Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm in 7th grade. Today I want to tell you all about the good habits that have helped me grow up to be the awesome kid I am today!
First up, let's talk about one of the most important habits of all - being a great student! I've always loved learning new things in school. First up, let me talk about my habit of reading every single night before bed. I've been doing this for as long as I can remember. When I was just a tiny kid, my mom or dad would read storybooks to me to help me fall asleep. As I got a bit older, I started reading the books myself. Now that I'm in middle school, I love reading novels, biographies, mysteries - you name it! Reading helps my brain grow and it's also just really fun and relaxing.
Another habit that has been huge for me is eating a healthy breakfast every morning. I know a lot of kids just grab a granola bar or skip breakfast entirely, but not me! My mom makes sure I have things like oatmeal with fruit, yogurt and wheat toast, or eggs and whole grain pancakes. A nice, balanced breakfast gives me the energy I need to pay attention in class and do my best on tests and schoolwork. It's helped me become a strong student over the years.
Speaking of school, I also have the habit of staying super organized with my backpack, binders, folders, agenda, etc. I've
always been a bit of a neat freak, to be honest! Having an organizational system for all my school stuff means I never lose assignments or important handouts from teachers. It also helps me plan ahead for big projects and tests so I don't fall behind. Being organized just makes life so much easier.
One of my favorite habits is making time for physical activity every day. I've played soccer since kindergarten, and I'm currently on a club team that practices 3 times per week. But even on days when I don't have soccer, I make sure to do something active like going for a bike ride, shooting hoops, or following an exercise video on YouTube. Regular exercise gives me energy, helps me sleep well at night, and is just plain good for my health. I hope I can keep up this habit of being an active kid (and later an active adult!) forever.
Another habit that has served me well is limiting my screen time. Don't get me wrong, I love playing video games, watching shows, and browsing the internet as much as any other kid. But I try to keep it to just an hour or two per day, maximum. Too much screen time rots your brain! Instead of endlessly watching videos or getting sucked into video games for hours on end, I fill my time with other interests and hobbies like reading, arts and crafts,
coding, and hanging out with friends. Balancing screen time has helped me become a more well-rounded person.
I also have a habit of keeping my living spaces clean and organized. I'm not a total neat freak, but I do make my bed each morning, pick up my dirty clothes, keep my room relatively clean, and help out with chores around the house like loading the dishwasher and taking out the trash. Having an organized, decluttered space just makes me feel calmer and more in control. It's also good practice for being a responsible adult someday who can run their own household.
Finally, my habit of being a generally polite, kind, and
hard-working kid has helped me a ton in growing up so far. I always say please and thank you, I'm respectful to adults and authority figures, I'm a good friend, I put a lot of effort into schoolwork, I help out around the house without being asked...just basic things like that. Having good manners and a good attitude pays off big time in terms of developing positive relationships, getting good grades, being successful in extracurriculars, and just feeling good about myself overall.

First up, let's talk about brushing my teeth. I know, I know, it's not the most exciting topic. But having good dental hygiene
habits is seriously important! Ever since I was a little kid, my parents always made sure I brushed my teeth twice a day - once in the morning after breakfast and once at night before bed.
At first, I'll admit, I wasn't too thrilled about it. Brushing just felt like such a chore and I wanted to hurry up and be done with it. But my parents kept on me about doing a thorough job. They showed me how to brush properly, going over each section slowly and getting rid of any leftover food or plaque.
After a while, it became a habit. I didn't have to be nagged or reminded anymore. Brushing just felt like a normal part of my daily routine. And I'm sure glad it's a habit I picked up! My teeth are healthy, my breath doesn't stink, and I haven't had any cavities. Taking those few minutes in the morning and night has paid off big time.
Another really important habit is getting enough sleep each night. I have a set bedtime of 9pm on school nights. At first, I totally rebelled against this. 9pm felt crazy early to me! I wanted to stay up way later playing video games or watching TV. But my parents stuck to their guns on this one.
