In 1971, China's first subway line in Beijing was formally put into operation. By December 2017, there were 171 subway lines stretching over 5,083 km in 35 cities on the Chinese mainland. Currently, China has the longest urban railway network in the world, which is predicted to surpass 6,000 km by 2020.The rapid development of China's urban railway system reflects the country's growing economic strength. The system has experienced the fastest growth over the past 15 years due to the investment of wealth accumulated from the reform and opening up in urban infrastructure construction. An urban railway system is expensive to build, with one kilometer of subway costing approximately 700 million yuan(about $110 million). A city without economic strength cannot develop such an expensive system. The progress in urban railway construction technologies has also contributed to the fast expansion of the infrastructure. Subway construction involves building underground tunnels, laying rails, manufacturing trains and the operation and management of subways. It is a systematic project which not only covers traditional infrastructure building but also modern electronics and information technology. China's railway construction technologies are the best in the world, with Chinese subway trains now exported to developed countries including the United States. The expansion of Chinese cities has made it necessary to develop urban railway systems. Since the start of the reform and opening up, a large number of people have migrated to cities and the number of private cars has increased dramatically, resulting in serious traffic congestion. Building subways has become an important way to solve this problem. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the launch of China's reform and opening up, and the rapid development of China's urban railway system exemplifies the achievements made by the policy. As China furthers its opening up, it will continue to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and railway systems will be available in more and more cities.Writing 1The past few decades has witnessed the fast development of Chinese urban railways both in number and length, which is a reflection of China's prosperous economy. (要点1) Actually, not only the growing construction technologies but also the expansion of Chinese cities with booming population and heavy traffic, stimulates the urban railway construction. (要点2) With the deepening of the reform and opening up policy, more urban railways will come into use.

I knew I would have a beyond-busy summer. I would be a junior teacher for the Little Dragons Karate (空手道)Camp. And I had to do summer swim team. And Ollie and I already had two customers for our dog-walking business."You might be biting off more than you can chew,"my mom said with a warning glimpse when I talked to her about it and announced,"I want to do everything!""Don't worry."I grinned."I have strong teeth!"My mom smiled back."In this case, it's your organizational skills, not your teeth, that need to be strong."I didn't take it to my heart. And the first week really was no problem. My friend Ollie was out of town and karate camp hadn't started, so my swim stuff was all I needed to worry about. The next week was great too. I swam, and a Little Dragon at karate camp told me I was his favorite teacher ever!I did learn, though, that staying organized with two activities was harder. My backpack was already stuffed with a towel and swim things, so I needed another for my karate clothing. Riding my bike from karate camp to the pool with two backpacks was a challenge. But I still had it under control until Ollie got back."We'relate getting our business together!" he said."We'll have to spen d every spare minute preparing.”"But I don't have any spare minutes!"I said."Did you forget we agreed to walk Alfie every Saturday? And Muffin on Tuesdays at 4:00?"Ollie asked. I couldn't let Ollie down, so I took out a third backpack and filled it with dog toys, treats, and plastic bags. I thought I was all set.But I was wrong! It didn't take long for my dog-walking stuff and karate stuff and swim stuff to get all mixed up, forgotten, or lost. One day, I forgot my karate backpack and had to borrow Emma's extra outfit, which was too tight. The next day, I remembered my karate stuff but forgot my swimsuit, so I had to help out in the snack shop and stay out of the pool all afternoon. And another time, when I reached intomy dog-walking pack for plastic bags, all I could find were swim goggles (护目镜) and sunscreen.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

The production of fine art is the use of skill and imagination to create aesthetic objects or experiences which can be shared with other people.Photography is thought by some to be a form of fine art; however, others claim that photography is not. Those who believe that photography is not a form of art present several arguments. They claim a photograph is nothing but an objective record of a particular place at a particular time. Therefore, any beauty that is perceived in the picture is the beauty of the time and place where it was taken, and is not the creation of the photographer. They also argue that sophisticated and expensive equipment often plays a greater role in the success of a photograph than the photographerʼs creativity.Even some of the greatest photographers acknowledge that there is a limit to the amount of influence they can have on a final product. However, there are also many reasons why photography is appreciated on the same level as other recognized forms of visual art.The decisions involved in creating a photograph are analogous to those made by any other artist.A photograph is not just a banal record of the world, but a deliberately created image with its own artistic features.Ansel Adams, the American photographer, commented on this point when he noted: “You donʼt take a photograph, you make it.” There is a growing trend for photographers to call themselves artists and their photos are sold for millions of dollars. However, these high prices may not be enough to change peopleʼs perceptions of whether photography is art.The arguments about whether photography is art have been discussed since the earliest cameras were used. The creative process involved in taking a fine photograph, deciding what, when and how the picture should be taken, is certainly similar to the process of making fine art. However, cameras are also increasingly used to take photographs for non-artistic functions.Although we cannot say that photography itself is necessarilyart, we can certainly see that it is a medium that can be used to make art.【范文】Opinions vary from person to person on whether photography should be considered a fine art. Some are against it because they think it is just an objective record and the photographerʼs creativity isnʼt reflected. However, others are in favor of it.They think photograph is a deliberately created image. All in all, photography is a medium used to make art.B(2024·高考三轮冲刺卷)阅读下面短文,依据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

