UNLOCK5课文20篇+参考译文(文字整理版)
UN5-U01-R1 Are we living in the digital dark ages?我们生活在数字黑暗时代吗?Imagine these scenarios: (1) 2040: A box of memorabilia, including floppy discs and VHS tapes is found in the attic of an old house with a label that says, ‘Records and early videos of Bill Gates (1975-1985).’ (2) 2050: You find an envelope labeled ‘bank records’ in your grandmother’s desk. Inside the envelope, there is an old CD marked with the date 1998, your great-grand father’s name, and the words ‘all overseas bank accounts’.
If these stories were really to happen, the people who found these items would be very excited – at least at first. Their excitement would be quickly followed by frustration because it would be very difficult for them to access the information on the discs and tapes. Even if the records were still in good condition, it would be very hard to find a device that could read them. Compare these discoveries to one that might have occurred around the turn of the twentieth century: a box of old letters and photographs on a high shelf at the back of a cupboard. The information these items contain would be immediately accessible because you would only need your eyes.如果这些故事真的发生了,发现这些物品的人会非常兴奋-- 至少一开始时是这样的。

专业英语教材
专业英语教材机械与土木工程学院Unit 1 Engineering MaterialsIn the design and manufacture of a product, it is essential that the material and the process be understood. Material differ widely in physical properties, machinability characteristics, methods of forming, and possible service life. The designer should consider these facts in selecting an economical material and a process that is best suited to the product.Engineering materials are of two basic types: metallic or nonmetallic. Nonmetallic materials are further classified as organic or inorganic substances. Since there is an infinite number of nonmetallic materials as well as pure and alloyed metals, considerable study is necessary to choose the appropriate one.Few industrial materials exist as elements in nature. For example, the natural compounds of metals, such as oxides, sulfides, or carbonates, must undergo a separating or refining operation before they can be further processed. Once separated, they must have an atomic structure that is stable at ordinary temperatures over a prolonged period. In metal working, iron is the most important natural element. Iron has little industrial use in its pure state, but when combined with other elements into various alloys it becomes the leading engineering metal. The nonferrous metals, including copper, tin, zinc, nickel, magnesium, aluminum, lead, and others all play an important part in our economy; each has specific properties and uses.Manufacturing requires tools and machines that can produce economically and accurately. Economy depends on the proper selection of the machine or process that will give a satisfactory finished product, its optimum operation, and maximum performance of labor and support facilities. The selection is influenced by the quantity of items to be produced. Usually there is one machine best suited for a certain output. In small-lot or job shopmanufacturing, general-purpose machines such as the lathe, drill press, and milling machine may prove to be the best because they are adaptable, have lower initial cost, require less maintenance, and possess the flexibility to meet changing conditions. However, a special-purpose machine should be considered for large quantities of a standardized product.A machine built for one type of work or operation, such as the grinding of a piston or the surfacing of a cylinder head, will do the job well, quickly, and at low cost with a semiskilled operator. Many special-purpose machines or tools differ from the standard type in that they have built into them some of the skill of the operator. A simple bolt may be produced on either a lathe or an automatic screw machine. The lathe operator must know not only how to make the bolt but must also be sufficiently skilled to operate the machine. On the automatic machine the sequence of operations and movements of tools are controlled by cams and stops, and each item produced is identical with the previous one. This “transfer of skill” into the machine, or automation, allows less skillful operators but does require greater skill in supervision and maintenance. Often it is uneconomical to make a machine completely automatic, because the cost may become prohibitive. The selection of the best machine or process for a given product requires knowledge of production methods. Factors that must be considered are volume of production, quality of the finished product, and the advantages and limitations of the equipment capable of doing the work. Most parts can be produced by several methods, but usually there is one way that is most economical.在产品的设计和产品中,是必要的是,材料和程序被了解。

万唯英语第五课写作范文
