如记叙文一般都有五个要素:Who,What,When,Where和Why。

Unit 9 Wheels课时练1 阅读理解提速练[学生用书P273(单独成册)]Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·济南5月高考针对性练习)Lions are the top tourist attraction to Kenya and also considered critically endangered. One of the main causes of their death is that people kill them in return f or lions attacking their cows. “We put our cows in a small cow shelter at night,” locals said, “and that’s when the trouble would start. Lions w ould jump in the shelter and kill the cows.”There have been a lot of efforts to try to protect the lions, but they are in crisis and everyone is looking for a solution. One idea was land tenancy(租用),and another was lionproof fences. However, no one even knew that Richard Turere, a 13yearold Maasai from Kenya, had already come up with something that worked. One night Richard was walking around with a flashlight and discovered the lions were scared of a moving light. An idea was born. Three weeks later, Richard invented a system of lights that flash around the cow shelter, mimicking a human walking around with a flashlight. His system is made from broken flashlight parts and an indicator box from a motorcycle. “The only thing I bought was a solar panel(太阳能电池板), which charges a battery that supplies power to the lights at night,” Richard says. He calls the system Lion Lights. His simple solution was so successful. His neighbors heard about it and wanted Lion Lights too. He put in the lights for them. From there, the lights spread and are now being used all around Kenya. Someone in India is trying them out for tigers. In Zambia and Tanzania they’re being used as well.【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文。

For example, every morning, my dad has to have the bowl of egg soup while I had to eat an apple. My dad don't like the soup and I don't enjoy apples. I tell my mom that if we're forced eat things, we may become ill. But he insists on us eating healthy food. Understanding her good intentions, I eat all the food what is provided by Mom with appreciation.Ⅱ.阅读理解AGoogle's It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子), but it's not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own. This roughly 2inch by 2inch camera, with a threehour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone.Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序 ) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. “Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it'll try to get nice photos of those faces,” said Juston Payne, the device's product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved “training it to know what happiness looks li ke”. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shootlike when a child's hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse. The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing. Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet.“This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced,” Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we're likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets.1.What is the most outstanding feature of Clips?A.It is equipped with tough glass. B.It enables easy Internet access.C.It allows of handsfree photography. D.It can be worn on your clothing.2.What does the underlined word “candid” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Brief. B.Touching. C.Unforgettable. D.Embarrassing.3.What makes Clips a reality according to Juston Payne?A.The popularity of the Internet. B.The advance in technology.C.The rise of the smartphone industry. D.The reduction in the price of lens.4.What is the best title for the text?A.A New Digital Camera from Google. B.New Gadgets in the Age of Apps.C.Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life. D.An Alternative Way to Photograph.BMost of us show setup: thousands of hopefuls line up outside the audition (试音) room, wait for hours to go in and perform for a group of judges. Then these potential pop stars could be lucky and get through to the next round, or they might hear the command, “Sorry, it's a no from me.” But what do the judges actually bring to a talent show?Music talent show judges attract millions of viewers each week to their programs. As public figures, they play an important part in advertising campaigns for these programs. They often receive high salaries and can be moody. Are they really worth the expenses and difficulties that they cause? One solution might be to replace them with computers. Can computers really match human judges? Scientist Dr Nick Collins and his team at the University of Sussex think they can. Dr Collins has been working on a project that involves programming three computerizedjudges that he says would be far more consistent in their judgment of musical performances. Employing a special programming language, Dr Collins's digital judges can be trained up by “listening” to particular musical styles. After they have been listening for a while, the programming language allows these judges to spot the specific features of the music, including the voice quality, the rhythm etc. Collins says, “The judges' listening capacity is not yet as good as a hu man ear, but they won't be as moody as some human reality TV show judges.”Maybe that is the problem with this electronic musical innovation. Real human judges on talent shows interest us with their personality, decisions and catchy phrases. Will a computer program be able to do the same?5.The arrangements of the traditional talent show are described in Paragraph 1 to ________.A.find out more potential pop stars B.show the popularity of the talent showC.make people familiar with the talent show D.bring up the topic of talent show judges6.What is the key message conveyed in Paragraph 2?A.Music talent shows are very competitive.B.Music talent shows cost too much money.C.There are some problems with talent show judges.D.There are too many advertisements in talent show programs.7.How does Collins think about his computerized Judges?A.They can listen as well as human ears. B.They will be welcomed by the public.C.They will be perfect for any talent show. D.They can judge more fairly than human judges.8.What's the author 's opinion about replacing real human judges with computerized ones?A.Doubtful B.Interested C.Satisfied D.OptimisticⅢ.