If you're worried that too much“screen time”could badly influence your child's intelligence, new research suggests you might be right.By analyzing the data gathered from over 4,500 U.S.kids aged between 8 and 11 in 2016 and 2017,Jeremy Walsh,a postdoctoral fellow with the CHEO Research Institute in Ottawa, found that too much“screen time”could harm your child's intelligence.Kids with the sharpest intellect spent less than two hours a day on their cell phones, tablets and computers coupled with 9 to 11 hours of sleep and at least an hour of physical activity.Too much screen time could affect kids' ability to focus, especially if they are switching between apps on a device or between different screens at the same time,Walsh suggested.“One leading theory is that much time on screens is spent using multiple apps or devices at once,”he said.“This can interfere with a child's ability to focus on and keep interested in a task.It can damage the building blocks for good cognition(认知).”“Sleep is important for brain development, since that's when the brain reorganizes itself and grows,”Walsh added.Besides, exercise has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain and oxygenation of brain tissues, and increase the connectivity of networks in the brain.Too much screen time could lead to a“cascade”effect(级联效应) where kids don't get enough sleep and then are less active during the day.“You can see how this would have an impact on brain health,”Walsh said. What should parents do?Walsh advised them to set firm rules about the use of screens including how long children are using the screens, the kinds of apps they are using and how many screens they are using at once.Concerned parents also should preview games or apps before letting their child play, seek out more interactive(交互的) options that engage the child's mind, use parental controls to block or filter the content and limit the screen time.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【参考范文】New research has found that excessive“screen time” may negatively affect children's intelligence.(要点1)It prevents children from focusing and staying interested, thus restricting their cognitive development.(要点2)Also,it results in inadequate sleep and lack of physical activity, which can do harm to the brain health.(要点3)Accordingly,parents are advised to establish strict regulations concerning the use of screens, monitor the content and limit the screen time.(要点4)B阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

A recent U.N.report shows that many of us are working longer and harder than ever.In the past, employees worked eight or nine hours a day.Today, however, many companies expect their employees to work longer. In addition, the boundary between work and personal life has become less clear. If we are not working in the office,we might be working at home.We are required to be on call whenever our company needs us.In short,we are all working and having less time with family and friends. This overemphasis(过分强调) on work can lead to serious problems in our personal lives. The more time we spend at work, the less time there is available to maintain relationships with our friends and family. Many of us spend so much time on the job that we hardly ever get to see our partners or children. When we do get home,we are often tired and lack the energy to spend time doing what we really enjoy. There are, however,a number of ways in which we can regain control of our lives and correct the worklife balance.First of all, workers, especially those employed in offices, have to realize that work is rarely finished. In other words, taking work home does not usually decrease the amount of work.As one task finishes, another one appears. This means that, unless there is a strict deadline, work should stay at work.Another way to regain a worklife balance is to plan your free time. Most of us spend a lot of time planning our working week.Few of us put the same effort into organizing our leisure time. However,if we don't have a plan, there is a danger that we will miss out on the things that we really enjoy doing. So,if you like going to the cinema, make sure that you go regularly.Write it in your diary. If you enjoy having friends visit, plan a time and write that in your diary too. It's all too easy to let your precious time slip away.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【参考范文】Currently employees tend to work longer hours and harder than ever before, breaking the worklife balance.(要点1)Actually too much devotion to work has a negative impact on their family and social bonds.(要点2)To solve this problem, employees should strike a balance between work and life by figuring out a clear boundary and scheduling their leisure time with some effort.(要点3)B篇阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

I had much practice climbing drainpipes 排水管as a teenager, when I forgot my keys. It wasn’t a skill I expected to need again on a sunny bank holiday. I’d arranged to meet my wife in the beer garden of a local hotel. As I approached, I could hear raised voices. I thought maybe some people had drunk, but as I walked into the garden, I saw everyone looking up, including my wife. Following their sight, I saw a child on top of a roof sticking out from the hotel. I realized the people in the garden had arranged themselves underneath, in the hope that one of them would be able to catch him if he fell. From the other side of the roof, I heard a woman’s voice begging him to sit down and keep still. It was the boy’s mother, who had tried to climb up to him and become trapped halfway. The child ignored his mother’s voice and his every movement brought a fresh gasp 倒抽气of anxiety from onlookers. The firemen had been called, but no one knew how long they’d take. I imagined the firemen working their way across the city, slowed by holiday traffic. The thought of looking on helplessly as the boy lost his footing made me feel sick. Scanning the side of the building, I quickly worked out the quickest way up and made for the drainpipe. It was old and looked as if it might break away from the wall, but I managed to quickly climb onto the roof. Aboveme, the child paid me little attention and didn’t appear to be frightened at all. He was no older than two. I realized I’d be unable to predict his responses. My only choice now was to keep climbing. The roof narrowed as it rose and I planted myself as firmly as I could on the edge, caught the boy and helped him on to my lap.