万唯英语第五课写作范文In the fifth lesson of Wanwei English, we learned about the importance of setting goals and creating a plan to achieve them. Goal setting is a powerful tool that can help us stay focused, motivated, and on track to success. Whether our goals are big or small, short-term or long-term, having a clear vision of what we want to achieve is essential for personal growth and development. One of the key steps in goal setting is to make sure our goals are specific and measurable. Instead of setting a vague goal like "improve my English," we should be more specific, such as "increase my vocabulary by 100 words in the next month." This way, we can track our progress and stay motivated as we see ourselves getting closer to our goal.Another important aspect of goal setting is to set realistic and achievable goals. While it's great to aim high and challenge ourselves, setting goals that are too far out of reach can lead to frustration and disappointment. By setting realistic goals, we can build confidence and momentum as we achieve them one by one.In addition to setting specific and realistic goals, it's also important to create a plan of action to help us reach our goals. This could include breaking down our goals into smaller, manageable tasks, setting deadlines for each task, and regularly reviewing our progress. By having a clear plan in place, we can stay organized and focused on what needs to be done to achieve our goals.Furthermore, it's important to stay flexible and adaptable as we work towards our goals. Life is unpredictable, and there may be obstacles or setbacks along the way. By being open to change and willing to adjust our plans as needed, we can overcome challenges and continue moving forward towards our goals. Finally, celebrating our achievements along the way is essential for staying motivated and inspired. Whether it's reaching a milestone, completing a task, orovercoming a challenge, taking the time to acknowledge and celebrate our progress can boost our confidence and keep us motivated to continue working towards our goals. In conclusion, goal setting is a powerful tool that can help us achieve personal growth and success. By setting specific, realistic goals, creating a plan of action, staying flexible, and celebrating our achievements, we can stay motivated and focused on reaching our goals. Remember, with determination and perseverance, anything is possible. Let's set our goals, make a plan, and take action towards a brighter future.。
四年级下册英语科普版第5 课文
四年级下册英语科普版第5 课文In the fifth lesson of our fourth-grade English science textbook, we embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of botany. This lesson introduced us to the wondersof the plant kingdom, its diverse species, and theessential role they play in our ecosystem. As we delved deeper into this topic, we discovered that plants are not just stationary beings that grow in the ground; they are dynamic and interactive components of our natural world.Plants are amazing creators of energy. Through the process of photosynthesis, they convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose, providing nourishment to themselves and other organisms in the ecosystem. Imagine waking up every morning to fresh airthat is a direct result of plants' hard work. This process not only supports life on Earth but also contributes to maintaining a healthy environment.Plants also exhibit remarkable adaptability, thrivingin a wide range of environments from deserts to rainforests. Each species has unique features that enable them tosurvive in their respective habitats. For instance, cactistore water in their stems to survive the dry conditions of the desert, while rice plants grow prolifically in flooded paddies. This diversity in plant species ensures the sustainability of our planet's ecosystems. Moreover, plants provide us with essential resources such as food, medicine, and shelter. From the fruits and vegetables we eat to the fibers used in clothing and the wood for our homes, plants are a constant source of sustenance and comfort. Their value extends beyond ourdaily needs; they also hold cultural and spiritual significance in many communities. As we explored the world of botany, we learned that plants are not just passive beings; they have complex interactions with other organisms, including humans. For instance, plants communicate with each other through underground networks, sharing resources and warning each other of potential threats. They also form symbiotic relationships with animals, such as ants and bees, who help them pollinate and spread seeds. The lesson also highlighted the importance ofprotecting plants and their habitats. As human activitycontinues to impact the environment, it is crucial that we take measures to conserve and restore plant diversity. We must respect and appreciate the role plants play in our lives and strive to protect them for future generations. In conclusion, the fifth lesson of our fourth-grade English science textbook revealed the fascinating world of botany. It taught us about the vital role plants play in our ecosystem, their remarkable adaptability, and their incredible contributions to our lives. As young learners, we must cherish this knowledge and strive to protect the plant kingdom for a sustainable future.**植物的魔法:为四年级学生探索植物学的世界** 在四年级英语科普版下册的第五课中,我们踏上了一段迷人的旅程,深入探索植物学的世界。

