I am a strong believer that if a child is raised with approval, he learns to love himself and will be successful in his own way.
Several weeks ago,I was doing homework with my son in the third grade and he kept standing up from his chair to go over the math lines.I kept asking him to sit down, telling him that he would concentrate better. He sat but seconds later, as if he didn’t even notice he was doing it, he got up again.I was getting frustrated, but then it hit me.I started noticing his answers were much quicker and accurate when he stood up.Could he be more intentwhile standing up?
This made me start questioning myself and what I had been raised to believe. I was raised to believe that a quiet, calm child was a sure way to success. This child would have the discipline to study hard, get good grades and become someone important in life.
Now those same people perhaps come to realize that their kids are born with their own sets of DNA and personality traits, and all you can do is loving and accepting them.As parents, throughout their growing years and beyond that, we need to be our kids' best cheerleaders, guiding them and helping them find their way.
I have stopped asking my son to sit down and concentrate.Obviously, he is concentrating just in his own way and not mine.We need to learn to accept our kids' ways of doing things. Some way may have worked for me but doesn't mean we need to carry it through generations. There is nothing sweeter than being individual and unique. It makes us free and happy and that's just the way I want my kids to live their own life.

Canada is the second largest country in the world after Russia. It stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the high Arctic(北极) to the northern border of the continental U.S.A. Although very much a "northern" country, the geography of Canada is very diverse. As well as the popular image of Canada as a country of forests, there are also deserts and badlands(荒地), rain forests and long and wide beaches. Canada has huge inland lakes, evergreen forests, woodlands and meadows. Canada's coastlines are thousands of miles long, with long, wild rivers leading to the oceans.
In contrast(相反) to the expanses of open country, Canada also has its share of urban areas. The majority of the population and heavy industry is in the two provinces of Québec and Ontario, but large and modern cities are spread across the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific, all within a few hours drive, at most, from the border with the United States. Business is active throughout the country, The Prairie Provinces with their vast fields of grain help to feed the world. The fisheries on both the West and the East Coast are widespread. Oil and natural gas have recently been discovered off the East Coast. The Trans-Canada Highway links the country from coast to coast, there is an extensive(广大的) network of railways, and a widespread network of airline routes serving both major and remote(偏僻的) communities.
The rural areas are less populated, with more and more people leaving for the larger towns and cities. The lands to the north are much less developed, but as some of these areas are used for their plenty of natural resources, populations are growing.

I am a writer. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language —the way it can evoke (唤起) an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple truth. Language_is_the_tool_of_my_trade. And I use them all — all the Englishes I grew up with.
Born into a Chinese family that had recently arrived in California, I’ve been giving more thought to the kind of English my mother speaks. Like others, I have described it to people as “broken” English. But I feel embarrassed to say that. It has always bothered me that I can think of no way to describe it other than “broken” , as if it were damaged and n eeded to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness. I’ve heard other terms used, “limited English” , for example. But they seem just as bad, as if everything is limited, including people’s perceptions (认识) of the limited English speaker.
I know this for a fact, because when I was growing up,my mother’s “limited”English limited my perception of her. I was ashamed of her English. I believed that her English reflected the quality of what she had to say. That is, because she expressed them imperfectly her thoughts were imperfect. And I had plenty of evidence to support me: the fact that people in department stores, at banks, and at restaurants did not take her seriously, did not give her good service, pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her.
I started writing fiction in 1985. And for reasons I won’t get into today, I began to write stories using all the Englishes I grew up with: the English she used with me, which for lack o f a better term might be described as “broken”; and what I imagine to be her translation of her Chinese, her internal (内在的) language, and for that I sought to preserve the essence, but neither an English nor a Chinese structure.
I wanted to catch what language ability tests can never show: her intention, her feelings, the rhythms of her speech and the nature of her thoughts.
66. By saying “Language is the tool of my trade”, the author means that________.
A. she uses English in foreign trade
B. she is fascinated by languages
C. she works as a translator
D. she is a writer by profession

C. imperfect
D. practical

B. The author’s mother was not respected sometimes.
C. The author’s mother had positive influence on her.
D. Broken English always reflects imperfect thoughts.
69. The author gradually realizes her mother’s English is________.
A. well structured
B. in the old style
C. easy to translate
D. rich in meaning
70. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The change of the author’s attitude to her mother’s English.
B. The limitation of the author’s perception of her mother.
C. The author’s misunderstanding of “limited” English.
D. The author’s experiences of using broken English.

[1]Think about how many ways there are for you to communicate today. You can send
a letter or pick up the phone and make a call. But today, one of the most popular ways to communicate is called instant messaging. In any instant messaging system, you type a little text message on your computer, press the "Send" button, and your message INSTANTLY shows up on your friend's screen. But how does it work?
[2]Actually, the whole process is very cool. In the 1980s, you could sit down at
a computer at any big university. Up to 100 people would be logged in and sharing the computer because very few people could afford to buy computer at that time. You could type a command to send an instant message to anyone logged into the same computer. It felt like everyone was connected together no matter where they were sitting.
[3]Today, you can do the same thing--but with lots more possibilities. And you can communicate with just about anyone in the world. All you need is an instant messaging program installed on your computer. There are many programs to choose from. AOL's instant messenger (AIM) is probably the most popular right now. MSN has one. Google has Google Talk. Ask your friends and find out what they are using. That will make it easier to communicate with them.
[4]When you’re ready, you create an account. Next, you need to figure out the IM names your friends use. Add their IM names to your IM program. Click on the friend you want to talk to and then type away. When you click end, your friend gets the message instantly.
[5]But behind the scenes, amazing things are happening. Your IM program is communicating with a computer, called a server. The server could be just down the road or even in some other city. All your friend's computers are communicating with a server, too. Your computer is constantly chatting with it to make everything happen. The network called the Internet makes it all possible.
76. Why did so many people share the computer in the 1980s? ( no more than 5 words) __________________________________________________________
77. What should you do first if you want to send instant messages on your computer? ( no more than 10 words)

__________________________________________________________
79. What must the computers be connected with in order to send instant messages? (no more than 2 words)

80. What does the underlined “it” (Par. 5) refer to?

由上下文的描述“a passion for art collecting”,“they traveled around the world”可以推测出,他们周游世界是在搜集世界上最好的艺术珍品。
由该段最后一句话“The young man had died while rushing a fellow soldier to a doctor.”

I was the one he was 46 when he died.”
可以看出,这位来客就是老人的儿子牺牲时救的那个人,在结合第二段的“The young man had died while rushing a fellow soldier to a doctor.”
对应第一段的“a passion for art collecting”,所以悬念love。
所以选never。

(A)
根据第一段的“I kept asking him to sit down, telling him that he would concentrate better.”
根据第四段的“…and all you can do is loving and accepting them.”

由文中倒数第二段中“...because she expressed them imperfectly, her thoughts were imperfect”一句可知选C,作者一度以为自己妈妈所说的英语是不完美的。

Deareditor,
I am writing to tell you about a recent discussion we have had on whether or not
university students should be financially independent.
35% of my classmates think that university students doing part-time jobs will
help one to gain working experience and learn more of society. Besides, when students
find it hard for their parents to earn money, they won't form the habit of wasting
their money. 50% of the students hold the view that university students needn't be
financially independent, because trying to make money in their spare time will affect
their studies. They also think that they can repay their parents and society by
studying harder. 15% of my fellow students, myself included, partly agree with them.
We think that as grown-ups, we shouldn't depend on our parents any more.
Personally, I think if our parents can afford to pay the tuition fee for us, we
should devote ourselves to our studies and try to do better. Thank you for reading
my letter.
Yours,
LinMing。
