Today, I stand before you to share with you the joy and significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese festival that holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people around the world.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, usually falling in September or October. It is a time for family reunions, moon观赏, and the appreciation of the harvest. The festival symbolizes harmony, unity, and the beauty of nature.
The origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back to the ancient Chinese dynasties. It is believed that during the Tang Dynasty, the moon was said to be particularly round and bright on this day, and people would gather together to appreciate its beauty. Over time, the festival has evolved into a celebration of family, friendship, and love.
As a Chinese student, the Mid-Autumn Festival holds a special meaning
for me. It is a time to reconnect with my family and friends, to share stories, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. The festival brings back nostalgic memories of my childhood, when I would eagerly await the arrival of the mooncake, a traditional Chinese pastry that symbolizes reunion and abundance.
Mooncakes are an integral part of the Mid-Autumn Festival. These round pastries, made of various fillings such as lotus seed, red bean, and egg yolk, are often given as gifts to family and friends. The mooncake's round shape represents the moon, while the filling symbolizes the richness and sweetness of life.
In addition to mooncakes, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also celebrated with other traditional customs. One of the most popular activities is moon观赏, where people gather to admire the full moon and enjoy the beautiful night sky. In ancient times, it was believed that the moon was closest to the earth on this day, making it the perfect opportunity to appreciate its beauty.
Another significant custom is the lighting of lanterns. People hang lanterns of various shapes and sizes in their homes and communities.
These lanterns, made of paper or silk, are often adorned with intricate patterns and symbols, such as dragons, phoenixes, and the Chinese character for happiness. The lanterns symbolize hope, prosperity, and
the desire for a peaceful life.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a time for celebration but also a time for reflection. It reminds us of the importance of family and the value of unity. In today's fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught up in our daily routines and forget to appreciate the simple joys of life. The Mid-Autumn Festival serves as a reminder to slow down, spend time with loved ones, and cherish the moments we share.
As college students, we often find ourselves away from home, living in a new environment and facing new challenges. The Mid-Autumn Festival, with its emphasis on family and unity, can be a source of comfort and inspiration for us. It reminds us that no matter how far we may be from home, we always have a place to belong and people who care about us.
In conclusion, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for celebration, reflection, and appreciation. It is a festival that brings people together, reminding us of the importance of family, friendship, and love. As we gather here today to celebrate this special occasion, let us take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the moon, the delicious mooncakes, and the joy of being with one another.
May the Mid-Autumn Festival fill our hearts with happiness, our minds with peace, and our lives with abundance. Thank you for joining me in celebrating this wonderful festival.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!。
