四.完成表格。

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成表格中所缺的信息。

In modern society (社会) there is a lot of argument about competition. Some speak highly of it, believing that it is helpful' for social progress and richness. Others say that competition is bad, and that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their self-worth( 自我价值) depend on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and-death matters. Sadly, they forget to develop many other
human qualities.
However, while some seem to be lost in the strong wish to succeed, others think quite differently. In a culture which only cares about the winner and doesn't care about the common players , they hate competition, especially youngsters who are under competitive pressures from their parents or society. Teaching these young people, I often find that they even choose to fail (失败)by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse:“I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't try." In fact, they are worried that if they had really tried and failed, the failure would mean that they were nothing.
Clearly, this belief is the same as that of true competitors. who try to prove (证明) themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's self-worth comes from how well one performs in comparison with others. Both worry about not being valued.
(认可价值) We can find a new meaning in competition as such worries and fears begin to disappear.
