FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION.Power Supply PP-3495 /UG (seefigure 6-2) operates from a 120-volt,50-or 60-cycle, single phase, a. c. source. TermiU:al board TB 1m ay be connected for an output voltage of 48 volts (see figure 2-2) or 120 volts(see figure 2-3).When switch S 1is in the ON position, input power is applied through radio frequency interference filter Z2, lighting POWER indicator DS 1. The negative half-cycle of the input voltage is pas s ed through diode CR 7and an input winding of the magnetic amplifierto the primary of Transformer T l. The positive half-cycle is passed by diode CR8 and the other input winding of the magnetic amplifier to the primary of transformer T 1. The magnetic amplifier provides voltage regulations asde scribed below. The voltage across the primary of transformer T 1is induced across the secondary which provides outputs of approximately 48 volts and 120 voltson pins 6 and 7, respectively. The voltage is stepped-down across the center-tapped secondary which provides two 9 -volt outputs. The centertapped secondary is a voltage supplyORIGINAL used to compensate for variationscaused by the 5o/o tolerance of the Zener diodes, CR l and CR2. The selected voltage (either 48 volts or 120 volts)is full-wave rectified by bridge rectifier CR3, CR4, CR5, and CR6. Fora 48-volt output, the rectified voltageis filtered by inductor L 1and capacitor C 1; resistor R4 is a bleeder. For a120-volt output, the rectified voltageis filtered by inductor L l and capacitors C2A and C2B; resistor R3 is a bleeder.Voltage regulation of plus or minus5o/o is achieved by varying the degreeof saturation of the magnetic amplifierto compensate for load and line variations. The bias winding of the magnetic amplifier (in series with resistor R2) biases the magnetic amplifier partially into saturation. The bias winding is energized through resistor R2. The control winding of the magnetic amplifier (in series with fuse F3) senses voltage variations in the output andvaries the voltage drop across the magnetic amplifier, thereby adjusting the voltage across the primary of transformer T l. The control windingis voltage referenced by voltage reference diodes CR 1and CR2 in serieswith potentiometer R5. PotentiometeR5 is adjusted until the desired output voltage is reached. Fuse F3 provides protection against short circuiting ofthe Zener diodes.4-1Paragr aph 5-1 NAVSH IPS 94503 PP-3495/UGTROUBLESHOOTINGSECTION 5TROUBLESHOOTING5-l. All failuresshall b e reported forthose equipments requiring Failure Reports. If d. c. output voltage is absent make the following checks:Observe power indicatinglight D S l for the presence of input power.b. Check blown fuse indicators for XF 1 and XF2. The neon lights in the knob sections of these fuseholders 5-0 will glow to indicate a blown fuse. Spare fuses will be found in clip holders inside the bottom cover.· Check the a. c. voltage at the input to the silicon bridge rectifier. This should read approximately 48 or 120 volts. If an abnormally iow voltage is indicated, an open condition may exist in transformer T 1, in magnetic amplifier Z 1, or in rectifiers CR7 or CR8.Check the d. c. voltage across the filter capacitors. This should read approximately 48 or 120 volts. If no d. c. voltage is indicated, check capacitors C 1, C2A and C2B where app.ticable for a possible shorted condition. Defective silicon rectifiers CR3, CR4, CR5, and CR6 will also cause the d. c. voltage to be low or absent.e. Excessive variations in thed. c. output voltage may be caused by defective Zener diodes CR 1 and CR2, magnetic amplifier Z 1, diodes CR 9 and CR lO, or resistors R l, R2, andR5. Check indicating fuseholder F3.It indicates fuse has blown, diodesCR 1 or CR2 may be shorted.ORIGINALPP-3495/UGREPAIRSECTION 6REPAIR6-1.

n Low-profile design provides a mated mounting height that is 25% shorter than a standard 5.00mm (.197”) pitch vertical plug/header mated pair n Positive-locking design requires a screwdriver to unmate the plug from the header ensuring a secure connection in vibration-prone applications and reduces the overall space required on the board by eliminating the need for traditional mounting ends
Features and Benefits
Bring up to 10 amps of power directly to the board while conserving PCB real estate The new 4.00mm (.157”) pitch positive-locking terminal block connection system from Molex takes our already popular and patented design to the next level. Modeled after our Eurostyle™ Series 39980, 5.08mm (.200”) pitch and Eurostyle Series 39990, 5.00mm (.197”) pitch products, this 4.00mm (.157”) pitch system performs exactly the same as its larger relatives but takes up less space on the board. With today’s trend towards miniaturization, this system allows customers to use up to 12 AWG wire to bring 10.0A of current directly to the board with a smaller pitch, conserving valuable PCB real estate without

sacrificing performance. The unique positive-locking feature requires a standard screwdriver to disengage the plug from the header. Once mated, the connection is secure even in vibration-prone applications. Molded from a glass-filled high temperature Polyamide 46, the PCB headers are ideal for applications that require reflow-solder capability. The positive-locking terminal block connection system is available in circuit sizes 2 through 12.
