)第一节:(共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
I once heard someone say, “We don’t remember days; we reme mber moments.” However, in today’s busy life we often forget to enjoy small pleasures while we make big plans.
In the race to be better or best, we, sometimes lose sight of “jus t being”. And just being and enjoying a beautiful moment can pr ovide some of life’s greatest pleasures. A fire on a cold winter ni ght, a good book, an impressive sunset, a great meal, or a timel ess moment with your child or a friend. . . these moments, if we stop long enough to enjoy, are the essence of life.
I love to fish, especially for large-mouth bass(鲈
鱼). About three years ago I was watching television late one ni ght and got this crazy idea to go fishing in the lake behind my h ouse. Of course, my wife thought I was nuts. It was almost midn ight! I told her I was fine and took off.
1 walked out to a warm summer breeze and looked up at the st arry sky and breathtaking full moon. I allowed my senses to soa k(浸泡) in every second—
the sweet smell of flowers, the sound of every cricket (蟋蟀), the moon’s reflection dancing off the water—
it was a perfect night.
After walking across a small field, I took out a flashlight, and sel ected a lure. On my first cast I got a bass weighing over five po unds, one of the largest I had ever caught. I gently put it back in to the water and continued my midnight adventure. During the n ext two hours I caught seventeen bass, all between two and fiv e pounds. Although I’ve fished for almost fifty years, no fishing memory can top that night.
But that night provided far more than a fishing memory. It was a life memory. It provided me a picture of what life could be like if I just slowed down enough to enjoy the moments. On my way back to the house, as I walked through the tall grass, I took one last look at the sky and stopped to say, “Thank you, God, for gi
ving me this night.”

Just like the young character in Hannah Montana, who so often fights with her father over her desire to be more independent, B ritish teenagers also have their troubles.
A recent survey among 2,000 British parents shows that girls a nd boys experience similar kinds of stress, with some slight diff erences.
Girls want to grow up fast, demanding greater freedom. They fe el pressure from their peers to be thin and sometimes dangerou sly experiment with alcohol.
Girls over 14 are more concerned with getting a boyfriend, mak e-up and going out with friends than with their school-
work. They are more likely to complain about pocket money. Parents found they had their toughest time with boys over the a ge of 15. Their sons are battling bad skin, are reluctant(不
愿) to speak, and like girls over 14, are little interested in their st udies. Seven out of ten parents said their sons become frustrat ed when they are not understood.
Unsurprisingly, it isn’t just British teenagers who have such pro blems.
In a survey published in the last month, two out of three high sc hool students said their life was tough. There was a universal w orry over body image and ability to fit in socially.
Plenty of the teenagers feel great pressure to get good grades, with nearly half naming this as their top worry. The next biggest issue is pressure they face to get into a good college. Accordin g to the survey, 66 percent reported saving their money to pay f or all or part of college.
“Today’s American teens have witnessed what their families ha ve endured during recent economic challenges, and they are m uch more aware of the importance of planning ahead,” said Stu art Rubinstein, managing director with TD Ameritrade, which ca rried out the survey.

Recently some American scientists have given a useful piece of advice to people in industrialized nations. They say people sho uld eat more of the same kind of food eaten by humans living m ore than 10,000 years ago. 71
The scientists say that the human life has changed greatly. Our bodies have not been able to deal with these changes in lifestyl e and this had led to new kinds of sicknesses. 72 So they ar e called “diseases of civilization”. Many cancers and diseases o
f the blood system are examples of such diseases.
Scientists noted that people in both the Old Stone Age and the New Stone Age enjoyed very little alcohol or tobacco, probably none. 73 However, a change in food is one of the main diffe rences between life in ancient times and that of today.
Stone Age people hunted wild animals for their meat, which had much less fat than domestic ones. They ate a lot of fresh wild v egetables and fruits. They did not have milk or any other dairy p roducts, and they made very little use of grains. 74 We eat six times more salt than our ancestors. We eat more sugar. We eat twice as much fat but only one third as much protein and m uch less vitamin C.
75 But scientists say that we would be much healthier if we eat much the same way the ancient people did, cutting the amo unt of fatty, salty and sweet food.
A. Stone Age people lived a simple life.
B. But today, we enjoy eating a lot of these.
C. In that case, they would live much healthier.
D. Ancient people also got lots of physical exercise.
E. These new sicknesses were not known in ancient times.
F. People today probably don’t want to live like our ancestors.
G. Modern people used to suffer from “di seases of civilization”.
