Each statement contains information given in one of the paragraphs. Identify the paragraph from which the information is derived. You may choose a paragraph of either A), B), C) or D) and write the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2.Meat eating should go the way of smoking in public—out of style so much that it's considered taboo. The evidence is so clear; there should be no discussion anymore. Eating meat, even less than once a week, raises the risk of the leading killer diseases and premature death. The alternative? Adopting a plant-based diet that is, well, boringly healthful. Vegetarian diets are healthful as well for home kitchens and the planet as a whole. There is nothing palatable about the central killer diseases and an early death by cardiovascular disease or cancer. One new, major public health recommendation should be to give up chicken and clams, no less than beef or bacon. In fact, the drop in cholesterol (胆固醇) levels can be so great that our number one killer, heart disease, would probably become a rarity.Reasons to make the change begin when we learn that chicken has as much cholesterol as beef. It lurks (潜伏) in the muscle of the chicken, even if you eat skinless, boneless breast.Road kills—deer, moose, rabbits—do not have diseases, head-in-jam diseased livestock. And they do not spread, salmonellosis and Clostridium. Working to transform slaughterhouses into healthy houses would not work; roadkill or found animals are the safest.Animals raised for food in the free-range running, organic, cage-free produce can freely roam the predator's areas as animals get caught into the predator network. Aside from the short, simple predator to prey relationship, there is never a disease from a healthy, happy and unnecessary death on both the prey and predator levels.34. No more discussion should be thrown about ______.35. Becoming a vegetarian is as ______ as well as for home kitchens.36. A major public health recommendation is to give up______ as well as ______.37. The number one killer, heart disease, would probably become rare because of the ______.38. Chicken is not a healthy replacement for beef because it contains as much ______.39. Animals raised for food should run free ______ produce can freely roam the predator's areas.40. There is never a disease from a healthy, happy and ______ on both the prey and predator levels.Section CDirections: There are 2 passages in this section. And I know you will. Please come back now. I miss you as much as a bird misses its wings. My life is empty without you. I'll wait as long as you think I should. But please come back soon. Deputy President David Mabuza on Thursday vowed to restructure embattled electricity utility Eskom in a phased manner to ensure energy stabilization. The government is pleased with the progress being made to transform Eskom under new CEO,Andre de Ruyter,Mabuza said while replying to oral questions in the National Council of Provinces(NCOP),or Upper House of Parliament. This came after another round of rolling power blackouts plunged the country into darkness.Mabuza said the government has taken a view that Eskom must be supported to implement a prehensive turnaround program to ensure that the utility develops and enhances its requisite institutional capabilities to meet the country's energy needs.Mabuza sidestepped a question about whether state-run Eskom would be privatized, saying South Africans must be confident that"we are going to get out of this problem."He reiterated that the government has taken a view that Eskom must be funded to meet the country's energyneeds. On Wednesday,Eskom informed Parliament's Standing Committee on Appropriations that its gross debt stood at488billion rand(about29.2billion U.S.dollars).Eskom Chief Financial Officer Calib Cassiem admitted that without the government's recapitalization,Eskom would not have been in a position to meet its obligations.Mabuza said that despite the current challenge of continued load shedding,South Africans should be confident that this will be sorted out once the Medupi power plant in Limpopo Province is incorporated into the national grid.He apologized for continued disruptions of power supply which he said were caused by maintenance challenges.South Africa's power crisis worsened on Wednesday when Eskom escalated the level of load shedding from level two to level four. This was the highest level of load shedding that has been implemented this year.Stage two load shedding allows up to2,000MW to be shed, while stage four calls for4,000MW to berotationally cut off.Under stage four load shedding,South Africans have to endure unscheduled power cuts at any given time without any warning for close to four hours at a time.Eskom attributed the escalation to the continuing severe generation supply constraints caused by multiple unit breakdowns as well as the additional demand caused by the cold weather. The country has been hit by three rounds of load shedding since the outbreak of the COVID-19pandemic in early March.South Africa has suffered from electricity insufficiency for more than a decade, with power blackouts having bee increasingly frequent in recent years.Load shedding costs the country billions of rands a day and trillions over the years.