In their last moment before the flight took off, I heard a father saying to his daughter, “ I love you, I wish you enough.” The daughter said, “Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough to.” They kissed goodbye and the daughter left. I could see the father was very sad.
Suddenly the father walked towards m e and asked me, “Did you ever say goodbye to someone knowing it would be the last time?”
His words made me think of my father. Realizing that my father’s days were limited(有限的),I took the time to tell him face to face how much he meant to me. So I understood what this father was experiencing.
“ Yes, I did.” I answered, “ But why is this a last goodbye?”
“ I am old and my daughter lives much too far away. Maybe her next trip back will be for my funeral (葬礼),” he said.“ When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say ‘I wish you enough’. What does that mean?”
He began to smile. “my parents used to say it to me . 14、China is a great country with the largest population in the world. In order to solve the population problem, our government carried out one-child policy (政策) before. When it is carried out for some time, many people not only see its advantages but also disadvantages.
From 2016, two-child policy is put into effect. In my opinion, two-child policy is good. First of all, two-child policy is the gift for some only child. For some families, maybe the parents are only child and they also can have only child. Besides the loneliness of their child, when their child grows up and they grow older, their child marry an only child girl, the burden (负担) on their child and his wife is too heavy. Their child and his wife have to take care of two couples. Usually, a young couple looking after an old couple is a little difficult. But if their parents have two children, they can share the burden of taking care of their parents. It would be much better. Secondly, two-child policy can guarantee (保证) the number of Chinese population.
All in all, one-child policy has been out of date. And two-child policy is needed and necessary. It can solve the problems of nowadays (现在) and the future.

15、I had an old neighbour, a doctor named Gibbs. When Doctor Gibbs wasn't saving lives,he was planting trees. He had some interesting ideas about planting trees. He hardly watered his new trees.
Once I asked why and he told me that watering plants made them grow weaker. He said he had to make things difficult for the trees so that only the strongest could survive. He talked about how watering trees made them develop shallow roots and how, if they were not watered, trees would grow deep roots in search of water.
So, instead of watering his trees every morning, he'd beat them with a rolled up newspaper. I asked him why he did that, and he said it was to get the trees' attention.Doctor Gibbs died a couple of years after I left home. Sometimes I walked by his house and looked at the trees I'd watched him plant 25 years ago. They were tall and strong.
I planted several trees myself a few years ago. Two years of caring for these trees meant they grew up weakly. Every time a cold wind blew, my trees shook. Adversity seemed to be good for Doctor Gibb's trees, they could never relax. Every night before I go to bed,I check on my two sons. I often pray(祈祷)that their lives will be easy. But lately I've been thinking that it's time to change my prayer. I know my children are going to experience difficulties. There's always
a cold wind blowing somewhere. What we need to do is to pray for deep roots,so when the rains fall and the winds blow,we won't be separated.
1.What did Doctor Gibbs do to the trees he planted?
A.He let them grow quickly. B.He beat them to get their attention.
C.He helped them search for water. D.He read a newspaper near them.
2.What does the word "Adversity" in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.Difficult living conditions. B.Little water.
C.Enough care or attention. D.Bad weather.
3.What does the writer learn from Doctor Gibbs?
A.Elders are treasures.
B.No pain,no gain.
C.Two heads are better than one.
D.Only those who bear(容忍)the most become the highest.

16、Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and develop. The words and pronunciations used by young people in the UK can be very different to those used by adults. Living in a multicultural (多元文化的) society has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from a mix of backgrounds. TV and music also have big influence on the language of the young. Often UK singers sing in American accents (口音) without realizing.
Young British people use lots of language that you usually can’t find in most dictionaries. These informa l words and expressions are known as ‘slang’. It is not possible to make a complete list of modern British slang. By the time the list was finished, it would be out of date! New words come and go like fashions. However, here are a few examples:
Safe, sorte d, sound, cool or wicked all mean “That’s good” or “I understand”.
Instead of using different tag questions like … isn’t it?, can’t you? or don’t they?, people use innit.
Instead of saying very, really or completely, people use well.
Whatever means I don’t care.
‘He’s fine’ or ‘He’s fit’ both mean ‘He’s good-looking’. Fine and fit can describe a boy or a girl.
Not everybody uses slang and not everybody likes it. A school in Sheffield, in the north of England, recently stopped its pupils using slang words such as hiya (hello), cheers and ta (both mean thank you). The head teacher says that if young people learn to speak ‘correctly’ this will help them get a place at university and a good job.
When British people use language like this, it’s no surprise that some students say they can’t understand native (本土的)
speakers. But perhaps learners don’t need to worry about communicating with native speakers so much. Research shows that most of the English spoken in the world today is spoken between non-native speakers of the language. In fact, when we think about “International English”, there is no such thing as a native or non-native speaker.
1.In the UK, you can find little slang in .

3.Which slang can be used in the following dialogue?
—But the te acher says we can’t leave until we’ve finished.
—. I’m going.
A.Sound B.Fine C.Cheers D.Whatever
4.If you want to learn more about the subject of the passage, you can search the Internet with the key words “”. A.British people B.English slang

18、There are about 6,000 languages that are spoken around the world. But 43 percent of these languages are dying out, according to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization,联合国教科文组织).If no action is taken, some of these languages will become extinct (灭绝的).
Languages become endangered for many reasons. One is that some communities of native speakers of the endangered languages no longer exist (存在),HuffPost reported. These people leave their communities and move to cities or towns.
In addition, the languages of “dominant (占主导地位的)” cultures may drive other languages into extinction. To get
better education and jobs, young people have to focus their attention on learning dominant languages rather than their own languages. Dominant languages include English,French and Mandarin (普通话).
Once a language dies, it rarely conies back to life. Governments across the globe are taking action to prevent this. In September, the US state of Alaska announced that the loss of indigenous (土著的)languages was an“emergency”(紧急事件). It is now working to give new life to such languages, Quartz reported.
In New Zealand, the government has said it wants over 20 percent of the country’s population to be able to speak Maori, an indigenous language, by 2040. It plans to provide Maori lessons in all New Zealand schools by 2025, The New York Times reported.
China is also trying to protect its languages. About 130 languages are spoken in China, even more than the number of ethnic groups in the country. Universities like Minzu University of China have created minority language majors (专业)for their students.