AHave you ever wondered?1. Why do airplanes take longer to fly west than east?It can take five hours to go westeast from New York (NY) to London but seven hours to travel eastw est from London to NY. The reason for the difference is an atmospheric phenomenon known as the jet(喷射)stream. The jet stream is a very high altitude wind which always blows from the west to the east across the Atlantic. The planes moving at a constant air speed thus go faster in the westeast direction when they are moving with the wind than in the opposite direction.2. What would happen if the gravity on the earth was suddenly turned off? Supposing we could magically turn off gravity. Would buildings and other structures(建筑物)float away? What happened would depend on how strongly the things were attached to the earth. The earth is moving at quite a speed, moving at over a thousand miles per hour. If you turn something around your head on a string(细绳), it goes around in a circle until you let go of the string. Then it flies off in a straight line. Switching off gravity would be like letting go of the string. Things not attached to the earth would fly off in a straight line. People in buildings would suddenly shoot upwards at a great speed until they hit the ceiling. Most things outside would fly off into space.1.What information can we get from the first passage?A.It is the jet stream that affects how fast airplanes fly.B.Planes go slower when they are moving with the wind.C.It takes more time to fly from NY to London than from London to NY.D.The jet stream always blows from the east to the west across the Atlantic. 2.The underlined word “shoot” in the 2nd passage probably means “________”.A.send for B.move quicklyC.come out D.grow quickly3.It can be inferred that without gravity ________.A.buildings and other structures would float awayB.trees and buildings would not so easily fly offC.something around your head would not float awayD.everything outside buildings would fly off into space4.Where can we most probably read this text?A.In a research paper. B.In a short story.C.In a travel magazine. D.In a student's book.BI've spent over a year in India, and in those 365 plus days,I've learned a lot about getting around Indian cities. My biggest lessons have been learned through being cheated, particularly by taxi and rickshaw(人力车) drivers, but that doesn't mean those are bad ways to travel,as long as you know what you're doing.Below are thebest ways to get around the city of Delhi,India, and tips for how to keep from being the victim of scams(诈骗).Taking taxis is a great way to get around the city of Delhi and chances are,if you arrive in Delhi by plane,as soon as you make it through customs, you'll be swarmed by Indian taxi drivers. At the Delhi airport,be sure to arrange for a taxi to your hotel at one of the two Delhi Traffic Police Taxi Booths. One is inside the airport, and one is outside. The key is to make sure to go to a booth run by the police, rather than by independent taxi drivers.Rickshaws are one of my favourite ways to get around Indian cities,in part because it's how the locals often travel.Autorickshaws are more common, but bicycle rickshaws are still used in old Delhi. If you do have a chance to take a bicycle rickshaw, you should do it at least once for a unique experience that should only set you back about 15 rupees.Autorickshaw rates around Del hi range between 30 and 80 rupees, depending on distance. If you really want to travel around Delhi like the locals, take a public bus.Indian buses become very crowded and most do not have air conditioning. They are, however, very cheap.A bus trip won't set you back any more than 15 rupees,as long as you stay within the city limits.Since Indian buses get so crowded, try to board the bus at the start of the route so you can get a seat. The train is a great way to get around within the city of Delhi.Fares are reasonable, between 6 and 22 rupees. All departure announcements are in both Hindi and English, and tokens can be purchased for between 6 and 22 rupees.5.The author is trying to ________ in Delhi through this text.A.give some advice of travellingB.expect us to travel aroundC.show his/her experiencesD.explain the difficulties of travelling6.The author suggests taking a rickshaw in order to ________.A.save some moneyB.enjoy the comfortable tripC.gain some unique experienceD.help the local rickshaw drivers7.What can we infer from the passage?A.You won't have to pay much if you travel around by bus in India.B.It will be difficult for you to get a seat if you get on the bus halfway. C.A rickshaw driver only charges whatever amount you give him.D.You'll have to speak English if you travel around in India.8.Which may be the topic that follows?A.Hotel recommendations in Delhi.B.Weather conditions in Delhi.C.Food and drink in Delhi.D.Car rentals in Delhi.Ⅱ.完形填空There are many different ways of seeing a town for the first time. Unit 9 Wheels李仕才一、If you have a chance to go to Finland, you will probably be surprised to find how “foolish” the Finnish people are.Take the taxi drivers for example.Taxis in Finland are mostly highclass Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. You can go anywhere in one, tell the driver to drop you at any place, say that you have some business to attend to,and then walk off without paying your fare. The driver would not show the least signs of anxiety. The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also serve outside diners.Hotel guests have their meals free,so they naturally go to the free dining rooms to have their meals. The most they would do to show their good faith is to wave their registration cards to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can easily use any old registration card to take a couple of friends to dine free of charge. The Finnish workers are paid by the hour. They are very much on their own as soon as they have agreed with the boss at the rate. From then on they just say how many hours they have worked and they will be paid accordingly. With so many loopholes(漏洞) in everyday life, surely Finland must be a heaven to those who love to take “petty_advantages”.But the strange thing is that all the taxi passengers would always come back to pay their fares after they have attended to their business and that not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms. And workers always give an honest account of the exact hours they put in.As the Finns always act on good faith in everything they do,living in such a society has turned everyone into a real “gentleman”.1.The underlined words in Paragraph 5 means to “________”.A.be ready to help othersB.make good use of one's friendsC.be a little ahead of othersD.gain something at other's expense2.