Book2 Unit 4 Wildlife Protection
(1)Tom _____________(fire)because of his carelessness.解析:was fired.
(2)_____________(arrive)at the village, they began to work with the farmers.
(3)_____________(frighten)by the fire, the cat ran onto the top of the building.
The traditional belief is that a woman,s place is the home and that a woman ought not to go out to work after marriage. Now once again we hear such words.People 1 (hold)the view base their argument on the two assumptions.First, since jobs now are scarce and unemployment rates higher,if women 2 (return)to thekitchen, there would be more jobs available to men.Second, the majority of female workers earn little, only one fifth of their male counterparts, who may earn a little more if their wives stayed at home and 3 (devote)wholly to children and housework. But they fail to notice that 4 (deprive)of work, most women 5 (suffer)unspeakable boredom and misery. For most women, work is not only a means of 6 (earn)a living, but more important, the focus of their lives and the source of satisfaction, and the absence of work 7 (tend)to have a harmful effect on their psychological well-being.Furthermore, 8 (withdraw)from employment to complete domesticity means the loss of certain social status that women have now enjoyed after many years of struggle. It should 9 (recognize)that the current frequent occurrences ofbrutality, desertion and divorce are to some extent 10 (attribute)to the fact they have no say in the matter of finance.

The average length of an adult blue whale is 79 to 88 feet and the average weight is 130 to 150 tons. Blue whales prefer cold waters and open seas and prefer not to go near coastal areas; however, some whales have been seen off the coast of Peru. The blue whale mostly eats krill(磷虾). It can eat several tons of krill daily. Researchers once believed that the blue whale only eats in the summer, seldom eating during the rest ofthe year, but recent research has suggested that some blue whales in the north may eat all year round and that blue whales traveling with empty stomachs may stop eating during migration and begin feeding again in “wintering” areas.Over 350,000 whales have been hunted and killed, and by the 1960s, blue whales were on the edge of dying out. There are probably only around 2,500 blue whales left in the oceans now and they are legally protected despite opposition by the whaling industry.1.The blue whale is said to be the largest animals in the Earth’s history.2.Blue whales prefer warm waters and open seas and prefer not to go near coastal areas;3.The blue whale mostly feeds on krill and it can eat several tons of krill every two days.4.Blue whales traveling with empty stomachs may stop to eat during migration.5.Over 350,000 whales have been hunted and killed, and by the 1980s, blue whales were on the edge of dying out.6.The blue whales are legally protected despite opposition by the whaling industry. One day, Daisy______ a strange dream.
