M:Hello. I'm calling about the twobedroom apartment you advertised in the newspaper.
W:Sorry, but it is not available now. There is only a onebedroom apartment left. You can come and have a look at 3:00 pm today if you're interested.
(Text 3)
W:I'm sorry I'm so late. Something is wrong with my car, so I had to come by bus.
M:Why didn't you ask Linda for a lift? She drove here about half an hour ago.
(Text 4)
W:OK, John. How much do you pay for electricity and telephone services?
M:My electricity bill is about 30 dollars a month, and my telephone bill is usually 20 dollars more than that a month.
(Text 5)
W:Do you happen to know what's on after the news?
M:I think it's an old movie. But if you're not interested in it, you can watch the fashion show on Channel 6.
(Text 6)
W:What time do you usually have breakfast?
M:Around 7:00 am. But lately I've been having trouble getting up in the morning, so I've been eating breakfast at 8:00 am or 9:00 am.
W:When did you have breakfast today?
M:I got up very early today, so I had breakfast at 7:00 am as usual. What about you?
W:To be frank, I hardly ever have breakfast. This is a bad habit and I want to break it.
M:Surely you should.
(Text 7)
M:Good morning, may I help you?
W:Yes, I bought this dress here last week, but there seems to be something wrong with it. When I washed it, the colour faded.
M:Let me see. Did you wash it in hot water?
W:No. I just washed it using my washing machine with my other clothes. But the colours of my other clothes didn't fade.
M:So do you want to exchange it?
W:May I have it returned?
M:We can only return half of the money you paid to you if you want to return it.
W:Then I'd rather have it exchanged. Show me some other dresses, please.
(Text 8)
W:Did you go to Mary's birthday party last Friday?
M:I had planned to, but then my mother became ill. I had to take her to the hospital and take care of her. So I didn't go.

M:It wasn't serious. She took a good rest at home and now she is totally fine.
W:That's great. So have you finished your Christmas shopping?
M:Almost. I got a sweater for my brother and a warm coat for my mother. But I can't seem to find anything for my sister.

M:That's a good idea. Thank you so much.

One day Kavya and I were playing tennis and the ball went into a man's house.
Then we went to his house and asked if he could give us our ball. He said, “No〞. We felt helpless. But suddenly we came up with an idea. There was a water tank (水箱) behind the man's house. I told Kavya, “We can climb onto the water tank and jump over the gate.〞 Kavya agreed, but we were both wearing skirts. We couldn't climb in those. “We can get it back tomorrow,〞 said Kavya.
The next day we went there with Kavya's brother Vijay. He said, “Shout loudly if you need me.〞 Kavya climbed onto the water tank first and then she climbed down into the man's house. I followed her. We were looking under a bed for the ball when we heard a noise. It was Vijay. “Mother is calling you,〞 he said in a low voice.
We hurried out taking the lost ball with us. Along with the ball was a surprise! But we had to leave the house quickly. When we reached Kavya's house, the TV was on. It was news time. I couldn't believe my ears when it said that 20 gold bars were stolen from a gold shop. They showed a picture of the gold bars, which were exactly like the one we had seen in the man's house.
We told the story to Kavya's mother right away, and she called the police. Soon the police caught the man. They found all the gold bars in his house. A few days later a policeman came to us and said, “Thank you for helping us catch the guy. Here is a bag for all of you.〞 When we opened it, it was full of storybooks and lovely toys. When people are blind, navigating the world involves more than avoiding physical obstacles. Just as important is navigating your social relationships, which can be a challenge when you're not always sure who's around you. Researchers at Birmingham City University, in the UK, are attempting to solve that_issue with a new cane that will help the visually impaired recognize people from up to 32 feet away.
The researchers —Waheed Rafiq, Steve Adigbo, and
Richard Howlett — are creating the XploR, a “smart〞 cane
that's equipped with a camera, facial recognition software
and GPS. The camera, located just below the handle, has a 270degree lens for capturing as much of the user's environment as possible. The software built into the cane works based on a database of photos pulled from services like Gmail and Outlook, and people can add as many faces to the database as they want by taking photos with the cane's camera.
As soon as the camera notices a person, its software will begin scanning the face to see if there's a match. If the scanned image matches a portrait in the database, the corresponding name and location will be fed back to the cane carrier via a Bluetooth to send information.
Rafiq says the additional features, like GPS, will allow people with weak eyesight to know directions more easily. The same imagecapture technique could help the blind identify and move around common physical obstacles, too.
Although a cane is cheap, a hightech one could be expensive. The technology, whether made into a cane or another device, has potential to solve a real problem experienced by blind people, particularly at large social gatherings. It's one thing to get from point A to point B safely; it's a whole other thing to be able to say hello to the people you know.
A.avoiding physical obstacles
B.navigating the social relationships

D.The persons who have recognition software.

A.It reminds the owner to say hello.
B.It adds the portrait to its database.
C.It produces sound to remind the owner.
D.It scans the person to make a match.
解析:选D 细节理解题。

根据第三段“As soon as the camera notices a person, its software will begin scanning the face to see if there's a match.〞可以得知当拐杖遇到人的时候就会开始扫描,看是否能与已有数据匹配。

故该题的正确答案为D。

31.We can conclude from the last paragraph that________.
A.XploR is necessary and useful
B.XploR can make people healthy
C.XploR teaches people to say hello
D.XploR will be accessible to everyone

根据文章最后一段第二句的“has potential to s olve a real problem ...〞以与“it's a whole other thing to be able to say hello to ...〞可知新发明实用且有必要。

When Josh McFarland graduated from Stanford he owed $40,000 in student loans and couldn't find a way to ever pay it off —not unusual for the typical young adults these days. Then he went to work for Google. As a product manager, he got stock options (股票购置权) and cashed them in over the five years he worked there. He married a fellow Google employee, so she had stocks too. Then she moved on to Yelp, and he quit to start TellApart, which provides technology solutions for ecommerce (电子贸易) sites. Now 33, McFarland no longer has to think about his student loan: His company has $17.75 million.
McFarland is on the starting end of Generation Y, the group of people born in the United States after 1980 that are typically described as burdened with heavy student debts, underemployed and underpaid. More than a third of the 80 million Generation Yers live with their parents, according to the Pew Research Group. But McFarland is part of the sizeable minority that is doing quite well: nearly 12 million Generation Yers live in households that make more than $100,000, according to a survey. Many of them, in technology fields, live simple workbased life and are not burdened with heavy student debts held by doctors and lawyers.
Discouraged by having watched the older generations suffer through the hard time of 2000 and that of 2008, these young adults are viewing their quickly accumulating wealth differently. They don't seem as interested in the trappings of wealth, not are they concerned about their retirement accounts. They see money as a path to career freedom, where they can pick up and start again at will (随意) as soon as a more interesting offer comes along. The whole idea fr om the Generation Yers is that they use their money instead to gain a little bit of control over what they work on.

62.a make a difference

People often say, “Time is money.〞 But in fact time is less valuable than money. Why? Because when money is spent, we can earn them back. However, when time lost, it will never return. This is the reason why we must value time. The time we have is limit. But there are a lot of people who do not know the important of time. They kill time by chatting, drinking or gambling. They didn't realize that waste time is simply wasting their valuable lives. In the word, we should develop the good habit of saving time. Don't leave what can be done today till tomorrow. Laziness will not only bring to us failure, and also make us lead a poor life.
答案:第二句:less→more
第三句:them→it
第四句:time后加is
第六句:limit→limited
第七句:important→importance
第九句:didn't→don't; waste→wasting
