The Oklahoma teen’s eyes were covered by two blindfolds (眼罩) . She didn’t know she would meet her father, James, after 12-year separation.
"I had actually discussed with her the night before at a restaurant and talked over the details of where we would go and how we would pull them off,"said Amanda, Rory Beth’s mo ther.
A video shows Amanda led her blindfolded daughter out of their car and guided her across the parking lot of Broken Arrow Lanes in Broken Arrow.
Little did she know, her father was on the sidewalk holding a birthday cake that read, "Happy Birthday Rory Beth, Love Dad."When the teen slowly pulled down her blindfolds, she was dumbfounded. Both the father and daughter stood silently looking at each other until James finally walked over and hugged her. James
only broke their embrace to look at his daughter and hold her face. "There were definitely lots of tears from James, myself, and boys, and even a few bystanders,"said Amanda.
James was a truck driver who spent a lot of time on the road, and Amanda split with him when Rory Beth was a baby. "It was hard to figure out how to make it work,"Amanda said. Amanda felt Rory Beth was now old enough to understand and to ask any questions she may have, so the reunion happened.
The birthday surprise was on June 4, and the father and daughter had seen each other again since, even celebrating Father’s Day together. Repair cafés, a concept founded in Amsterdam in 2009 by Martine Postma, are exactly what they sounds like: a place where locals can sit back, relax and enjoy a coffee or tea while they have their things fixed by someone —a friend or neighbor, perhaps — who is skilled at working with small appliances.
Alternately, these community centers function as friendly and supportive places for folks in possession of broken consumer goods to build confidence and try fixing the items themselves. After all, sometimes all a beginner needs is an encouraging environment and the right tools to handle a repair project.
Whether passing off an in-need-of-repair item — be it a bicycle, or a pair of boots — to more experienced hands or choosing to go the fix-it-yourself route, the end goal of repair cafés is to reduce waste by keeping mendable items out of landfills and in circulation for as long as possible.
It took time for Postma’s throwaway culture-fighting concept to catch on outside of the Netherlands. But as The New York Times reports, nearly a decade later, repair cafés can be found in great abundance. Today, there are roughly 1,100 repair cafés found in nearly 30 countries. The Amsterdam-based Repair CaféFoundation, a grassroots nonprofit in which Postma is still actively involved, serves as a sort of resource-heavy mothership for the movement and works to promote and provide guidance to the nascent repair cafés popping up across the globe.
Some repair cafés are equipped with reading areas so that aspiring tinkerers and DIY technicians can brush up on new skills by perusing repair and home-improvement minded books and magazines. As the Repair CaféFoundation notes, some folks even pop into repair cafés empty-handed; they’re content with a hot drink watching the magic of repair work.
The popularity of the repair café movement, a movement that aims to "teach people to see their possessions in a new light,"has even inspired some governments to promote repairing in place of throwing out and buying new.
28. What is the goal of repair cafés?
A. To get people to reduce waste.
B. To show people’s creative ability.
C. To urge people to value old things.
D. To encourage people to exchange skills.
29. What is the atmosphere of the repair café?
A. Competitive.

31. What will be talked about in the following paragraph?

Urban biking requires entirely different bikes than suburban biking does and therefore a Bike Design Project started where five design studios across five cities had to come up with a perfect urban bike. The winning bike will be produced for a limited run of 100 bikes and will be in stores next year. Industry, a Portland-based studio came up with a very interesting bike: one that uses bluetooth and handlebars that tell you when to stop or turn.
Industry worked together with Ti Cycles to create a bike with a 3D printed frame. The bike is called Solid and can connect to a smartphone app: My Bike. This app alarms a user when a light needs replacement and if something gets wrong with one’s brakes. There is also software called Discover My City, which has a series of routes through Portland’s most trendy neighborhoods, with suggestions about where to eat and shop.
However, the idea with cycling is that you need to focus on the road and not on your smartphone. This
bike therefore uses feedback(反馈) on handlebars. Those handlebars tell a user when to turn, as they will buzz when a turn appears. As you’re getting closer, they will buzz more frequently. And then there’s the possibility to control your light via built-in sensors and change the chain by pressing an electronic button. Yes,
a bike for superman.
Although the bicycle looks highly interesting and can be seen as a piece of art for the designing world, we don’t know if we would like our bike to have an automatic buzz when we’re approaching a turn. On the other side: it could add some extra safety to traffic in general. Whether you like the bike or not, you have to admit the Portland-based studio brings the concept of urban biking to a whole new level.
32. What can we know about the Bike Design Project?
A. It only produced one hundred bikes.
B. It was to inspire people to cycle.
C. Its aim was to invent a kind of city bike.
D. It was a worldwide project.
33. How can the user change the chain?
A. By using the handlebar.
B. By looking at the feedback.
C. By controlling the light.
D. By pressing an electronic button.
34. What is the advantage of the new bike?
A. It is much safer.
B. It is lighter.
C. It moves faster.
D. It is low-cost.
35. What might be the best title for the text?
A. Urban Biking Is Taking over the Road
B. This 3D Printed Bike Tells You Directions