英语新闻报道(十一):We are drowning in news.Reuters alone puts out three-and-a-half million news stories a year. That's We now know that the first dinosaurs appeared about 245 million years ago. There were hundreds of different kinds of dinosaurs, but they didn’t live at the same time. Some dinosaurs were really small. One of the smallest dinosaurs was about one metre long and weighed about three kilograms. Others were really big. Some very large ones weighed over 100000 kilograms and some were about 40 metres long. Some dinosaurs ate plants and others ate meat. Dinosaurs walked on either two or four legs and lived on land.4My ideal school starts at 8 a.m. and finishes at 3 p.m. I love sports and computers, so we have PE and computer lessons every day. The classes are quite small. There are about 20 students in each class. There is a big dining hall. There we can eat and chat with our friends. There is a park on one side of our school and a shopping mall on the other. We have a big library. We also have a tennis court and a swimming pool. There are lots of clubs and after-school activities. Every month, we go on a school trip to a museum or a theatre.5Zhalong Nature Reserve is in north-east China. It is one of the world’s most important wetlands. The area provides food and cover for a lot of wildlife. It is a perfect place for some rare birds. Some people want to make the wetlands smaller in order to have more space for farms and buildings. This will lead to less and less space for wildlife. Now the Chinese government has made laws to protect Zhalong.Wetlands are important because they provide food and shelter for wildlife including some endangered birds, and they also help prevent floods. We must protect the home of plants, fish and birds.6Winter is my favourite season. It is very cold and everyone has to wear thick warm clothes, but I always enjoy the winter here in Harbin. The temperature is usually below zero and it is often snowy. During this season, you cannot see beautiful flowers or green trees, but the land is quiet and beautiful. My friends and I love playing outside in winter. It is exciting to have big snowball fights. We also make snowmen and use carrots for their noses. They look funny.Winter is great!7My favourite festival is the Chinese New Year. People usually clean their houses before the festival. Jack says that green represents nature and that it can make you feel energetic. I remind Jack that green is also the colour of envy. My mother recommends blue. These fearsome fish have around 500 needlelike teeth sticking out of jaws (颌) that are strong enough to crush crustaceans (甲壳动物).How lingcod maintain the sharpness of their terrifying teeth has long been a puzzle. But a study, published in November in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, claims that Pacific lingcod keep their teeth sharp and shiny by replacing about three percent of them every day. For a lingcod, that’s up to 20 teeth replaced daily. In order to determine the frequency at which lingcod replace their teeth, Ms. Cohen, a coauthor of the new study, and her colleagues kept 20 lingcod at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories and tracked how many teeth they lost and regrew over several days. The fish were placed in a tank of seawater mixed with a red dye (染料) that colored their teeth, then returned to their regular tank for 10 days. When the 10 days were up, the fish were placed in a tank containing a green dye and then examined. The teeth that were present since the start of the experiment were both red and green, whereas the new teeth were only green. After collecting and examining a total of 10,000 teeth, the scientists were able to determine how quickly lingcod lost and regrew their teeth and which teeth were replaced most often.Lingcod, like most fish, have two sets of jaws: oral jaws and pharyngeal jaws. Their oral jaws are used to catch food while their pharyngeal jaws, which are positioned in their throats, are used to chew their food and move it from their mouths to the stomach. Ms. Carr, the lead author, and colleagues found that teeth are replaced more frequently in the back of the mouth, where most of the chewing and crushing take place. The way lingcod replace their teeth is likely crucial to their hunting strategy, says Kory Evans, a fish ecologist at Rice University in Houston. “The duller a lingcod’s teeth are, the harder it is going to be for it to hold on to its target. So having the ability to shed teeth and replace them is pretty important.” Dr. Evans said, “In order to make it as a lingcod, you need sharp pointy teeth and all your teeth need to be on point.”50.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?A.What role seawater played.B.What conclusion was reached.C.How the study was conducted.D.How teeth changed their colors. 