1. 数据分析Data Insights(新增版块)
Quantitative Reasoning
Verbal Reasoning

Key: -20+2-4=-22 2. a= 2^4, b=2^a, 2^x=a^b, what is value of x? a=2^4=16; b=2^a=2^16; 2^x=16^(2^16)=2^(2^18) Key:à x=2^18=1024*256 3. * , the answer is -1. The last quesion in Math. Key: ((x+y)/(x-y))*((y-x)/(y+x))=-1 4. X, Y are positive integers. Is Y odd? a. XY=even b. X+Y=even “Is” type question a: Y/N (yes or no, means Y can be either odd or even) not sufficient b: Y/N not sufficient a+b: (从问题倒推) If Y odd, then (a) x is even and then (b) x is odd->can not be true!! If Y is even, then (a) x is even or odd and then (b) x is even->can be true. Thus Y MUST be even. Therefore, to answer “Is Y odd”, NO. So a+b together sufficient. Key C: a, b alone not sufficient, but together are sufficient. 5. How many mutiples of 3 between -100 and 100. I choose 67, as I consider 0. 1.

About 40 per cent of the国际商务英语等级考试(中级)试卷第 9 页(共14页)population’s food and a large proportion of the raw materials used by industry have to be imported. In 1980 exports of goods and services were equal to about 25 per cent of the Gross National Product. In the exports of manufactures, the UK, in recent years, has done less well than her major competitors. The UK’s share of the value of the main manufacturing countries’exports fell from 16 percent in 1980 to about 9 per cent in 1999. This was due to the fact that the volume of UK exports increased at an annual average rate of 5 per cent, only about one-half the rate achieved by the main manufacturing countries as a whole and about one-third the rate for Japan.Changes in the commodity composition of exports have been very small in recent years. The share of manufactured goods has increased slightly while the share of basic materials has declined. There has been a steady decline in the share of textiles and an increase in the share of chemicals in total exports. Over the next decade the possibility of exporting North Sea Oil and the diminishing dependence on imported oil should have a beneficial effect on the UK’s visible trade balance. The most striking change in the geographical distribution of UK exports in国际商务英语等级考试(中级)试卷第 10 页(共14页)recent years has been the swing away from the traditional Commonwealth markets and a growing dependence on the market in Western Europe. Exports to Western Europe accounted for about 34 per cent of UK exports in 1989 but by 2000 this share had grown to nearly 60 per cent. This is much in line with developments in world trade as a whole, because trade between industrialized countries has been the fastest growing sector of world trade. The other important development is the growing importance of the markets in the oil-exporting countries.()1. Are we gradually allowing an increasingly select number of large companies to take care of all our basic requirements? The supermarket chains certainly hope so. ‘Peo ple don’t have the time to shop around any more. If they’re happy with the quality of a company’s service, then they’re likely to buy other product types from them as well,’says Jim Austin, an industry analyst. With the major supermarket brands such as Tesco, J Sainsbury and Asda already offering financial services, credit cards, own-label clothing, mobile phones, and cut-price electrical goods including computers, Austin believes that the supermarkets’diversification is set to continue.‘The UK retail food market is saturated, so their only real prospect of growth is either to enter foreign markets or diversify into new markets at home..’Tesco and J Sainsbury have done both. Having already bought foreign subsidiaries, both large supermarket chains have set up their own banks in order to offer customers financial services such as personal loans, mortgages and savings accounts.Together, the two new banks took over £2bn of customer deposits within the first year of trading. ‘They are winning business by国际商务英语等级考试(中级)试卷第 13 页(共14页)using a lower cost base to offer their customers better interest rates on savings than traditional banks,’ says Austin. However, there are question marks over long-term profitability. The traditional providers say there is bound to come a point when the new banks will eventually want to widen margins and boost profits. ‘When they start to raise prices, they might create bad publicity, which could hurt their brand,’ says one observer. ‘How will a major supermarket react, for instance, when it is faced with having to repossess a regular shopper’s home?’Shoppers, however, do not share these fears. A recent survey of 1,000 people by brand consultants Cook & Pearson concludes that shoppers will continue to buy a wider range of goods and services from supermarkets. Many people said that they would be prepared to buy a supermarket own-label car or even a house from a supermarket-branded estate agent. Interest was also shown in combining a food shopping trip with a visit to a supermarket dentist.Loyalty schemes are another incentive for customers. ‘Most supermarkets now offer bonus points with every purchase. These points add up to free air miles or cash discounts, so it really pays to stay loyal to the国际商务英语等级考试(中级)试卷第 14 页(共14页)brand in all its diversified forms,’ says Austin.
Prep