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A.While taking a taxi in Finland, you can get off without first paying your fare.B.In a big hotel in Finland, you can enjoy free meals if you're living in the hotel.C.The bosses in Finland pay the employees according to the registration of their working hours.D.The workers are always honest with their working hours.3.We can learn from the passage that ________.A.the Finnish society is of very high moral(道德的)levelB.there are many loopholes in everyday life in FinlandC.in Finland, most taxi drivers will not charge you anythingD.everyone in Finland is like a gentleman, for they have faith in themselves 4.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?A.Life in FinlandB.A Society with “Foolish” PeopleC.What a LifeD.Honest accounts of the Finns【解题导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文,主要通过一些例子,介绍了芬兰人的诚实,并且诚实让他们成为真正的“绅士”。

They programmed the robot into tricking a “predator (捕食者)” machine by doing what a squirrel does: showing the enemy a false location for an important resource. The team also looked at how other animals—in this case, a species of bird called Arabian babbler—drive off predators. A babbler will make an alarm call when they see a predator and other babblers will join the bird and make more calls. They then surround the predator, all the while flapping (拍打) wings and making noises. The babblers don't ever actually fight the animal they want to drive off; they just make enough noises and flaps around enough so that it seems that attacking a babbler isn't worth it.They found that the deception works when the group reaches a certain size—essentially, when enough birds arrive to convince the enemy that it's best to back off. Davis modeled that behavior in software using a military scene and found that it worked even if the group didn't have the firepower to confront the enemy directly. The military is interested in this because a robot that can fool an opponent is a valuable tool. It could lead an enemy down a false trail or make itself look more dangerous than it actually is.文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。

入舵市安恙阳光实验学校Unit 9 Wheels 课时练1 2篇阅读+1篇完形Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020·合肥高三联考)Two deer jumped out in front of 16yearold Amanda Floyd’s car. She put on the brake, stopping the car just in time. But later, she started texting. Distracted, Amanda turned left and right, then crashed into another car. Luckily, she wasn’t in a real car—she was in a driving simulator(模拟器) at Roosevelt High School, Ohio, US. “I never really realized that cars made a turn that much,” Amanda, a junior, said. She added that she wouldn’t text while driving anymore. The Ohio Department of Transportation(ODOT) and Ohio State Highway Patrol brought the simulator to the school. They said they wanted to help students learn about the danger of driving while drunk, texting, or talking on the phone.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving claimed 3,450 lives in 2016 alone. Experts believe the actual figure is probably higher. The simulator is basically a computer program. Like many computer games, it was a hit with the students. They lined up and crowded around to watch each other take turns. The simulator has a steering wheel(方向盘), brake and gas pedal(油门). It is made up of three large computer screens on a table.Students choose a distraction, such as driving while drunk or texting. They always crash, of course. Then, they are pulled over by the police to be taught the bad results of their driving:how much damage they’ve caused, what their fine is, if anyone died in the accident, and if they’re going to go to prison.“It teaches how to drive without being on the road,” said Shante Thompson, 16. She had just crashed into a deer.ODOT spokesman Justin Chesnic said hundreds of kids have gone behind the wheel so far. He said even more have benefited from watching their classmates.“Driving is such a major responsibility, so take it seriously,”he said. “Put away your cellphone. A lot of the accidents out there are because of distracted driving. It can not only change your life, butchange someone else’s life forever. The results are serious.”【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了一个驾驶模拟器,学生通过操作这个驾驶模拟器可以增强交通安全意识。

backing a workplace parking charge which will come into force in Nottingham in 2013 and is likely to be adopted across the country. The scheme will see firms with more than ten parking places for staff charged £350 a year for each space in two years.Employers would be free to pass on the charge to their staff—meaning it would effectively be a tax on driving to work. The scheme aims to reduce traffic by preventing unnecessary car journeys and raise funds to improve public transport, but critics say it is just an excuse for councils to fill their coffers (金库).Some ten million Britons drive to work each day,and the British Chambers of Commerce says the new charge could total £3.4 billion a year if rolled out nationwide.Already some firms in Nottingham have threatened to leave the city, where 40,000 commuters use their cars to get to work.A spokesman said the scheme was nothing morethan a tax on jobs.“It is very unfair t o discriminate against those employers who have parking spaces, which get vehicles off the streets,” he said.