Unit5 Do you have a soccer ball?

●Teaching aims:
1.To enable the students to know the sports things such as volleyball, basketball, soccer
ball, tennis ball, baseball, baseball bat, ping-pong ball and ping pong bat.
2.To enable students to talk a bout the ownership by using “Do you have a …?” “ Does
she/he have a …?.
●Teaching difficulties:
It may be difficult for the students to talk about the ownership by using “ Does she/he have
a …?” correctly and fluently.
●Teaching tools:
A tape player, PPT, the blackboard, some sports things and cards.
●Teaching procedure:
Play a video “NBA TOP10” before class, which can help raise students’ interest and lead the topic “basketball&sports” in.
Step1 Duty report & Lead in
While student are watching the video, th e teacher asks them some questions such as “do you know how old they are?” “What are they playing?” “Are they happy when they are playing basketball?”. Then lead in the topic by asking “Do they like playing basketball?” “How about you? Do you like playing basketball?” “How about Group6? Do they like playing it?” to welcome Group 6 to give a duty report.
Step2 New words presentation
After the duty report, the teacher asks” Do they like playing basketball?” “I like basketball. Because I like sports. Look! I have a big ball collection!”
Then the teacher show the basketball, volleyball and baseball by asking “What’s this?”
The teachers shows other sports things by describing with simple words and asking them to guess! While showing the sports things, the teacher shows the corresponding words on the blackboard as well as the pronunciations.
Step3 Quick response
The teacher shows some pictures of the sports stars on PPT, asking “What balls do you think of when you see the stars?” If the students think of the balls, they can stand up and say them out loudly!
Step4 New sentence expression presentation.
T: Look! I have a baseball. Do you have a baseball?
Then the teacher writes the sentence on the blackboard as well as their answers.
After asking several students, the teacher asks the students to ask their classmates.
Step5 Game Time: Who has a tennis ball?
One student comes to the front. He/She has to find the ball by asking “Do you have a tennis ball?”. Only three chances! If he/she can’t find it, the owner should stand up and say, “I have a tennis ball!”
Step6 Pairwork
A: Do you have a …?
B: Yes, I do. I have a … / No, I don’t. How about you? Do you have a …?
A: Yes, I do. I have a … / No, I don’t.
Step7 New sentence expression presentation.
After each pair of the students is making dialogues, the teacher asks the other students “Does he/she have a …?” On the one hand, the teacher can check if they are listening carefully, on the other hand, the teacher can present the new sentence structure naturally. Then write it on the blackboard as well as the answers on the blackboard. Use the red chalk to write “does” and “he/she” to remind students to be careful.
Step8 Miming and guessing
Ask the students to come to the front and act what ball they have, then others guess by using “Does he/she have a …?
But at the very beginning, the teacher acts for them as a sample first.
Step9 Pair work (talk about the sports stars appeared in the Quick Response) A: Does … have a …
B: Yes, he/she does. He/She has a …/No, he/ she doesn’t. But he/she has a …/How about …?

Step10 Practice
Finish 1a. Check the answers like “It’s a tennis ball in picture a.”
Step11 Listening
T: What are Tom and Jack talking about? Listen and circle the words you hear in 1b.
Step12. Listening
T: Look, some other students are also talking just like you. What are they talking about? Listen and number the four picures(2a)

Step13. Imitate the pronunciation and intonation.
Read after the tape.
Practice with the partners and ask three pairs to show their pronunciation and intonation. Step14. Groupwork (The teacher makes a sample dialogue first.)
Play a video about the disabled boy whose life was changed by sports.
A: Wow, a nice day today! Let’s play…Do you have a …?
B: No, I don’t. How about …? Does he/she have a ...?
A: I don’t know.
B: Let’s go and ask him/her!
A&B: Hi, …?
C: Hello!
A: We want to play … Do you have a …?
C: So rry, I don’t. I lost it this morning. But I think my friend … has one. You can ask him/her for it.

Step15. Homework
1. Read and imitate the four conversations again;
2. Make a survey in your group and fill in the blanks by using “Do you have a …?” “Does he/she have a …?”. Then write a report as the sample.
3. Preview the role play on P26.