Researchers named her Hobbit, after the tiny heroes of the Lord of the Rings books. Now the team is saying it has unearthed even more pieces of the puzzle ,including a jawbone and parts of arms ,legs and hands from several individuals, as well as stone tools .They reported their find in Nature this month. “The new evidence makes it very clear that these people are a new species ,distinct from modern humans,”Peter Brown, a scientist on the team ,said. They named these ancient humans Homo floresiensis.Brown says that these little people lived as recently as 12,000 years ago.If Homo floresiensis was a different species from modern humans, that would make our family tree bigger than we knew. It means, says Brown, that “until recently ,a relative shared the planet with us. ”Many scientists think a new species is unlikely .Some argue that the bones must have belonged to modern humans whose small size was the result of a genetic problem.Daniel E. Lieberman,a scientist at Harvard University, thinks that the debate over the discovery is healthy. He believes that the questions and arguments raised by critics will help us learn more about these unusual skeletons.”Disagreement is an important part of the scientific process,”Lieberman said.“ As far as I’m concerned, the story’s only just begun. ”72. History of Indonesian People(D)Rail passengers are being forced to pay thousands of pounds more in fares as a result of poor advice from the national telephone helpline and individual stations, a consumer organisation reveals today .Research by Which? found that in some cases passengers are being charged almost double the cheapest price because of errors made by staff .Which? asked 25 questions of both station staff and the National Rail Enquiries (NRES) helpline.Only half of the 50 questions were answered correctly. If customers had followed all the advice given ,they would have been £1,263.60 worse off .Bad advice was given for the cheapest fare for a single journey between London and Grantham .For a ticket bought on the day of travel, both NRES and a King’s Cross station clerk quoted GNER’s £44.50 fare ,ignoring a Hull Trains service which leaves 10 minutes earlier and costs just £20.Some of the most costly misinformation was given for journeys where season tickets should have been recommended .Passengers making a return journey between Swindon and Penzance twice in a week could buy a ticket from one company for £70 which would cover all the travel. But both NRES and station staff quoted £67 for each journey, making £134.However, the NRES website proved to be a much more reliable source of information .Which ? also checked “the earlier you book, the cheaper the ticket” claims by five companies and found this was not always the case .On some services, prices went up and down at random .Ithiel Mogridge,52,gave one example of poor advice :”Last Christmas I found my brother a ticket on the to travel from Blackburn to Yate. While the direct route was £51, this one involved a change in Newport and cost just £21. I emailed the details to him and his partner. They went to Blackburn station ,where the clerk insisted the fare was £51.”Malcolm Coles, editor of ,said :”Staff training needs to be improved. In the meantime ,we’ve designed a checklist, available at / railadvice. “76. The passage is mainly concerned with the phenomenon that ________A. train passengers get bad advice on faresB. rail passengers are ill-treated by station staffC. booking clerks and the telephone helpline offer reliable informationD. rail passengers can get cheaper tickets if they book earlier(E)Directions : Read the following text and choose the most suitable heading from A-F for each paragraph .There is one extra heading which you do not need.“stars ”by putting them in unusual situation .”Big Brother”(created in Holland )was one of the first.A group of people were locked in a small house with cameras running 24 hours a day .It was called a “watch and dial ”showthe fist of the new reality shows, but such a programme has developed. Many have found appeal by having a theme to them, but most are based on the principle of “survival of the fittest ”by eliminating participants as the series progresses .So we have the dating shows where winners either pair off or stay true to their partners outside the TV studio .Then there are those that test people’s abilities for specific jobs like running a kitchen, becoming an interior designer or a top model .so many of them? For the viewer it’s an opportunity to “people watch”.It’s natural to like watching other people. They’re interesting. We can imagine what we would do in that situation. We get to know the characters and see them grow and develop week after week. And of course, television is the perfect place to watch people.Like the theatre or cinema we can look at other people and they can’t look back .But with television, we can watch in the privacy of our own homes, We watch, but we don’t have towhich advertisers like. The last “Big Brother”in Britain attracted enormous advertising revenue. They aren’t dependent on “star” actors with enormous salaries. And your actors wo n’t go on strike. And why do people participate in them ?Well ,for fame and money of course. In the past ,appearing on television wasn’t for ordinary people. You had to be good at something ,like sport, or reading the news, or acting .But not any morevaries from country to country too. For example ,one show had an adopted child try to guess the identity of her real father, and another had a family arguing over an inheritance .Both were cancelled after oneepisode.Perhaps the novelty has worn off.Certainly, reality TV seems to appeal much more to the younger audience. And now there are so many shows around even the young have become more critical. Reality show will probably survive—it’s just no longer so easy to make a successful one .第Ⅱ卷(共45分)Ⅰ.TranslationDirections: Translate the following sentences into English ,using the words given in the brackets . 1.