“And these charges apply around the clock, which is especially unfair on shift workers who rely on their cars because public transport is not available. This is more about increasing the government’s income than reducing traffic.”However,Transport Minister Sadiq Khan gave the plan an official approval during a visit to Nottingham. The council says the tax will raise as much as £100 million over ten years—one fifth of the cost of a new transport system for the city.Another transport spokesman Theresa Villiers said the tax would have a devastating impact on businesses struggling to cope with the economic decline. But Richard Hebditch of the Campaign for Better Transport said the tax would raise money to invest in better transport.“We put forward the idea of workplace parking taxes as a fairer way to raise money to invest in the future local transport services. We are pleased that the people of Notti ngham will be the first to benefit.”1.Supporters argue that the scheme________.A.can help improve the parking conditions for the staffB.should be applied to ail commuters driving to workC.is certain to be carried out despite the objectionsD.will relieve traffic pressure and improve public transport2.According to the objectors, the scheme is unfair for________.A.the firms with parking lotsB.the workforce without carsC.the employees parking The problem with cell phones seems to be that they are allowing for even more spillover between work and home. This may be especially true for working women, the study found. Among men, consistent use of mobile phones seemed to allow more work issues to creep (潜入)into family time. But for women, the spillover tended to go in both directions. Being “connected” meant that work cut into home time, and family issues came into work life.Cell phones seem to be opening more lines for stressful exchanges among family members. But there may be ways to control the spillover, according to Chesley.Employers, she said, could look at their policies on contacting employees after hours to make sure their expectations are “reasonable”.For their part, employees could decide that cell phones go off during family time, Chesley said.36.What does the underlined phrase “taking a toll on” probably mean in Paragraph 1?A.Explaining. B.Founding.C.Damaging. D.Extending.37.According to Chesley, what is the best solution to the problem caused by cell phones?A.Refuse to use cell phones.B.Separate work hours from family time.C.Ignore coming calls during family time.D.Encourage women to stay at home.38.We can learn from the passage that ________.A.cell phones make the line between work and home unclearB.cell phones seem to be convenient to familiesC.cell phones affect men as much as womenD.we can do nothing to solve the problem39.What is the main idea of the passage?A.How to control the negative spillover caused by cell phones.B.Cell pho nes cause negative “spillover” between work life and home life.C.Consistent use of cell phones makes people feel less satisfied with their work.D.How work life invades home life.Ⅳ.短文改错One day, I went to the railway station to buy a ticket to my aunt. When I got there, I told that the ticket had all been sold out. Just then a man came up and said with a strongly Zhejiang accent that he had a spare ticket. you, there are quite a few choices. Here are some tips that may be helpful in choosing a wheel.Steel wheels—offered mostly for offroad or as a low cost alternative to aluminum(铝).Steel wheels can be improved by making small changes with a spray can or brush if the need ever arises.A chromed steel wheel is likely to rust and is likely to need repair, especially in areas that use salt on the roads in the winter. They are heavier than aluminum wheels, thus, add some additional stress to suspensionand braking(刹车)parts.Another downfall of steel wheels is that they are handbuilt wheels and have lower ability of bearing in regard to run in,sometimes causing shaking problems on the street.ALWAYS dry your wheels off after going through a car wash. The chemicals used in car washes these days can leave dirty spots that are difficult,if not impossible,to get rid of.ALWAYS wash the road salt off your wheels as soon as possible.Salt can eat into the last part of a wheel and leave pits and stains that cannot be fixed.ALWAYS check the directions on a cleaner before you use it on your wheels or tyres. Some tyre cleaners will forever discolour wheels and some wheel cleaners contain acids that will eat certain types of wheels.52.The passage mainly tells us about________.A.how to repair and fix wheelsB.how to buy and wash wheelsC.how to introduce and use wheelsD.how to choose and protect wheels53.If from dangerⅣ.任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)Millions of people from all over the world use the Internet to communicate, get information and play games. However, using the Internet can have both positive and negative effects on young people. As for positive effects, children can use it for searching useful articles andmaterials. Also they can do their homework on the computer instead of writing it down. The Internet gives children possibilities to learn about new things in life, and discover how people live all over the world.Children can communicate with their friends and relatives who live far away.In addition, they can make friends and talk with people in foreign countries. However, there is much information that can be dangerous to children and damage their development. When children surf the Internet, they can easily be tempted into something that is not proper. When kids start to communicate with strangers online, they don't know that they can be talking to a sick or a harmful person and may meet the person later.Another thing is that many children only play games rather than learn online.Too much sitting before the computer can be unhealthy and result in stress injuries, obesity and social isolation.Parents have a big responsibility to guide and guard their children and set clear boundaries to what kids do.Parents can reduce the risks for their children by setting sensible rules and knowing what their children are interested in.你所在的班在英语课上讨论“What are the advantagesand dis advantages of public transportation ?”。
