正确答案:Bridging the Generation Gap America is getting older. In the span of a generation, the average age of U.S. citizens will increase from 32.9 years in 1990 to 37.1 years in 2020. As the “baby-boom”generation ages, the proportion of America’s population who are age 65, and over, will increase. In that year, Americans aged 60 and over will comprise nearly one quarter of the population. Thus it becomes increasingly important for this country’s youth to develop a relationship with our elderly population. New York developed a program to achieve this goal in the late 1970’s. Students were writing their autobiographies as part of an interdisciplinary section on immigration and assimilation. The seniors came from many ethnic and racial backgrounds and many of the seniors had immigrated to America in their youth. Through the presentations and discussions, the students learned about overcoming adversity and achieving happiness and fulfillment. The students learned about topics that weren’t covered in most textbooks.

SECTION B PASSAGESDirections: In this section, you will hear several passages. Listen to the passages carefully and then answer the questions that follow.
听力原文:Not long ago, some of you may have read about the team of mountain climbing scientists who helped to recalculate the elevation of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. Of course the elevation of Mount Everest was determined many years ago using traditional surveying methods. But these scientists wanted to make a more precise measurement, using a new method that takes advantage of recent advances in technology; it’s called the Global Positioning System. The Global Positioning System uses 24 satellites that circle the earth. Each of the satellites is constantly sending out signals, and each signal contains important information that can be used to determine the longitude, latitude and elevation at any point on the earth’s surface. Well, in order to use the system to calculate Mount Everest’s elevation, scientists need to put a special receiver on the summit to receive signals from the satellites. The problem with this was that in the past, the receivers were much too heavy for climbers to carry. But now these receivers have been reduced to about the size and weight of a hand-held telephone, so climbers were able to take the receiver to the top of the Everest, and from there, to access the satellite system signals that would allow them to determine the precise elevation. And it turns out that the famous peak is actually a few feet higher than was previously thought.
12.What probably contributed most to the success of the new study of Mount Everest?

听力原文:The commercial vices are drugs. The appeals of the commercial vices are so strong and widespread that attempts to prohibit them in western countries have always failed. The evils of these vices are threefold: Those who practice them suffer, the criminals who sell them prosper, and the enforcement organizations are expensive, unsuccessful, and often corrupt. Drugs is one of the three commercial vices -- gambling and prostitution -- accepted as unstoppable, but there evils have been minimized by legalization and regulation. The United States attempted to prohibit alcohol and failed. The Mafia made its money by bootlegging alcohol. The gangsters of the twenties and thirties were in the alcohol business just as the drug peddlers of today are in the drug business. When alcohol prohibition was repealed and sale by licensed dealers was instituted, the Mafia went out of the liquor business and the revenue agents assigned to stop the illegal business went out of business too. The quality of regulated liquor became assured and taxed, revenue not high enough to motivate bootlegging. It became a source of public revenue. In conclusion, the government should take any law they can’t enforce and turn it around in order to make and save money. But they are also making fewer jobs for the police and other law enforcement agencies. I believe that in the end this way of doing things will be more likely feasible.

D.The drug addicts.

正确答案:D
解析:根据提问,可以根据相关的内容得到有关的信息: The quality of regulated liquor became assured and taxed, revenue not high enough to motivate bootlegging. It became a source of public revenue.
17.Which do you think is true of the author’s attitude of the passage?
A.The government ought to do more than making and saving money.
B.The government should take measures to make enforceable laws.
C.The government should legally turn the vices into order and profits.
D.The government is effective in stopping the commercial vices.
正确答案:C
解析:根据提问,可以知道政府在对付这些社会问题时无能为力,最终总是无法制止这些社会恶习,还不如使之合法化反而可以借机赢利。

所以,文章最后说了In conclusion, the government will take any law they can’t enforce and turn it around in order to make and save money.

On the other hand the US is saying well the quota is expired at the beginning of the year and since then we have seen a surge of Chinese imports and that is disruptive to our markets.
