The Monarchy ---She reigns, but does not rule.
Parliament ---the law-making body
Parliament is at the centre of the political system in the United Kingdom. It is the supreme legislative body. Parliament passes laws for the whole nation as well as for particular regions.
Executive power is exercised by the UK government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of Parliament, the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature, though several senior judges are also members of the House of Lords.
The Monarchy, whose powers are nowhere exactly defined by the law, personifies the State. She seems very powerful but in reality she is only a figure-head.
Politics of Britain
The Politics of Britain takes place in the framework of a constitutional monarchy, in which the Monarch is head of state and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is the head of government.
Local Government
The government is a three-tiered government: central government, country government and district government. All the countries in England have a similar two -tiered system in which each country is subdivided into a number of districts. Local government get their power from the Parliament. They enforce the laws of the nation. But they can also pass local laws known as bylaws.