Scientists in London say they have found the best diet for both humans and the planet. If the world followed the so-called "planetary health" diet, the scientists told Reuters that each year more than 11 million early deaths could be prevented. Scientists say that the way we produce and eat food is very bad for the planet. For the health of the planet, they claim the same diet would reduce greenhouse gases and save more land, water and animals.Tim Lang, a professor at Britain's University of London, co-led the research. He told Reuters, "The food we eat and how we produce it determines the health of people and the planet, and we are currently getting this seriously wrong." Lang added that the world's population is expected to grow to 10 billion people by 2050. If we want to feed everyone, he explained, we all need to change what we eat and the way we eat by "improving food production and reducing food waste."Well, what do you eat on the planetary health diet? The scientists who created this diet say it is largely plant-based but still has small amounts of dairy, fish and meat. The diet calls for cutting red meat and sugar by 50 percent and doubling the amount of nuts, fruits, vegetables and legumes.Food situations around the world are not equal. In certain areas, this would mean great changes. People in North America, for example, eat 6.5 times the recommended amount of red meat. On the other hand, people in South Asia eat only half the amount suggested by the new planetary health diet. Meeting the targets for vegetables would need big changes in other areas. In sub-Saharan Africa, people on average eat 7.5 times the suggested amount of vegetables like potatoes and cassava. The scientists admit their goal will be difficult to achieve. But for them doing nothing is also not an option. Willet said, "If we can't quite make it, it's better to try and get as close as we can."

Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity.I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day’s events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn’t accumulating memories a way of preserving the past? When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, wellequipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen ... At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary. Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often — only of objects I find really beautiful. I’m no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.I don’t want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I’ll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don’t live to make memories —I just live, and the memories form themselves.

Why do parents have such a difficult time to communicate openly and honestly with their teens? For this, there are many reasons but most of them stem from not being able to properly understand their teens. It is a dangerous gap because parents will have to communicate with their teens about a wide variety of issues during the most important years of their lives. Thus, parents must know how to communicate openly and honestly with their teens. Here are a few tips to make communication easier between parents and teenagers. As parents, you should listen to what children said carefully and pay much attention to it.Make them feel as if their views really matter, which not only helps your discussions with your teen but brings you closer to him.Meanwhile, try to remember some of the negative feelings you experienced as a teenager and apply it to your teen's situation.Never make negative remarks to your teen about what she has said or done.Remember how much courage it would have taken for your teen to come and talk to you about his personal issues. So listen respectfully. If your teen is unusually angry,it may be time to spend a bit of quality time with your teen to determine what is wrong and where it is coming from.It is,therefore, necessary for parents to strive to keep lines of communication open at all times with their teens.Try to remember what it was like to be a teenager and how vulnerable(脆弱的) you felt. Then you will be well on your way to helping your teen communicate more openly and honestly.【写作指导】本文首先提出问题:很多家长不会和孩子公开、诚实地沟通。

During all kinds of holidays, millions of people will buy gifts for loved ones.Which is great—except that tons of those people will make the same glaring mistake, and buy the wrong gift. What's going on?Gift buying has become a deceivingly selfish pursuit. We don't actually look for things people want to receive.Instead, and to many of our gifts' detriments,we tend to look for things that we want to give. It's a subtle, but pretty significant problem.Research has shown that givers tend to value the gifts they buy considerably more than recipients.Gifts are valued roughly 10 to 33 percent less by recipients than what givers paid for them,Joel Waldfogel noted in Scroogenomics:Why You Shouldn't Buy Presents for the Holidays, his 2009 book on giftgiving. The discrepancy seems to come from a simple misplaced belief that thoughtful presents are the best presents. They are not.In fact, they might just be the worst presents. The more thought you put into a present, the more likely you are to strayfrom buying what the person you're buying the present for actually wants. In other words, people let their giftgiving egos get in the way of great presents.Especially when the recipient is someone they want to show they know really well.Fortunately, the answer to our collective insistence on guessing what people want is simple:stop it.If that's too callous,or impersonal, there's another helpful rule of thumb.Instead of buying restrictive gifts, like gift cards for specific stores, buy gifts that allow for flexibility, like gift cards that can be used more broadly (or,better yet, cash).People tend to prefer gift cards to actual gifts, and cash to both,Steffel explained.Steffel's latest research, which focuses on gift card giving, points to exactly this point—that versatility is the key to better gift giving.【写作指导】通读全文可知,本文是一篇议论文,按照提出问题、分析问题、解决问题的顺序来组织文章。
