What worries scientists now is that the African elephant has become an endangered species. If the elephant disappears, scientists say, many other animals will also disappear from vast areas of forest and savanna, greatly changing and worsening the whole ecosystem.
32. Which of the following statement is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A. The African elephant has become an endangered species
B. The elephant's great desire for food makes it a disturber of the environment
C. The forests become also suitable for small plant-eaters to get their food
D. The African elephant has destroyed conditions for millions of other animals
33. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Disappearance of African elephants.
B. Forests and savannas as habitats for African elephants.
C. The effect of African elephants' search for food.
D. The eating habit of African elephants.
34.What do we know about the open spaces in the passage?
A. They result from the destruction of rain forests.
B. They provide food mainly for African elephants.
C. They are home to many endangered animals.
D. They are attractive to plant-eating animals of different kinds.
35. The passage is developed mainly by _____.
A. describing the changes in space order
B. pointing out similarities and differences
C. showing the effect and then explaining the causes
D. giving examples

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入 1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Few people I know seem to have much desire or time to cook. Making Chinese dishes is seen as especially troublesome. Many (61)_dishes_ (western) who come to China cook much less than in (62) __it__(they) own countries once they realize(63)_dishes_ cheap it can be to eat out. I still remember (64) _visiting_ (visit) a friend who’d lived here for five years and I (65)_was shocked_ (shock) when I learnt she hadn’t cooked once in all that time.
While regularly eating out(66)_was shoc( seem) to have become common for many young people in recent years, it’s not without a cost. The obvious one is money: eating out once or twice a week may be (67)_affordable_(afford) but doing this most days adds up. There could be an even (68) _higher_(high) cost on your health. Researchers
have found that there is a direct link between the increase in food eaten outside the home and the rise in (69) _weight_(weigh) problems.
If you are not going to suffer this problem, then I suggest that the next time you go to your mum’s home (70) __for__ dinner, get a few cooking tips from her. Cooking food can be fun. You might also begin to notice the effects not only on your health but in your pocket.

With the development of science and technology, robots will be wide used in the future. In families, robots will help people do some houseworks and taking care of the elderly, babies and patients. In addition to these tasks, robots will even be able to play the chess and do exercise with people. In factories, robots will be used to perform some dangerous jobs to avoid accidents.
Robots will change our future life by many ways, what will make more colorful and comfortable. Therefore, we shouldn’t depend on robots too much, for they were made to help humans rather than replace us. As helpers of us humans, robots should be used properly.
