Did you know that Albert Einstein could not speak until he was four years old and did not read until he was seven? His parents and teachers worried about his mentalability.
Beethoven's music teacher said about him, “ As a composer (作曲家)he is hopeless. ” What if this young boy believed it?
When Thomas Edison was a young boy, his teachers said he was so stupid that he could never learn anything. He once said, “I remem ber I used to never be able to get along at school. I was always at the foot of my class...father thought I was stupid, and I almost decided that I was a stupid person. ” What if young Thomas believed what they said about him?
When the sculptor Auguste Rodin was young, he had difficulty learning to read and write. Today, we may say he had a learning disability. His father said of him, “I have an idiot (白痴)for a son.” His uncle agreed. “ He's uneducable ,” he said. What if Rodin had doubted his ability?
Walt Disney was once fired by a newspaper editor because he was thought to have no “good ideas”. Enrico Caruso was told by one music teacher, “you can't sing. You have no voice at all.”And an editor told Louisa May Alcott that she was unable to write anything that would have popular appeal. What if these people had listened and become discouraged? Where would our world be without the music of Beethoven, the art of Rodin or the ideas of Albert Einstein and Walt Disney? As Oscar Levant once said, It's not what you are but what you don 't become that hurts. ”
You have great potential. When you believe in all you can be, rather than all you cannot become, you will find your place on earth.

After having a heavy lunch, when we continue our work in office, we tend to feel drowsy. It may strengthen so much that we find it difficult to keep our eyes open. At that time, many of us wish we could have a small bed next to our desks where we can take a rest! Sometimes, we even get a sense of guilt for fear that we may commit some mistakes in the work we are doing at that time. Some people may think that there must be something wrong with their health.
Usually, our lunch consists of heavy foods that make the stomachs full. So, most of the blood is directed towards the stomachs where the digestion is taking place. As a result, the brain receives much less amount of oxygen than it usually gets. This condition gives rise to drowsiness which is also accompanied by a sense of tiredness. During digestion of the foods, stomach acids are produced to help with digestion but they also change the pH values of the blood and make it alkaline(碱性的). Generally speaking, the pH values of the blood from 7.35-7.45 is normal. This alkalinity of blood can lead to the drowsy feeling. If you observe carefully, you will find that when you eat foods like pasta or bakery products, you tend to feel sleepier. These foods make the sugar levels in the blood higher than normal.
Thus we’d better make some changes on the foods that make up our lunch. Avoid potatoes, pasta, desserts and sweets, and eat less. Besides, we should stay away from drinks rich in caffeine, such as coffee. The fact is that it can make you think clearly only for a brief period of time. After that, you will start feeling sleepy all over again. Walking a few minutes after lunch is the best way to get rid of the drowsiness. This will improve the flow of blood in the body and will limit the blood sugar.
29. Why do we sometimes feel guilty after having a heavy lunch?
A. Because we can’t help worrying about our health.
B. Because we may drink lots of our company’s coffee.
C. Because we fear we may make mistakes in the work.
D. Because eating may take up our work time.
30. If a person eats too much, the pH value of his blood might be at ______.
A.7
B. 8
C. 6
D. 5
31. By following the suggestions in the last paragraph, we could________.
A. get rid of our bad eating habits finally
B. improve our health without much effort
C. keep our blood flowing at a normal speed
D. ensure our work efficiency in the afternoon
32. What does the underlined word “drowsy” in Para. 1 mean?
A. Sleepy
B. Weak.
C. Sick.
D. Impatient.

It’s great fun to explore new places—it feels like an adventure, even when you know you’re not the first to have been there. But make sure not to get lost or waste time going round in circles.
● Do the map reading if you’re being driven somewhere. It’ll be easier if you keep turning the map so it follows the direction you’re traveling in. Keep looking ahead so that you can give the driver lots of warning before having to make a tu rn or you’ll have to move to the back seat.
● Get a group of friends together and go exploring. You'll need a good map, a compass ,
a raincoat, a cell phone to call for help in case you get lost, and a bit of spare cash for emergencies . Tell someone w here you’re going before you set out and let them know what time you expect to be back. The test is in not getting lost, not in seeing how fast you can go, so always stick together, waiting for slower friends to catch up.
● See if your school or a club organizes orienteering activities, in which you need
a map and a compass to find your way. This can be done as a sport, with teams trying to
find the way from A to B (and B to C, etc.)in the fastest time, or simply as a spare-time activity. Either way, it’s not only good fun, but a great way to keep fit.
33. Sitting beside the driver, you should___________.
A. look ahead to see where there’s a turn
B. keep looking at the map to find a place to go to
C. move to the back seat if feeling uncomfortable
D. direct the driver when necessary
34.Why do you need to tell someone your exploration plan before setting out?
A. To be saved in case of an accident.
B. To get information when in danger.
C. To share the fun with him/her in exploration.
D. To tell him/her what’s going on with the group members.
35.The text mainly talks about____________.

B. what to bring for exploration
C. how to prevent getting lost in exploration
D. the way to use a map in exploration
