Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; in fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cell-phone signal in this isolated (偏僻 的) area.

“How can I help you, little lady?” Robin's voice was joyful. “Hello, sir.” The little girl spoke almost in a whisper. She looked at Robin with her big brown eyes, and then slowly scanned the room in search of something special. Shyly she told him, “I'd like to buy a present, sir.” “Well, let's see,” Robin said. “who is this present for?” “My grandpa. It's for my grandpa. But I don't know what to get.” Robin began to make suggestions. “How about a pocket watch? It's in good condition.” The little girl didn't answer. She walked to the doorway and put her small hand on the door. She shook the door gently to ring the bell. Robin's face seemed to glow as he saw her smiling with excitement. “This is just right,” the little girl said. “Momma says my grandpa loves music.” Just then, Robin's expression changed. Fearful of breaking the little girl's heart, he told her, “I'm sorry, missy. That's not for sale. Maybe your grandpa would like this little radio.” The girl looked at the radio, bowed her head, and sadly sighed, “No, I don't think so.” In an effort to help her understand, Robin told her that the bell had been his only companion, for the rest of his family were all gone now, except for his estranged (疏远的) daughter whom he had not seen for nearly a decade.
Paragraph 1: With a giant tear in her eye, the little girl looked up at him. Paragraph 2: Later that evening when Robin was closing up the shop, he heard a familiar ring
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer hike, yet we were already walking a long distance. Our lightheartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a national park that did not officially open for another week.

Example 1: A Christmas gift
It was Christmas Day. Robin was working alone fixing an old lantern in the back room when he heard the ringing of his bell on the shop door. The bell, which produced a uniquely pleasant sound, had been in Robin's family for over a hundred years. He valued it dearly and enjoyed sharing its song with all who came to his shop. Although the bell was hung on the inside of the main door, Robin had tied a wire to the screen door so that it would ring whether the inner door was open or not. Hearing the bell ring, he left the back room to greet his customer.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
Example 2: 2020年4月高三一模
Deep in the forest, my husband and I had fun climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “Let’s turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
Paragraph 1: My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance.
Paragraph 2: Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.”

Why did the little girl use “Momma says”? Where was her grandpa?

My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.