51.According to the passage, lingcod’s teeth are replaced ___________.A.every 10 days B.to better hunt for foodC.faster in the oral jaw D.with bigger and sharper ones52.What does the underlined word “shed” in the last paragraph probably mean?A.Repair.B.Sharpen.C.Lose.D.Examine. 53.What is the purpose of writing this passage?A.To warn people of the danger of a fish.B.To introduce the findings of a new study.C.To stress the importance of replacing teeth.D.To suggest new ways to conduct studies on fish.2There is a popular saying in the English language, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Well, that is not true.Unkind words, name-calling or even the so-called “silent treatment” can hurt children as much as being physically hit, sometimes even more so. A developing brain can be damaged byunkind words, a study shows. A recent study of middle school children showed that verbal abuse by other children can harm development in the brain. The study was a project of researchers at Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts.Researcher Martin Teicher and his team studied young adults aged between 18 and 25. These young men and women had no experience with domestic (家庭的) violence, or physical abuse by their parents. The researchers asked the young people to rate their childhood exposure to verbal abuse from both parents and other children. Then the researchers performed imaging tests on the brains of the subjects. The images showed that the individuals who reported suffering verbal abuse from their peers in middle school had underdeveloped connections between the left and right side of the brain. The two sides of the brain are connected by a large bundle of connecting fibers called the corpus callosum (胼胝体). This was the area that was underdeveloped. The middle school years are a time when these brain connections are developing. So, unkind, hurtful comments from children or adults during this period have the greatest effect. The researchers tested the mental and emotional condition of all the young people in the study. The tests showed that this same group of individuals had higher levels of fear, depression, annoyance and drug abuse than others in the study. The researchers published their findings online on the American Journal of Psychiatry’s website. We cannot control what other people say to our children. But we can prepare them. A website called CreativeWithKids. com suggests 64 things that all children need to hear. Here are our top 20.54.Why is the saying in the first paragraph quoted?A.To arouse readers’ concern.B.To introduce the topic of the passage.C.To summarize the whole passage.D.To act as the basis of the research.55.According to imaging tests on the brains of the subjects, ______.A.middle school students have underdeveloped connections between who sides of the brain B.drug abuse affects middle school students more than verbal abuseC.only hurtful comments from children have the greatest effect on brainsD.the corpus callosum will be underdeveloped if affected by unkind words56.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?A.Actions speak louder than wordsB.Words will never hurt youC.Unkind words hurt the brainD.Spare the words, spoil the child57.What will the passage go on to discuss?A.Some beneficial words to say.B.Ways to deal with middle school students.C.Further research done in the field.D.Different opinions about the findings.四、语法填空1阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

The population
The populationToday we are going to talk about the population in the United States. Accoding to the most recent goverment census, the population is 281,421,960 people. Now this represents an increase of about 33 million people since 1990 census. A population of 281 million makes the United States the third most populous country in the whole world. As you probably know the People’s Republic of China is the most populous country in the world. But do you know which is the second most populous?Well,if your thought India, you are right. The fourth, fifth, and sixth most populous countries are Indonesia,Brazil and Pakistan. Now,let's get back to the United States. Let's look at the totally US population figure of 281 million in three, that is three different ways.:the first way is by race and origin, the second is by geographical distribution or by where people live, and the third way is by the age and sex of the population.First of all, let's take a look of the population by race and origin. The latest US census reports that 75.1% of the population is white, while 12.3% is black,3% are Asian origin and 1% is native American,2.4% of the population is the mixture of two or more races, and 5.5% report themselves as of some other race. Let's make sure your figures are right,OK? White:75.1%,black:12.3%,Asian:3%,native American:1%,a mixture of two or more races:2.4%,and other some other race:5.5%.Hispanics whose origins lie in Spanish speaking countries comprise whites, blacks and native Americans. So they are already included in the above figures. It's important to note the Hispanic make up 12.5% of the present