湖北省某校高一(上)月考英语试卷(10月份)
第二部分:阅读理解(共两节)第一节(共十小题,每小题2.5分,满分25.0分)
1. Most people say "yes" much more readily than "no".
A friend is moving house this weekend and would like some help, and you agree. But, what you really want is a couple of quiet days relaxing at home. Or a roommate spends the entire weekends playing video games and wants to borrow your homework for "reference". But, you've just finished it after taking a whole day to work hard.
Many people say "yes" to these kinds of requests. They tend not to consider their own interests and feelings, and are often angry with themselves afterwards.
Saying "no" requires courage and considerable practice, in fact, according to psychologists.
"Everyone wants to be liked, " says Gabriele Steinki, a German psychologist."Saying ‘no' risks losing the affection of the person asking the favor or even a job."
The result is that many people say "yes" just for keeping the peace. But experts say this is regrettable. Anyone should have the right to say "no".
In fact, rejecting a request can even help to strengthen a relationship because it expresses a true feeling.
But, for people who are used to agreeing to every request, changing can be a long and uncomfortable learning process.
Most people believe that "If I say ‘no', I'll lose the affection of the person. But the affection is important to me." This way of thinking can be replaced by this: "If he only likes me because I always do what suits him, then the price of his affection is too high in the long term."
Steinki says the key is talking to the other person to find a mutual (相互的) solution. "One needs to present the situation from one's own point of view, and to suggest how the situation can be dealt with to the advantage of both parties. The other person must have the feeling that his interests are being considered."
When the refusal is not accepted, Steinki advises giving the reasons calmly again until the person gets the message.
(1)Most people say "yes" much more readily than "no" because________.
A. they don't care about their own interests and feelings at all
B. they don't know they will regret afterwards
C. they have already been used to saying "yes"
D. they care more about others' affection.
(2)In the opinion of psychologists,________.
A. people need a lot of practice to say "no"
B. people should say "yes" to keep the peace
C. saying "no" means losing a job
D. people have the right to be liked.
(3)According to Steinki, what should you do if you want to refuse the other person's request?________ A. Just say you can't help him.
B. Say sorry to him.
C. Refuse him clearly.
D. Talk to the other person to find a mutual way.
2. Times are a little tough at our house right now. Neither of us makes a lot of money, but years of experience have taught us how to walk between the raindrops and make it from one month to the next with a fair amount of grace. I cook a lot at home, more when we're facing difficult times. When I know that I have to keep us fed on
not much money, I fall back on my grandmother's recipes(食谱). She taught me to cook.
When I was a kid, my twin brother and I spent long summer weeks and Christmas vacations with my mother's parents in the mountains of North Carolina. Rather than go hunting with my grandfather on mornings, I found myself more and more in the kitchen with my grandmother, watching her making a lemon cheese pie with her soft hands.
My great﹣grandmother died when my grandmother was 11 years old. As the eldest daughter, she was expected to take on all of the housework while attending school. Throughout the Great Depression, she learned how to make a little food go a long way. Vegetables were cheap, so she cooked a lot of them, mostly only using small amounts of meat for seasoning. Roast beef was a twice﹣a﹣month luxury, but there was nothing she couldn't do with a chicken, every part of it. Nothing went to waste.
Now I understand that her food was sacred (神圣的). I feel connected to my grandmother and to hundreds of years of family when I'm in my kitchen making country food. In the delicious smells is a long tale of victory over hard times, of conquering starvation ﹣ of not just surviving, but finding joy and pleasure in every meal of every day. From grandmother I learned to take real satisfaction in feeding people. My grandmother would smile with pleasure over a heavily laden table and say: "Do you know what this would cost at the restaurant? " I never knew what restaurant in particular she had in mind, but I knew that the question was totally not fair, because no restaurant anywhere can cook like a grandmother. But now, thanks to her guidance and years of practice, I can.
(1)According to the passage, the author's grandmother________.