There are, however, nearly 7,000 languages in the world. After Chinese, the language with the most native language speakers isn't English — it's Spanish! Learning English is very useful, but it is wise to learn at least one other foreign language, if possible. There are many reasons why people learn a foreign language. Many students choose to study one of the languages that are spoken at the UN. As they think it means better job chances in the future. The UN has six official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. They are spoken by around 2.8 billion people as their native or second languages. Some students, though, choose to study a language because of family or friends. One American girl chose to learn Danish because her grandparents were from Denmark. When she was little, her grandpa used to read letters to her in Danish from their relatives in Denmark. Another young lady started learning French because she had several friends from African countries where French is spoken. What do you think? It is my honor and pleasure to stand before you today to share my thoughts on the topic of "The Importance of Learning English in the Modern World". As we all know, English has become the dominant global language, playing a crucial role in various aspects of our lives. In this speech, I will explore the significance of mastering the English language and why it is essential for us to prioritize its learning.Firstly, let us consider the widespread use of English in the world today. English is the primary language of communication in many international organizations, such as the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Trade Organization. By mastering English, we can broaden our intellectual horizons, access the latest research and innovations, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in our respective fields.Furthermore, the increasing prevalence of the Internet and digital technologies has further solidified the importance of English. When a population is proficient in English, it can contribute to the economic and social development of a country. Effective communication in the global language facilitates trade, attracts foreign investment, and enables the exchange of ideas and best practices. This, in turn, can lead to economic growth, technological advancement, and improved quality of life for the citizens. However, it is essential to acknowledge that the dominance of English in the world can also raise concerns about linguistic and cultural diversity. There is a risk of marginalization of other languages and the potential homogenization of global culture. It is crucial that we approach the learning of English with a balancedperspective, recognizing its practical value while also respecting and preserving the unique linguistic and cultural identities of different regions. In conclusion, the importance of learning English in the modern world cannot be overstated. From its widespread use in international communication, academia, and the digital realm to its personal and professional benefits, the mastery of the English language is a valuable asset that can open doors to countless opportunities. As we navigate the challenges and complexities of the 21st century, let us embrace the power of the English language while also fostering a deep appreciation for the diversity of languages and cultures around the world. 04 / 2018Wärtsilä Ballistic Ignition SystemThe ballistic ignition system will deliver a cascade of Zirconium sparks over the flare tip to ignite the flare gas and can be used under any weather or operating conditions. With no electronic equipment or movableparts located in the high heat radiation areas, the system is reliable and easy to maintain.Nearly one hundred pellet type ignition systems have been supplied by Wärtsilä worldwide. The complete system consists of a cabinet installed at an easy accessible area, a guide tube installed from the cabinet to the flare tip, and a fragment collector installed near the flare tip where the guide tube ends.BALLISTIC IGNITION CABINETThe ballistic ignition cabinet is instrument air driven (15 barg design pressure), and has a rotating magazine with room for 20 unarmed ballistic ignition pellets ready for use whenever needed. The cabinet design is simple to use, with one valve to rotate the pellet magazine and one valve to launch a pellet. Launching can be achieved manually from the cabinet, remote from the control room, or as a part of an automatic sequence based on client request. The pellet is both armed and launched by the same pressure and valve. The standard system is usually supplied with a 10 litre launching vessel, as well as buffer vessel to guarantee one launch in case of emergency (no instrument air, or electrical systems operational).GUIDE TUBEThe guide tube is a 25mm tube connected with special Parker Ermeto couplings designed to have the right amount of space for ease of passage of the ballistic pellet. It has been successfully tested to lengths up to 1000 metres, which can locate the cabinet in an easy accessible and safe area and is available in 316SS as well as 6MO.The top spool is delivered in Incolloy 800HT, which is capable to withstand high temperatures (additional 800HT lengths can be supplied at request). These sections are flanged due to the size.FRAGMENT COLLECTORThe fragment collector basically collects and stores the converted pellets after the launch. Supplied in Incolloy 800HT, it is also designed to withstand high temperatures. The Collector is capable to contain up to 2000pellets, therefore allowing up to 2000 ignitions between maintenance and emptying. The Wärtsilä ballistic ignition system has been developed to guarantee safe and reliable ignition of the flare whenever required, providing a highly reliable source of ignition for flare tips when flammable gas is present.eLP pelletLaunching medium: Compressed air Launching pressure: 5-7 bar (110 psi)Launching range: up to 2000m+Min. bending radius:3.6 mLP2000 PELLETThe LP2000 pellet is our well established source of ignition for the ballistic ignition system.
