14、阅读理解。
Today people are paying more and more attention to improving their health through sports and exercise. But some of them have some wrong ideas about it.
A plate of chicken is a good meal before games because it has much energy.
In fact, the best meal before games should have carbohydrates(碳水化合物). Foods like potatoes, bread, bananas are rich in it, chicken and meat are not. Carbohydrates are the best and most easily used forms of energy. The energy that you get for today’s game is from what you ate yesterday.
The best time to exercise is early in the morning.
Morning is a good time to exercise, but it may not be suitable for you. If an afternoon or evening period suits you, and you enjoy the feeling of getting healthier, you can choose any time to exercise. There is no fixed time for you to exercise. If yo u drink water when you exercise, you’ll get headaches and feel tired.
The fact is that you must have some water during breaks when you exercise. And after exercising, you must have enough water. If you don’t drink enough water, then you’ll probably get hea daches and feel tired.
Exercising the same body part every day is the fastest way to improve strength.
False! Exercising the same body part every day is the fastest way to cause problems. To improve strength, you want to work your muscles(肌肉) hard, but then you need to give those muscles a day of rest. Too much exercise can cause
serious problems to muscles.
Girls who do strength training will make their muscles big.
Wrong! We usually connect those big muscles with bodybuilders(健美运动员), but girls don’t have enough male hormone(雄性激素) to make their muscles big like men. Strength training is a good way to make their muscles strong for girls.
1.You had better eat ______ before games.
A.bananas B.meat
C.beef D.chicken
2.You can ______ to improve arms’ strength.
A.exercise your arms every day
B.eat enough chicken
C.get enough male hormone
D.exercise your arms hard but rest for some time
3.The writer advises you to ______.
A.take exercise only in the morning
B.become a bodybuilder by strength training
C.drink enough water after exercise
D.make your muscles small through exercise
4.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?
A.Afternoon is the best to exercise as it’s cool.
B.Y ou can exercise at any time.
C.It’s good for both girls and boys to do stre ngth training.
D.Y ou should eat food full of energy today for tomorrow’s game.
5.What is this passage mainly about?
A.Reasons for sports and exercise.
B.False ideas about sports and exercise.
C.Result of games and exercise.
D.Proper time for sports and exercise.

15、Do you have a good sense of direction? If not, please take with you a compass. But if you forget to take a compass, you can still find your way during the trip.
Suppose you are hiking with your family somewhere in the mountain in Dan Xia Mountain, you need to find the direction of south to find your way back. But none of your family members can read the map and actually knows where the family is. Never mind. The sun is shining and it’s still morning. If you don't know the exact time, you can still find out where south is, but you'll need to be patient.
①Find a straight stick and put it in the ground in a place where you can mark its shadow.
②Try to put the stick as vertically (垂直) as you can. You can check this by making a simple plumb line (铅锤线) with a piece of string (绳子) and weight. You haven't got any string? Ok, use a thread from your clothes with a button tied at the end to act as a weight.
③After the stick is put vertically, you can see its shadow on the ground. Mark the end of the shadow.
④Wait about half an hour and mark the end of the shadow again.
⑤Keep doing this until you have made several marks.
⑥The mark nearest the stick will show the shortest shadow when it is midday, because at that time the sun is highest in the sky and pointing to the exact south.
⑦Pick a point in the distance along the line between the shortest shadow and the stick.
⑧That point is south of where you are.
⑨Now you can turn the map, like you did before, and find which way you should choose for traveling.

It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the cold temperature. But Jake kept calm(镇定). At home, Jake watched a lot of programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed it up the hill so the wind couldn’t blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature fell to a dangerous -15℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.
But he had to get down the mountain. The TV programmes always said,“ If you are lost, you should find someone else’ s tracks(足迹) through the snow and follow them.” “I wanted to live my life.” remembers Jake.“S o I got up and I found some ski tracks and I followed those.” He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours after he lost his ski, he found a team of workers who came to save him. He was safe!