A. learnt to cook because of the Great Depression
B. was good at cooking as well as careful in budgeting
C. preferred chicken to beef
D. had to walk a long way to learn cooking in a restaurant.
(2)It can be inferred from the passage that the author________.
A. liked to compare her grandmother's food with that in restaurants
B. learnt something more precious than cooking from her grandmother
C. hasn't found the joy in cooking though she can cook like her grandmother
D. feels connected to her grandmother when making country food in the kitchen.
(3)Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?________
A. Cook like my grandmother
B. My grandmother's sacred food
C. My grandmother's recipe
D. Joy and pleasure in cooking.
3. The thing that sets children apart from adults is not their ignorance, nor their lack of skills. Rather, it's their enormous capability for joy. A friend told me a story. One day, when she went to get his 6﹣year﹣old son from soccer practice, her kid greeted her with a sad face. The teacher had criticized him for not focusing on his soccer drills. The little boy walked out of the schoo1 with his head and shoulders hanging down. He seemed wrapped in sadness. But before reaching the car door, he suddenly stopped, crouching(蹲伏)down to look at something on the sidewalk. "Mom, come here! This is the strangest bug I've ever seen. It has, 1ike, a million legs. It's amazing!" The little face was full of indescribable excitement.
Nowadays, however, when we walk into a classroom, especially in a high school, we'll be choked by towering books and papers, and hiding behind them are a group of motionless creatures, pens in hand, minds dry, just as the hollow(凹陷的) men described by T. S. Eliot. Their pursuit of joy has given way to their hunger for grades. Laughter and happiness are a distant memory for them.
Although joy is an unaffordable luxury(奢侈品) in today's increasingly fierce competition, administrators and teachers need a mindset shift from pressing students with assignments to getting them to take pleasure in productive activities which develop their important qualities, like perseverance and obligation. The idea that pleasure is the enemy of competence and responsibility makes no sense educationally.
Adults tend to talk about learning as if it were medicine: unpleasant, but necessary and good for you. Why not think of learning as if it were food﹣something so valuable to humans that they want to experience it as a pleasure?
(1)How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed?________
A. By describing a procedure.
B. By drawing a conclusion.
C. By giving an example.
D. By collecting data(数据)..
(2)What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 2?________
A. Summarize the first paragraph.

A. Stop giving students homework.
B. Involve students in meaningful activities.
C. Supply students with luxuries.
D. Arouse students' fond memories..
(4)What is the text mainly about?________
A. Joy is the spokesperson for learning.

第二节:概要写作(满分15分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要.
What is eco﹣fashion? Eco﹣fashion is about making clothes that considers the environment, the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry.
A closer look at the fashion industry points out many problems that are common practices in the creation of our fashions from the field to the factory. Firstly, the production of textiles pollutes the environment
heavily. Cotton﹣planting uses pesticides; sheep﹣farming and wool﹣cleaning bring about global warming. Secondly, every stage of clothing production consumes a great deal of energy and some also involve chemicals which obviously do harm to the surroundings. In addition, there is a lot of waste produced in the process, especially in the form of polluted water. Thirdly, growing purchasing power and our shopping habits further worsen the bad effects. We are now buying clothes in increasing quantities and we are also quick to throw away clothes that have been worn only a couple of times.
Then, how to solve the problem? To a large degree, it is the fashion producers that really have the power and
the responsibility to shape our future. There are a great many ways these producers can reduce their ecological footprint, from switching to green energy and reducing energy use, through selecting sustainable materials and choosing local suppliers, to recycling and minimizing waste. On the other hand, as consumers we can all play
our part by selecting environmentally friendly clothing and reducing clothing buying.
There is some concern that eco﹣friendly fashions are just a trend that we will eventually grow tired of but we can make sure that doesn't happen. Now many people are beginning to shop for organic food products because the benefits of eating food free of chemicals are immediate. They relate directly to our personal health. In fact, choosing eco﹣fashion can also do good to our personal health, though it is mostly done by way of keeping the health of the planet.
