(共15小题,每题2分,共30分)
A
First aid is emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until more skillful medical treatment is available. It may save a life or improve certain vital signs including pulse, temperature,a clear airway(气道), and breathing. In minor emergencies, first aid may prevent a victim's condition from turning worse and provide relief from pain. First aid must be administered as quickly as possible. In the case of the Critically injured, a few minutes can make a difference between complete recovery and loss of life.
Firstaid measures depend upon a victim's needs and the provider's level of
knowledge and skill. Knowing what not to do in an emergency is as important as knowing what to do. Improperly moving a person with a neck injury, for example, can lead to permanent spinal (脊柱的) injury and paralysis (瘫痪).
Despite the variety of injuries possible, several principles of first aid apply to all emergencies. The first step is to call for professional medical help. The victim, if conscious(有意识的), should be reassured that medical aid has been requested, and asked for permission to provide any first aid. Next, assess the scene, asking other people or the injured person's family or friends about details of the injury or illness, any care that may have already been given, and preexisting conditions such as diabetes (糖尿病) or heart trouble. The victim should be checked for a medical bracelet (手镯) or card that describes special medical conditions. Unless the accident scene becomes unsafe or the victim may suffer further injury,do not move the victim.
First aid requires rapid assessment of victims to determine whether lifethreatening conditions exist. One method for evaluating a victim's cond ition is known by the acronym(首字母缩写词)ABC,which stands for:
A—Airway: Is it open and clear?
B—Breathing: Is the person breathing? Look, listen, and feel for breathing. C—Circulation: Is there a pulse? Is the person bleeding externally? Check skin color and temperature for additional indications of circulation problems.
16.First aid may bring about all the following results EXCEPT________. A.saving a victim's life
B. preventing a victim's condition from getting worse
C.relieving a victim from pain
D.helping a person avoid sudden illness or injury
17.Before we offer first aid to a victim,it is very important for us to________.
A. make sure what to do and what not to do
B. refer to all kinds of handbooks on first aid
C. remove the ring or bracelet he may be wearing
D. take him to a hospital at once
18. When giving first aid to a victim, you should first of all________.
A. remove him from the accident scene
B. turn him over
C. call for professional medical help
D. examine him carefully
19.You may assess a victim's condition by all the following EXCEPT________.
A. checking whether there is a pulse
B. looking, listening and feeling for breathing
C. replacing his medical bracelet or card

I picked up my two best friends and we were off on a road trip. I had just returned to America from a year abroad in China. So,naturally I wanted to take a trip to Canada.
Montreal, the second largest city in Canada,is a fourhour drive from my home in New Hampshire.
We felt a thrill as we crossed the border into Canada. It was the first time I had ever driven across an international border.
We turned on the radio to try and find some Canadian stations. After dropping off our bags at our hotel, we were immediately walking down the famous St. Catherine's street. While we walked two things surprised us: how cold it was and how well everyone dressed. The streets of Montreal are like a fashion show. Both men and women look like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine.
All of that fashion has to keep them warm since Montreal is so cold. Last year it broke the record for snowfall in North America. To hide from the cold we went into a small diner because we wanted to order Poutine, a very popular snack in Montreal. It is French fries covered in cheese and brown gravy (肉汁). It is delicious.
However, we had a hard time ordering the dish since the official language of Montreal is French. It is actually the fifth largest Frenchspeaking city in the world. But since the rest of Canada speaks English, plenty of people were there to help.
We spent the rest of the weekend going to the historical churches and monuments in Montreal. But at night we'd head to the very modern dance clubs and bars. Montreal
is a city that sits between the past and the future and the traveler can choose whichever direction he wants to go in.
20.________ surprised the author when he was in Montreal according to the passage. A.Its cold weather and welldressed citizens
B.Its delicious snack and beautiful streets
C.Generosity and kindness of the citizens there
D.Its beautiful streets and welldressed citizens
21.How do you understand the sentence“Both men and women look like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine”in Paragraph 4?
A.The men and women are really fashion models of a magazine.
B.The portraits of the men and women are printed in the magazine.
C.They are so welldressed that they look like models of a magazine.
D.The men and women like to copy characters in magazines.
22.Which of the following can't we conclude from Paragraph 4?
A.The author and his friends couldn't wait to explore the city.
B.The author wasn't used to the weather of Montreal.
C.The citizens from Montreal care much about what they wear.
D.Montreal often holds fashion shows.
23.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The author often went to China for a visit.
B.The people they met in the diner were kind and helpful.
C.All the people in the diner were locals.
D.The author went to Montreal on business.

