The Lion King is an animated Disney movie that came out in 1994, but I just watched it for the first time last year. As soon as the movie started, I was hooked!The story is about a young lion cub named Simba who is going to be the next king of the Pride Lands. His dad Mufasa is the current king. Simba's uncle Scar is very jealous and wants to be king instead of Simba. Scar hatches an evil plan to get rid of Mufasa and Simba so he can become king. It's so sad when Mufasa dies trying to save Simba from the wildebeest stampede that Scar causes. Poor Simba thinks it's his fault and runs away from the Pride Lands.While Simba is gone, Scar becomes the ruler and lets the hyenas take over, destroying the once beautiful Pride Lands. Simba grows up in the jungle living a carefree life with his new friends Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog. They teach him "Hakuna Matata" which means "no worries" in their language. Even though Simba is having fun, I was still hoping he would go back and defeat the evil Scar someday!Years go by until one day Simba's childhood friend Nala finds him and tells him he needs to take his rightful place as the true king. At first Simba doesn't want to because he is scared, but then the wise baboon Rafiki shows him that Mufasa is still alive –as a spirit watching over them. Mufasa tells Simba he must go back and Simba finally gets brave enough to go back and claim his kingdom.When Simba gets back to the Pride Lands and sees how horrible it looks under Scar's reign, he challenges Scar to a fight. There are some really intense and scary moments, like when Simba gets hung over the edge of a cliff! But in the end, Simba defeats Scar and restores peace and prosperity to the Pride Lands. He becomes the wise new king, just like his father Mufasa. The ending always makes me so happy!I love everything about The Lion King – the characters, the music, the comedic parts with Timon and Pumbaa, and the inspiring story about facing your fears and doing the right thing. My favorite characters are definitely the funny duo Timon and Pumbaa. They are so goofy and make me laugh a lot! I also love all the songs, especially "Hakuna Matata," "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," and "Circle of Life." The opening scene with "Circle of Life" playing still gives me chills every time!The animation is breathtaking too. The Pride Lands and the animals look so realistic and beautiful. I can't imagine how long it must have taken the animators to create such a masterpiece! Even though the movie is almost 30 years old now, the story and animation seem timeless to me.Overall, The Lion King is an instant classic in my book. I've probably watched it 20 times already and I never get tired of it.There are so many important life lessons tucked into the fun adventure story – about bravery, taking responsibility, the circle of life, and reforming the kingdom. What I love most though is how the movie stresses the importance of having good values, doing the right thing, and being a wise leader. I really look up to the brave and noble character of Simba!I highly recommend The Lion King to anybody who hasn't seen it yet. Just make sure to have some tissues handy because there are definitely some sad parts that will make you cry!
