四、阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
I had my first job at a local diner called the Buttercup Bakery when I was 22. I worked there for seven years and learned so many lessons, especially from a fellow waitress Helen who had incredible self-respect and did what she loved—serving people. She made everyone smile and feel good, customers and co-workers alike.
Being a waitress changed my life. One of my regular customers was Fred Hasbrook, an electronics salesman. Thanks to the newfound confidence I picked up from Helen, I dreamed
of having my own restaurant. But when I called my parents to ask for a loan, they said, “We just don’t have the money.”
The next day, I shared my dream with him and said, “Fred, I know I can do more if somebody would just have faith in me.”
He walked over to some of the other diner regulars and the next day handed me checks totaling $50,000—along with a note that I have to this day. It reads, “The only collateral (担保)on this loan is my trust in your honesty as a person. Good people with a dream should have the opportunity to make that dream come true.”
I took the checks to Merrill Lynch—the first time I had ever entered a brokerage (经纪业)house—where the money was invested for me. I continued working at the Buttercup, making plans for the restaurant I would open. My investments soured, though, and I lost the money.
After great deliberation(考虑) I decided to apply for a job at Merrill Lynch. Even though I had no experience, I was hired and ended up becoming a pretty good broker. Eventually I paid back Fred and my customers the $50,000, plus 14-percent annual interest. Five years later, I was able to open my own firm.
I got a thank-you note from Fred, which will be imprinted on my head forever. He had been sick and wrote that my check had helped cover his mounting medical bills. His letter read, “That loan may have been one of the best investments that I will ever make.”

Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there's a whole lot more to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your personality, it will hurt you long-term regardless of your skills or the job's pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas;
1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?
There are isolating(使孤立)jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts
easily to either situation.
2) How do you handle change?
Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don't happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.
3) Do you enjoy working with computers?
I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you'll likely find
a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.
4) What type of work environment do you enjoy?
This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won't know immediately to a smaller setting where you'll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.
5) How do you like to get paid?
Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this.
Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I've seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.
66. What is unnecessary in your job hunting?
A. Matching your skills with a position
B. taking your personality into consideration
C. Assessing your skills
D. Going to different areas
67. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Almost everyone has a tendency in jobs.
B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily.
C. Extreme people tend to work with others.
D. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad.
68. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph one mean?
A. Before you select your job, you should assess your skills and match them with your position
B. There are more important things than assessing skills and match them with the
position when you select job.
C. Nothing is important than assessing skills and match them with the position when you select job.
D You should ignore your skills when you select job.
69. What is the missing word about a job search in the following chart?
A Changes. B. Cooperation. C. Design. D. Hobbies.
70. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Personalities and Jobs
B. Jobs and Environment
C. Job Skills and Abilities
D. Lifestyles and Job Pay

me to hit the ball to my classmates. I was so terrifying that I would make a fool of myself.
One of the boys for m y team saw how nervous I was. He walked up me and whispered, “Come

Dear Headmaster,
I’m w riting to you for the purpose of/with the aim of drawing your attention to the improper behavior among us students. Wasting has become a serious problem to our school.
It is important for every one of us to do something for our school. Firstly, we should try to save electricity in our daily life. For example, if we are the last person to leave the classroom in the evening, we must always remember to turn off the lights. Besides, it is not easy for our parents to support us. Wasting food just means wasting our parents’money. At last, in order to protect the forest, we should use both sides of paper to make full use of it.
I believe that doing all these small things will help us build the conservation-minded campus. I would appreciate it if you take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

(Text 10)
W: Hi, Well, it’s great to see you all. When I suggested this class, they said women don’t need a carpentry class. Now, I know that girls in school can do wood nowadays if they want to, but when I was at school, it was a boy’s subject, and that was that. So, when I got my own flat, I had no idea at all how to put up a shelf even. But when I saw it would cost six-month wages to employ someone to fix my kitchen cupboards, I decided to learn. That was 18 months ago. I’ve spent the past two months working on a desk, which I finished last week. I’ve decided to put it in the sitting room or perhaps the hall, although actually, my originally plan was to use it in my bedroom, but now it looks so good that I don’t want to hide it away! So, you see it’s not too difficult.
First of all, I want to say a bit about equipment. Usually it’s a good idea to buy the best quality you can afford. That doesn’t mean you have to get lots of expensive electric tools. Hand tools are fine, they’re slower of course, but you have more control at a slower speed. However, if you aren’t very strong, the power of electric tools can be a real help.
The next point is, don’t expect to make anything very big or difficult for the first few months at least. You need to develop your skills fairly slowly. If you don’t, you’ll make furniture which doesn’t work well.
Now imagine you want to put up a shelf in the bathroom. Think carefully about what you’ll need, and then we’ll look at the lists together and see what you’ve forgotten! OK?。