For centuries, in the countries of South and Southeast Asia, the elephant has been an important part of the culture, economy and religion. And nowhere more so than in Thailand. Unlike its African cousin, the Asian elephant is easily domesticated. The rare socalled white elephants have actually lent the power of royalty to its rulers, and until the 1920s the national flag was a white elephant on a red background. To the early Western visitors, the country's romantic name was “Land of the White
Elephant”.
Today, however, the story is very different. Out of work and out of land, the Thai elephant struggles for survival in a nation that no longer needs it. The elephant has found itself more or less deserted by previous owners who have moved on to a different economic world and a society in the western part. And while the elephant's problems began many years ago, now it has a very low national advantage.
How does the national symbol turn into ignored animals? It is a story of worse environment and the changing lives of the Thais themselves. According to Richard Lair, Thailand's expert on the Asian elephant and author of the report Gone Astray, at the turn of the last century, there may well have been as many as 100,000 national elephants in the country.
In the north of Thailand alone, it was estimated that more than 20,000 elephants were employed in transport, 1,000 of them alone on the road between the cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen. This was at a time when 90 percent of Thailand was still forest—a habitat that not only supported the animals but also made them necessary to carry goods and people. Nothing ploughs through thick forest better than lots of surefooted elephants.
By 1950 the elephant population had dropped, but still to the number of 13,397. However, today there are probably no more than 3,800, with another 1,350 wandering free in the national parks. But now, Thailand's forest covers only 20 percent of the land. This deforestation (采伐森林) is the central point of the elephant's difficult situation, for it has effectively put the animals out of work. This century, as the road network grew, the elephant's role as a beast of burden decreased. 24.Thailand was once called “Land of the White Elephant” because ________. A.the white elephant was a national symbol until the 1920s
B.the white elephant is rarely seen now and thus very special
C.the white elephant has helped kings to gain the ruling authority
D.this name was so romantic that it was popular among visitors
25.Why is the Thai elephant “out of work”, according to the author? A.Because there are too many elephants but too few jobs.
B.Because the elephants can't do labor work any longer.
C.Because the government pays little attention to the problem.
D.Because the elephants are no longer useful to their owners.
26.Which of the following statements is TRUE about the elephant population at various times?
A.There were at most 100,000 domesticated elephants at the turn of the last century. B.20,000 elephants were employed in transport in Thailand at the turn of the century. C.By 1950 the elephant population in Thailand had been quite small.
D.Today the elephant population is estimated at 5,150.
27.The passage is most probably from ________.
A.a travel magazine
B.a history book
C.a research report
D.an official announcement

Please contact the office at 480-472-5282 if your child is going to be absent. Renaissance Reading:
The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program is a computerized reading enrichment program that combines great children's literature with computer skills. As an individualized reading program, it is designed to motivate students to read more and to read good literature. Students of different abilities can use this program. It is not a competitive program but one that improves any student's reading ability.
Here is how it works. Students select books in their reading range from our Accelerated Reader Selection and read it at their own pace. Once the student has completed the book, he/she is ready to take an AR quiz. Each quiz consists of 5, 10, or 20 multiple choice comprehensive questions about the book.
After taking the quiz, the computer shows the student how many questions he/she
answered correctly, shows the correct answers for missed questions, and praises the students' efforts with an onscreen personalized message. Passing the quiz assures the teacher and the parent that the child actually read and understood the book. Each student tests independently—reading the quiz questions himself/herself.
The computer keeps track of reading points, books, and average test scores, as well as other data. A student may test on a book only once and should, therefore, have thoroughly read and understood the contents before taking the quiz. Each student is responsible for reading the screen to be sure the quiz, by title and author, is the correct one he/she wishes to take.
Students are recognized for their accomplishments with praise from the teachers and special recognition at the classroom level when individual and/or classroom goals are met.
PTO:We have an active Parent Teacher Organization. They have monthly meetings, check the calendar for the meeting times and places.
28.The passage is written for________.
A.general readers B.parents
C.teachers D.primary students
29.Which of the following is TRUE about how Renaissance Reading works? A.Students select books based on the instruction of the computer.
B.Students take the quiz without others' arrangements.
C.The result of the quiz will be kept by teachers.
D.The summary of the book to be selected is shown on the screen.
30.It can be inferred from the passage that______.
A.students won't be punished if they don't pass the quiz

第四节书面表达(满分25分)
Dear friends,
In today’s world, being able to master a foreign language will be helpful in our life. Here,I’d l ike to share my learning methods.
First, I think it useful to learn grammar and remember as many useful sentence patterns as we can. I believe the more we read, the better our English will be. So
I spend much time reading English newspapers and magazines after class, which helps
a lot to improve my English. Besides, TV and radio programs are also of great help.
Learning English not only increases my awareness of foreign cultures but also helps me to communicate with English-speaking people and make more new friends. However, sometimes I get discouraged because I keep forgetting words I have just learned. I’d like to use the opportunity to seek for your advice.
Thank you!。
