➢ 表示“相反，反而，而是”， 是一种转折关系，用于提出相反或不同的观点；通常位 于句首，后跟逗号，与整句话隔开。 eg. 尽管外面噪音很大，我的朋友John没有抱怨，而是依旧很专心地戴着耳机听音乐。 It was very noisy outside but my friend John didn’t complain. Rather, he remained focused on listening to music on his earphones.

1. The emphatic use of “do” 助动词表示强调
I always do arrive in time! 我总是及时到达的！ He does speak well! 他的确讲的很精彩！ He did come but soon went back. 他的确来过，但很快就回去了。
rather 的用法
➢ 表示“相当，在某种程度上”，通常用来修饰形容词或副词，语气程度比 quite更为强烈。 eg. I’m feeling rather sleepy. 我有点困倦。
➢ 与动词连用，意思是“有点儿，稍微”，用于减弱语气。 eg. I rather suspect we are making a mistake. 我有点儿怀疑我们正在犯错
➢ or rather/but rather :“确切地说，倒不如说，或者说”，常用来纠正说法。rather后面 不跟逗号。 eg. To be polite, I kept nodding and smiling to show my understanding, or rather I pretended to understand. What you need to care about in chasing your dream is not what others tell you to do, but rather what you truly want to do yourself.

• 强调谓语动词的语气 • 重读 • 译为“的确，确实”
条件： • 肯定句
• 一般现在时或一般过去时
祈使句加do：
➢ 表示强调的请求，常译为“一定” Do come with us. 请一定要和我们一起去。 Do come to the party tonight. 请今晚一定来参加晚会。
