① The word "zhiyin", which means close friends, comes from the story of Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi in the Warring States Period.
② Boya was good at playing guqin. The music he played was exquisite and pleasant to listen to. Although many people praised his music, he believed that he had never come across anyone who could really understand his music. One day, he was playing music on his way home on the boat. Ziqi, a woodcutter who happened to pass by was listening to him by the riverside. Boya invited him on board and played tunes(曲) that described high mountains and flowing water. To Boya's surprise, Ziqi could understand exactly what he wanted to express through his music. Boya was overjoyed and they became good friends. Since Boya had to return to his state, they promised to meet again in the following year.
③ Unfortunately, when getting back to visit Ziqi the next year, Boya heard that his friend had died from a disease. Boya was very sad and in front of Ziqi’s tomb(墓), he played again the music he had played when they first met. The famous ancient Chinese classical music piece Gaoshan Liushui was performed(表演) during the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 2016. The musical performance not only showed the beauty of traditional Chinese culture but also expressed China's willingness to develop its friendship with people from around the world.

When I was a boy there were no smart phones, and our television only got one channel clearly. Still, I never felt bored. The fields, hills and woodlands around my home were the perfect playground whose adventures(冒险) were only limited by my imagination I can remember once hiking to a nearby lake and walking slowly around it. At the back of it I was amazed to find an old dirt road that I had never seen before. It was full of muddy tyre tracks(轮胎印) and deep woods on both sides, but exploring it still seemed like a fine adventure.
I walked on and on for what seemed like hours. I was sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ear "turn around and head back home", but I was headstrong and walked on. There was still neither a car nor a house in sight. I noticed that the sun was starting to go down and I grew scared. I didn't want to end up trapped on this road, and I was worried that it would be dark before I could make my way back to the lake again.
I continued to walk on with something growing inside of me. My heart was beating quickly and my legs were aching.
I was almost in tears(眼泪) when I saw something in the distance. I realized it was a house. I jumped up and down and laughed out loud. It was still over a mile away, but my legs felt like feathers and I hurried back to my house in no time. I walked in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner. Then I ended my adventure with a good night's sleep.
I often thought of that experience recently. Actually, in our life, all roads, no matter how they twist and turn, can lead us home again. They can lead us to our homes here on the earth. They can lead us to our homes in our hearts. May you always walk your path with love! May you always help your fellow travelers along the way! And may your roads always lead you home again!

B. It was a road across the forest.
C. It was the only way to the lake. D He had explored it for many times.
31. What does the underlined word "something" in Paragraph 3 probably refer to?
A. doubt
B. hope
C. fear
D. courage
32.What may be the best title for the passage?
A. Every effort will be rewarded
B. Be brave to adventure
C. Create the future by yourself
D. All roads lead home

For some people, music is no fun at all. About four percent of the population is what scientists call "amusic." People who are amusic are born without the ability to enjoy musical notes (音调). Amusic people often cannot tell the difference between two songs.
As a result, songs sound like noise to an amusic. Many amusics compare the sound of music to pieces of metal hitting each other. Life can be hard for amusics. Their inability to enjoy music set them apart from others. It can be difficult for other people to identify(辨认) with their condition. In fact, most people cannot understand what it feels like being amusic. Just going to a restaurant or a shopping mall can be uncomfortable or even painful. That is why many amusics prefer to stay away from places where there is music. However, this can result in social loneliness. "I used to hate parties," says Margaret, a seventy-year-old woman who only recently discovered that she was amusic. By studying people like Margaret, scientists are finally learning how to identify this unusual condition.
Scientists say that the brains of amusics are different from the brains of people who can enjoy music. The difference is complex(复杂的), and it is not connected with poor hearing. Amusics can understand other non-musical sounds well. They also have no problems understanding common speech. Scientists compare amusics to people who just can't see certain colors.
Many amusics are happy when their condition is finally diagnosed(诊断). For years, Margaret felt worried about her problem with music. Now she knows that she is not alone. There is a name for her condition. That makes it easier for her to explain. "When people invite me to a concert, I just say, ‘No thanks, I'm amusic," says Margaret. "I just wish
I had learned to say that when I was seventeen and not seventy."
33. Which of the following is true of amusics?
A. Their situation is well understood by musicians.
B. Listening to music is far from enjoyable for them.
C. They love places where they are likely to hear music.
D. They can easily tell the differences between two songs.
34. According to paragraph 3. a person with "poor hearing" is probably one who _____.
A. has a hearing problem
B. can hear anything non-musical
C. dislikes listening to speeches
D. has no complex hearing system
35. In the last paragraph, Margaret expressed her wish that _______.
A. she were able to meet other amusics
B. her problem could be easily explained
C. she were seventeen years old rather than seventy
D. her problem with music had been diagnosed earlier
36. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Amusics' strange behaviours.
B. Situation and treatment of amusics.
C. Musical talent and brain conditions.
D. Some people’s inability to enjoy music.

Look at your computer keyboard. Have you ever wondered why the letters on a keyboard are not in "ABC" order?
The keyboard we use every day is called the QWERTY keyboard layout(布局). Q, W, E, R, T, Y are the first six letters on this layout, starting from the top left. ___37___
The first typewriter(打字机), with a keyboard which looked like a piano, was invented in the late 19th century.
___38___ However, it was later discovered that as the typing speed increased, some keys failed to come back to their places quickly. As a result, they got jammed(卡住) very easily. Most typists(打字员) ended up breaking the typewriter altogether when separating the keys. ___39___ It turned out to be a great success. It placed keys in such a way that the most used letters were spaced out so that the keys were more likely to work freely.
___40___ With the arrival of the computer, the typists in offices were the same people who were to now operate computers. This meant the typists had to be trained to use the new device(设备). But training required too much time and money. It was easier to design the keyboards following the layout of typewriters, which was the QWERTY layout, and this continues even today. It is very difficult now to get people to change to any other keyboard layout.
A. Some inventors built a typing machine.
B. However, another problem came about in the 1940s.
C. The typewriter did have the ABC keyboard layout like a piano.
D. To solve this problem, the QWERTY keyboard was developed.
E. Here are some tips to help you get used to the QWERTY keyboard.
F. To understand why we went with QWERTY, we need to go back in history.

Dear Tony,
I’m sorry to hear about your communication problems with your parents, but I know how you feel since I’ve had similar problems before. Here are my suggestions and I hope things can get better soon.
First. let’s put ourselves into their shoes. Parents love us and often try to prevent us from making mistakes, so understanding each other matters a lot in improving a family relationship. Besides, when we share our problems with them, we often look for a listening ear and an open heart instead of a method to solve problems. Therefore, what you need to do is telling them about this honestly and trust them.
I hope you can find these suggestions helpful. I wish you all the best.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua。
