A
Last month my family,
my husband and I visited the zoo in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. I was afraid I just couldn't hide my excitement as it had been five years since I had been to the zoo. I was especi ally excited about getting to see the penguin exhibit that had b een completed since my last visit. I thought it would be just as magical as it was the last time.
The Tulsa Zoo is located on Mohawk Park,
and covers 84 acres,
making it the third largest zoo in the US. The zoo has several highlights,
but I have to admit that I found myself rather disappointed. Th e maintenance is deeply lacking, and most of the exhibits, landscaping,
etc. looked like it had not been updated or well kept. Unfortun ately,
their polar bear died a short time ago. The strangest attraction was the missing-in-action jaguar(美洲
虎).We spent several minutes searching for the animal wit hout any luck. In most cases the zoo was good about putting up a sign if the animal was no longer there or was moved to a different location,
but it was a different case with the jaguar and likewise the kan garoo.
Almost all of the hands-
on equipment in the elephant encounter was broken and no lo nger working. Although the zoo did put up signs as an apolog y,
it continued to add to the feeling that the zoo is approaching d eath. The one exhibit that did not fail to impress me were the African Penguins. Their habitat was well built. The lion, bear,
and tiger were also easy to watch. A favorite among the kids was clearly the monkeys who were very active and eager to p ut on a show.
The Tropical Rainforest did a very good job creating a special atmosphere. The cafe served very good food and had lovely i ndoor and outdoor areas for eating. They are currently re-designing the Sea Lion exhibit,
so the Sea Lions were not available for viewing while we were there. All things considered,
the Tulsa Zoo is still the best zoo in our area,
but I would only award it three out of five stars.
21.Seeing several highlights in the Tulsa Zoo,
the author ______.
A.felt very excited B.was a little frightened C.was not satisfied with them D.thought it was worth seeing
22.Why did the author think it was a different case with the j aguar?
A.Because the jaguar was friendly to the kangaroo and visit ors.
B.Because the zoo didn't use a sign to show if the jaguar wa s there.
C.Because the jaguar is very dangerous compared with oth er animals.
D.Because the jaguar had disappeared when the author got there.
23.What can be concluded from this passage?
A.The Tulsa Zoo will be expanded to become the largest zo o in the US.
B.The author intended to visit the Sea Lion exhibit before go ing there.
C.The author felt that the Tulsa Zoo will close soon. D.The Tulsa Zoo was very popular when the author was you ng.
24.What does the author think of the Tulsa Zoo in general? A.She thinks nothing of it.
B.It is the best zoo in the US.
C.She thinks very poorly of it.

The Beijing municipal commission of education plans to reduc e the English section of the all-

It will promote the value of the Chinese section from 150 to 180 points. Currently, the test weighs English, Chinese and m aths equally.
Officials have claimed the proposal as both a practical deci sion and a matter of national pride. "The change highlights (突
出) the fundamental importance of mother tongue in the curri culum," a representative from the commission told Xinhua.
Education authorities are also considering removing compu lsory English lessons before the third grade. They currently be gin on the first day of primary school.
Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, as well as Shanghai, ma y remove English from the Gaokao entirely. Public consultatio n on the proposal began on Monday, Xinhua reported.
Wu Mengran, a 19-year-old recent high-
school graduate in northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomo us region, said the change would allow students to spend mor e time studying oral English rather than blindly copying gram mar patterns in preparation for the test.
"In China, you can be really good at English tests but still not
be able to use English to communicate," she said. "Very few p eople study English here just to study English."
Chinese schools currently mandate(强制)
English classes until university, giving rise to a sprawling £3.1bn private English training industry. Even remote cities a re full of test preschools and tutoring agencies(辅导机构).
Xinhua called the proposals "no more than a minor adjustm ent", emphasizing that they would change the way that Englis
h is taught without reducing its importance.
29.Which of the following is not right?
A. Many people in China study English for passing the Colleg e Entrance Examination.

A. English will be reduced from 150 points to 100 points in the all-important college admissions test in major cities by 2016.
B. Education authorities are going to remove compulsory Engl ish lessons before the third grade.
C. Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, as well as Shanghai, ma y remove English from the Gaokao entirely.

Interest in pursuing international careers has risen in recent y ears strengthened by permanent personnel (员
工) shortages that are causing companies to search beyond t heir home borders for talents (人才).
Professionals seek career experience outside of their home c ountries for a variety of reasons. They may feel the need to re charge their batteries with a new challenge. They may want a position with more responsibility that encourages creativity. Or
they may wish to expose their children to another culture, an d the opportunity to learn a second language.
When applying for a job, one usually has to submit (呈现)a resume (简
历) or curriculum vitae (CV). The two terms generally mean th e same thing: a one- or two-
page document describing one's educational qualifications an d professional experience. However, guidelines (准
则)for preparing a resume are constantly changing. The best advice is to find out what is appropriate (合适
的) regarding the company culture, the country culture, and th e culture of the person making the hiring decision. The challe nge will be to include two or more cultures in one document. T he following list is a good place to start.
"Educational requirements differ from country to country. In al most every case of 'cross--
border' job hunting, just stating the title of your degree will not be an adequate description. Provide the reader with details ab out your studies and any related experience. "
Pay attention to the resume format (版式) you use—chronological or reverse-
chronological order. Chronological order means listing your 'ol dest' work experience first. Reverse-
chronological order means listing your current or most recent experience first. Most countries have preferences about which format is most acceptable. If you find no specific guidelines, t he general preference is for the reverse-
chronological format. "
If you are submitting your resume in English, find out if the rec eiver uses British English or American English because there are changes between the two versions. For example, universit y education is often referred to as 'tertiary education' in the Un ited Kingdom, but this term is almost never used in the United States. A reader who is unfamiliar with these changes may a ssume that your resume contains errors (错误)..

At a local supermarket, two women push half-
filled grocery carts. The ladies are good friends, but they coul dn’t be 41 different. One is a stay-at-
home housewife who loves to create culinary (烹饪
的) masterpieces from scratch. The other is a training supervi sor (导

If you think American cooking 45 opening a package and tossi ng the contents 46 the microwave, think again. On the one ha nd, it’s true that Americans thrive (发

cooked meal. But with cooking, as with any other skill, good r esults don’t happen by accident.
For those who need 49 in their cooking, or for those who have just 50 of ideas, recipes (配
方) are lifesavers. Recipes list all the ingredients (原
料) for a dish (generally in the order used), the amount of eac h to use, and a description of how to put them together. Findin g recipes in America is as easy as pie. Friends often increase their recipe collection by 51 their favorites written on cards.
For 52 cooks, true artists that they are, recipes are 53 referen
ce points. They often make 54 as they go along, depending o n the number of people they 55 serve, the ingredients they ha ve 56 and their personal taste. Some cooks use recipes very 57, preferring instead to depend on their intuition (直
觉) as they add a pinch of this and a dash of that to create jus t the right flavors(味道).
Of course, Americans don’t have a corner on the market 58 it comes to good cooking. Wherever you go in the world, people love to eat. As a result, every culture and national
ity has its own 59 of mouth-watering delicacies(美

Last year a national campaign is named “Clear Your Plates” w
as launched in China. It is a tradition for the Chinese to entert ain their guests with a plenty of food. They believe that they h ad not satisfied their guests if there’s no food left on the table. So ordering too much food is a good way to show their hospit ality (热情好客). As a result, restaurant trashcans(垃圾

The “Clear Your Plates” campaign aims to reduce wasting or r aise people’s awareness. It has been warm welcomed by peo ple from all walks of life(各界人