US population. However, finally the census tells us there’s 31 million people in the United States who are born in other country, other 31 million for born. The lagest part 27.6% are from Mexico, the next lagest group are from Filipine, number 4.3%.Another way of looking at the population by geograpfique distribution. Do you have any idea which states are the five most populous in the United States?Well,I’ll help you out there. The five most populous states with population figures are California with almost 34 million,New York with 21 million,Texas with 19 million and Florida with 16 million and Illinois with 12.5 million people. Did you get all those figures down?Well,if not,I’m going to give you a chance later to check your figures.Well then, let's move on. All told over half or some 58% of the population live in the south and in the west of the United States. This figure 58% is surprising to many people. It's surprising because the east is more densely populated. Nevertheless, there are more people altogether in the south and west. To understand the seeming contradiction, one need only consider the relatively larger size of many southern and western states. So although there are more people, they are distributed over alarger area. To finish up this section on geograpfical distribution, consider that more than 3 quarters of people live in much metropolitanr areas like Los Angeles,New York,Chicago and Houston. And that means that only 20% or 2 out of ten people live in rural areas. And interesting side known is some 3,800,000 US citizens live abroad, that is in four countries. Before we finish today,I want to discuss the distribution of US population in terms of age and sex. Just for interests, would you say there are more men or more women in the United States?Well, accoding to the 2000 census, there are more women,in fact, there are more than 5 million more women than men in the US population. If we consider that more males than females are born each year, how can this diffrence be explained?Well, for a variety of complicated reasons that we can't go into here. There is a progressively higher death rate for males as they get older. This is seen in 2003 life expectancy figures. The life expectancy for women is 80.4 years, while as for men,it's only 74.5 years. I don’t know how these life expectancy figures compared of those in your countries, but statisticlly women generally live longer than men worldwide. Now,to finish up,let's look at the average age of the whole population. Overall the average age of the population is increasing. From 33.1 year in 1990 to 35.3 year in 2000, the average age has been slowly but steadily increasing over the past several decades, and this trendtowards a higher average age can be explained by a decreasing birth rate and increasing life expectancy for the population as a whole. Well, I'd like to investigate these two subjects further, but I see our time is up, so we'll have to call it quits for today. You may want to pursue the topic of the aging US population further,so there are some suggestions that on the end of the lesson to help you do so. Thank you.。

with these problems,we can easily become unhappy.Worrying about our problems can affect how we do at school. It can also influence the way we behave with our families. So how do we deal with our problems? There are many ways and here is one of themMost of us have probably been angry with our friends, parents or teachers.Perhaps they said something you didn't like,or you felt they were unfair.Sometimes people can stay angry for years about a small problem. Time goes by,and good friendship may be lost. When we are angry, however,we are usually the ones affected.Perhaps we have seen young children playing together.Sometimes they have disagreements, and decide not to talk to each other. However, this usually does not last for long. This is an important lesson for us to learn.70.What is the writer?A.A shopkeeper.B.A doctor.C.A student.D.A dentist.71.What is the main idea of the passage?A.How to deal with problems.B.How to do at school.C.How to behave with families.D.How to talk to each other.72.What will happen if people stay angry for long according to the text?A.They feel unfair.B.They may get sick.C.Good friendship may be lost.D.They may miss each other.73.Children decide not to talk to each other probably because______.A.they become unhappyB.they have different ideasC.they worry about a small problemD.they want disagreements74.From the passage,we know an important lesson for us isA.playing togetherB.learning to forgetC.staying angryD.feeling unfairDAccording to a new survey, students’safety has become a big problem.Nearly50%of students say they are worried about robbery on the way to and from school. Now in main big cities in China, some schools have taught an unusual lesson:self-protection.Students like this lesson because there are no exams or boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.Chen Haoyu,a teacher at Beijing No.25Middle School, gives young students advice on how to deal with danger.