The office has always been a place to get ahead. Unfortunately, It is also a place where a lot of natural resources start to fall behind. Take a look around next time you’re at work。

See how many lights are left on when people leave. See how much paper is being wasted。

How much electricity is being used to run computers that are left on。

Look at how much water is being wasted in the rest—rooms. And how much solid waste is being thrown out in the rubbish cans. We bet it’s a lot。

Now, here are some simple ways you can produce less waste at work。

When you are at the copier, only make the copies you need. Use both sides of the paper when writing something less important. Turn off your lights when you leave. Use a
lower watt bulb in your lamp。

Drink your coffee or tea out of your mugs i nstead
of single—use cups. Set up a recycling box for cans and one for bottles。

And when you're in the bathroom brushing your teeth or washing your face, don't let the tap run. Remember, if we use fewer resources today,we’ll save more for tomorrow。

24。

A. the disadvantages of working in an office
B. the waste produced in an office

Money is stressful. For the seventh year in a row, the APA’s annual Stress in America survey found that money is the top source of stress for American adults. More than a quarter of Americans say they feel stressed about money most or all of the time。

Only 30 percent rate their financial security as high, and more than two-thirds believe that more money would make them happier.People commonly deal with anxiety by avoiding whatever it is that makes them anxious。

Unfortunately, if you avoid dealing with your finances, you'll likely create more financial problems, and more anxiety, in the long term。

Money matters are too important to ignore. Financial inability is linked to money mismanagement and to debt。

Debt, in turn, is associated with lower self—confidence, lower productivity and greater stress. Unsurprisingly, research has also linked financial pressure to desperation (绝望)。

We develop our beliefs and attitudes about money early in life。

Often, we aren’t even cons ciously aware of what our beliefs are, let alone where we learned them. If you’re dealing with financial avoidance or financial rejection, it can help to think critically about the money beliefs you learned in childhood。

Think about what your parents taught you about money。

Talk to family members about their money beliefs。

Then try to challenge your existing beliefs about money.
Many people feel embarrassed about the ir debt, ashamed that they let bank statements pile up unread. But that shame keeps you stuck。

Try to move past the self-blame so you can take some concrete steps toward financial health.
28. What do we learn about American adults from the text?
A。

Money causes them the main stress。

B. They care about money most。

C. They need m oney very much.
D。

Their financial security is high。

29。

What does the author think of avoiding financial stress? A。

It’s understandable. B。

It’s harmful。

C. It’s helpful。

D. It’s useless。

30。

According to the text, our money beliefs are developed from 。

A。

examples of family members B。

attitudes of neighborhood C. experiences of childhood D. influences of parents
31。

What can people do to get financial health according to the author?
A。

Repay their debt。

B. Read their bank statements.
C。

Overcome their self-blame。

D. Challenge existing money beliefs.
D
Technological change is everywhere and affects every aspect of life, mostly for the better. However, social changes brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes.
An example at hand is the involvement of parents in the lives of their children who are attending college。

Surveys (调查) on this topic suggests that parents today continue to be “very” or “somewhat" overly—protective even
after their children move into college dormitories。

The same surveys also indicate that the rate of parental involvement is greater today than it was a
generation ago. This is usually interpreted as a sign that today’s parents are trying to manage their c hildren’s lives past the point where this behavior is appropriate。

However, greater parental involvement does not necessarily indicate that parents are failing to let go of their “adult” children.
In the context (背景) of this discussion, it seems valuable to first find out the cause of change in the case of parents’ involvement with their grown children。

If parents of earlier generations had wanted to be in touch with their college-age children frequently, would this have been possible? Probably not。

On the other hand, does the possibility of frequent communication today mean that the urge to do so wasn't present a generation ago? Many studies show that older parents—today’s grandparents—would have called their children more often if the means and cost of doing so had not been a barrier。

Furthermore, studies show that finances are the most frequent subject of communication between parents and their college children. The fact that college students are financially dependent on their parents is nothing new;nor are requests for more money to be sent from home. This phenomenon is neither good nor bad; it is a fact of college life, today and in the past。

Thanks to the advanced technology, we live in an age of bettered communication。

This has many implications well beyond the role that parents seem to play in the lives of their children who have left for college。

But it is useful to bear in mind that all such changes come from the technology and not some imagined desire by parents to keep their children under their
wings.
32. The surveys inform us of______。

A. the development of technology
B. the changes of adult children's behavior C。

the parents’ over-protection of their college children D。

the means and expenses of students' communication33. The writer believes that__________。

A. parents today are more protective than those in the past
B。

the disadvantages of new technology outweigh its advantages
C。

technology explains greater involvement with their children
D. parents’ changed attitudes lead to college children’s delayed independenc e 34。

What is the best title for the passage?
A。

Technology or Attitude
B. Dependence or Independence
C。

Family Influences or Social Changes
D。

College Management or Communication Advancement
35。

Which of the following shows the development of ideas in this passage?
A. B。

C. D.
I: Introduction P:Point Sp: Sub—point C: Conclusion
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分l0分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项。

The office of the future will look quite different from the office of today. There will be big savings in space, because records will not to be kept on paper. Also, because things can be done at a much quicker pace, it’s likely that working hours will be much shorter. 36 Because a company needs less stuff
it can afford to pay workers more money。

37 Are you a secretary, clerk,or a receptionist? If you are, you should be worried by the changes that are going to take place. Because of information technology, your job may become unnecessary in the near future. You will certainly have to know more about using the computer。

38 Instead of doing just one of the three jobs mentioned above, it's likely that a person will have to do all three. Because of this, there's likely to be unemployment。

While bosses will benefit because they can employ less people, thousands of office workers will find themselves out of work. 39 They will be forced to learn new skills which require the use of the computer to survive。

There may be some good points to the changes for workers as well as employers however。

Government should benefit from IT and have more money to spend. Because of the increase in revenue(收入) caused by higher productivity, the government could afford to spend more on things such as social work, charities and culture.
40
A. However, not all the news is good。

B。

Salaries are also expected to increase.
C。

Even workers who can keep their jobs may have to suffer。

D. Their bosses will not want to employ them in a few years time.
E。

Travel companies need to adopt IT to be competitive and survive。

F。

Therefore, some who lose their office jobs may be able to work in these new areas。

G. And you will be expected to get a lot more information by using the computer than you did in the past

Then you can have lunch in the canteen.During lunch, Helen will be in her office to talk with you if any of you have problems。

Then, this afternoon you could either listen to a talk about London or you could do a conversation class if you have known London already。
