Have you ever wondered what goes through your mind when you choose where to sit in a new classroom? Or in a waiting room full of strangers? Or on a bus? Researchers have found out some interesting facts.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, we prefer to sit closer to people like ourselves. Girls sit by girls and boys sit by boys. Adults sit together and young people choose another young person to sit near. But it goes further than this. We even choose to sit near someone who looks like us. People with glasses are more likely to sit near other people with glasses. People with long hair sit closer to other people with long hair.
We seem to believe that people with similar habits or hobbies will share similar attitude and we are more likely to be accepted by people like ourselves or even, we think we may be safer with people who look like us. Sometimes that's true but it's a pity if we always stick to the same people, the same group. The danger in always staying in our comfort zone (舒适区)is that we just recycle the same opinions, the same tastes and the same ideas. We lose the chance to learn something new, find out about interesting things, hear funny stories and discover difference.
When we always stick to the same people, how can we ever break down the barriers which prevent us from getting to know people with different ideas? And how can we avoid the ignorance (无知),which too often leads to prejudice (偏见) and even fear? If instead you want to live in a society that opens to changes and new things and different opinions, be the cat among the pigeons.
Move out of your comfort zone. Go and sit next to someone different. And don't just sit there in silence. Say hello. Ask a question. Start a conversation. That's how we make friends. That's how we learn about people. That's how we open our minds to new ideas. That's how we live an exciting life.

(3)The underlined word "barriers” in Paragraph 4 means .
A . doors

D . Because we want to live in a society full of humour.
(5)What is the title of this passage?
A . Just to be ourselves
B . Learn more about the foreign countries
C . Live an exciting life
D . Jump out of the comfort zone
20. (10分) Do you get angry at your friends' singing loudly while you are working? Or when your best friend does not wait for you after school? If you do, you need to control your feelings and stop getting angry so easily. Getting angry with people can make you lose friends.
Gary Egeberg, an American high school teacher, has written My feelings Are Just Like Wild Animals to help you control your feelings. It tells teens how to stay cool when bad things happen to them. The book says that getting angry only makes problems worse. It can never make them better. Getting angry is not a natural way to act. It is just a bad habit, like smoking. The book says you can control your anger easily—all you have to do is telling yourself not to be angry.
When a baby falls over, it only cries if people are watching it. Like a baby, you should only get angry if you are sure it is the right thing to do.
·Keep a record. Every time you get angry, write down why you are angry. Look at it later and you will see you get angry too easily.

This summer, thousands of visitors are walking in through a garden in the sky. It is right in the middle of New York City. They are enjoying a beautiful, new park called the High Line, which was built on old railway tracks.
After the railway was no longer used in 1980, wild plants, grass and trees began to grow between the tracks. A few people looked at this natural garden and saw something amazing. They worked to protect the area when others wanted to pull it down. Today, the High Line attracts up to 2 million visitors every year. This summer, the new part of the High Line started, almost doubling the park's size to one mile.
The design of the park is special. The new part includes many activities for children. Young people can use building toys, including wood, wheels, ropes, gears and tools, to create one-of-a kind structures (构造). The toys don't come with instructions. Instead, children use their imaginations to fashion houses, animals and machines.
"Everyone supporting the High Line project wanted the park to go around the city," says Danya Sherman, director of public programs for the Friends of the High Line. The Friends of the High Line is the group that saved the railway from pulling down, Sherman believes that public spaces such as the High Line have the power to bring communities closer.
The park also gives visitors a chance to experience nature in the city. The designers have allowed the park to keep the overgrown feeling that it had when it was an unused track. If you visit, you can see birds, butterflies and many plants that grow in the northeastern United States.
The Friends of the High Line hope to make the park even larger, over an area that is still used as a rail yard. The High Line has also inspired projects in other cities, including Philadelphia, Chicago, and Amsterdam, where people hope to build new parks on old railway tracks.

A . the size is one mile
B . the park looks like a wheel
C . children can create something freely
D . it was built on new railway tracks

B . helps to improve neighbor's relationship
C . should be taken away from the city
D . will never go around the city of New York
(3)It can be inferred (推断) from passage that____________.
A . all the rail yards will be pulled down
B . most natural animals will leave the park
C . more parks on old railway tracks will appear
D . more and more people don't support the High Line project
