By looking at insects such as water striders（池黾，水马）( a long-legged bug living on water whose legs are covered with tiny hairs), US scientists have engineered a bug-like robot that walks on water recently. The model of this robot was shown last September.
Small and light
The robot is a little over 7 centimeters long, and looks and moves very like a real bug. It has six legs: two front, two back and two out to the side, which row back and forth to push it forward.
Made of a lightweight metal, the robot weighs only 0.6 grams. But the lightness alone is not what keeps it walking on water. Legs of the robot covered with a water-resistant（防水的）Teflon（聚四氟乙烯）solution（溶液）.
Flexible to move
The robot has three joint-like connections called actuators（传感器）, which give the robot the flexibility （灵活性）it needs to move. The actuators shrink（缩小）or expand when scientists apply a voltages（电压数）to them. The robotic insect moves left, right, forward or backward according to different frequencies（频率）of the electric current（电流）that goes to its legs.