★If you are robbedKeep calm.lf you can not cry for help or run away.Give the robber your money.Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.★If you are in a traffic accidentIf a car hits you.You should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go.This is because you don't know how seriously you are hurt★If it is raining hard and there is lightingDon’t stay in high places and stay away from trees.★When there is a fireGet away as fast as yon can.Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit.Do not take the lift.★If someone is drowningIf you can’t swim, don’t get into the water.Cry out for help.Remember that danger is never as far away as you think.Take care of yourself at all time!75.Why do students like the self-protection lesson?①Because there are no tests.②Because the lessons are boring③Because they can learn how to save lives.④Because they can know how to stop danger before it happens.A.①②B.②③C.①②④D.①③④76.What will you do if a bicycle hurts you?A.I will remember the bicycle number.B.I won’t let the rider go until I call my parents.C.I will let the rider go before I call my parents.D.I will let the rider go because I know how seriously I am hurt.77.If your house is on fire, you must______.A.put dry things on your bodyB.run quickly and take the liftC.run away and find an exit as quickly as you canD.take everything you have and then run away78.There are______ways of self-protection mentioned in the passage.A.3B.4C.5D.679.The best title for this passage is______.A.How to Keep CalmB.Self-protectionC.An usual lessonD.Danger参考答案一、完成句子1.in the community;2.raise money;3.more than;4.take part ine for;6.offered to help;7.teaching to draw8.express their feelings;9.help in need;10.have difficulty in completing/finishing二、用所给单词的适当形式填空11.to do;12.to solve;13.say;14.to have;15.to help16.to speak;17.play;18.to finish;19.to work;20.not to do三、单项选择21~25AABBC26~30BCADC31~35CCABD四、语法选择36~40DBDCA41~45BDDBC46~50AACBD五、完形填空51~55BDACA56~60DCCBA六、阅读理解61~64DACB65~69ACCBA70~74CACBB75~79DBCCB。

Hale Waihona Puke TestTestClasses of Networks
• All addresses in the same class A, B, or C network have the same numeric value NETWORK portion of the address. The rest of the address is called the HOST portion of the address. • When written down, network numbers have all decimal 0s in the host part of the number.

Details of Classes A, B, & C
• Before starting to design subnets, you should know what it is that you've been given. Here are three ways of finding out what class your allocation is in. Use whichever you find easiest. • Class A addresses begin with 0xxx binary, or 1 to 126 decimal. (127 is loopback) • Class B addresses begin with 10xx binary, or 128 to 191 decimal. • Class C addresses begin with 110x binary, or 192 to 223 decimal. • If the first bit is 0 it is a Class A address • If the first two bits are 10 it is a Class B address • If the first three bits are 110 it is a Class C address
Binary (cont.)
• The trick to binary is to learn the decimal values of each bit for the first 8 bits. • Start from the left or right and add. • Just add the decimal values where there is a 1 (one) present, and you will have the decimal value of the octet. • The next slide shows the decimal value of each bit value.

Hierarchical IP Addressing (cont.)
• Two other ways to represent dotteddecimal 172.16.30.56 are:
– Binary
• 10101100.00010000.00011110.00111000
– Hexadecimal
IP Address Fundamentals (cont.):
• Each byte (8 bits) of the 32-bit IP address is converted to its decimal equivalent (hence, “decimal” of “dotted-decimal notation”). • Each of the decimal numbers in an IP address is called an octet.
IP Addressing Fundamentals:
• If a device wants to communicate using TCP/IP, it needs an IP address. • Any device that can send and receive IP packets is called an IP host. • IP addresses consist of a 32-bit number, usually written in dotted-decimal notation.
– The term octet is just a vendor-neutral term instead of byte.
IP Address Fundamentals (cont.):
• For example: 168.1.4.25
– The first octet is 168. – The second octet is 1. – The third octet is 4. – The fourth octet is 25.
Memorize
• • • • Binary 1111 1111 = Decimal 255 Binary 0000 0000 = Decimal 0 Know the values 128-64-32-16-8-4-2-1. The easiest way to remember it is to start at 1 and multiply by 2. • 1 * 2 = 2 * 2 = 4 * 2 = 8 * 2 = 16 * 2 = 32 * 2 = 64 * 2 = 128.
Classes of Networks (cont.)
• Network number example:
– Class A: byte. 0. 0. 0 – Class B: byte. byte. 0. 0 – Class C: byte. byte. byte. 0
• However, network numbers are not actually IP addresses because they cannot be assigned to an interface as an IP address.

Other IP Terminology
• Bit – a bit is one digit; either a 1 or a 0. • Byte – a byte is 8 bits. • Network address – also called the network number, uniquely identifies each network. Every machine on the same network shares that network address as part of its IP address. • Host address – also referred to as a node address, is assigned to and uniquely identifies each machine on a network. • Broadcast address - sent to all nodes on the network
