13、Body language is quiet, secret and most powerful language of all. It speaks louder than words.
According to specialists, our bodies send out more messages than we realize. In fact, non-verbal(非语言) communication takes up about fifty percent of what we usually mean. And body language is especially important, when we try to communicate across cultures.
Indeed, what is called body language is so much a part of us that it’s actually often unnoticed. And misunderstandings happen as a result of it. For example, different cultures treat the distance between people differently. Northern Europeans usually do not like having bodily contact(接触),even with friends. And certainly not with strangers. People from the Latin American countries, on the other hand, to uch each other quite a lot. So it’s possible that in conversation it may look like a Latino is following a Norwegian (挪威人)all over the room. The Latino, trying to express friendship, will keep moving closer. The Norwegian, very probably seeing____as rude behavior, will keep backing away, which the Latino will in return regarded as coldness.
Obviously, a great deal is going on when people talk. And only a part of it is in the words themselves. And when parties are from different cultures, there’s a strong po ssibility of misunderstanding. But whatever the situation is, the best advice is to obey the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.

14、Where does your food come from? How is it made? These days, many people worry about food safety. But food safety is not a new worry. In 1906, Upton Sinclair(辛克莱,美国作家) wrote the Jungle. The book is the story of a poor family in Chicago. It is also about the dangerous ways that food was prepared. People were so worried that the U.S. started testing food.
These days, most food in the world is safe. Laws control where food comes from. They also control how food is managed and prepared. Laws are important. But i t’s more important to make sure the rules are followed. A good food safety system(系统)keeps people safe. It also helps them eat healthy food. Labels(标签)on food give people important information. Then they can make good choices about their food.
Although food safety systems usually work, there can be problems. Sometimes mistakes are made. For example, a truck might carry eggs and then ice cream. The ice cream could make people sick when the truck isn’t cleaned before carrying it. Other problems are not mistakes. Sometimes companies break rules to make more money. When this happens, people don’t know if their food is safe.
As we all know, food is closely connected to our daily life. We should take actions to make food safer!

15、Tanzania Tarangire is a national Park which lies in Tanzania. The park itself covers an area of around 2,850 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest park of its kind in the country.I recently visited Tarangire to see what it was like.
One of the first sightings upon entering the park which I found was a huge group
of elephants. Our guide told us that Tagrangire was probably the best place in Tanzania to find large group of elephants, and that their population in the park was around 2,1.We continued to watch the elephants as they stood under trees and scratched themselves against the trees to hit the spot of an itch.
To the right of the elephant group, we noticed a big tree! Our guide informed us that this was a Baobab tree and that they could live for hundreds of years.Compared with this tree, the elephant just looked like dwarfs (much smaller plants or animals)! We were informed that Tarangire was one of the best National Parks in Africa to see so many
Baobab trees.
As we continued our drive through the park, we finally reached a watering hole. Our guide warned us that there were lions all around us.It took us all a while to find them, but there they were! Most of them are resting in the shade under bushes, but there was one that was drinking from the watering hole directly in front of us.We then noticed just to our right, there were a couple of fresh zebra bodies — it seemed as if the lions which were resting had killed them! We were unlucky not to have seen the kill, as our guide had mentioned that the zebra bodies were fresh and the kill had happened within the last hour.
Our final big sighting was one that none of us were expecting to see, even our guide! We stopped at a place where there were quite a many cars, with a sleeping leopard(美洲豹)there! We took photos and watched its surprising body before returning to our hotel as it was getting late.
So, I hope you enjoyed my description of Tarangire, and add this amazing park to your very own Tanzania travel route.2.Which statement is correct about the park?

16、Would you completely trust your friends if you couldn’t see anything? If you are falling, do you believe they will catch you and help you stand up? Our teacher helped us to find the answer.
Our teacher is named Morrie. One day, he said that he had a game for us to try. He divided us into two groups. One of the students from the first group, stands in front of us with his eyes closed, and then falls backwards(向后). The second group stand behind him. Before he falls on the floor, they should catch him and not let him get hurt. Most of us were uncomfortable with this. We were afraid that they wouldn’t catch us and we would hit the floor. So we didn’t move. We
just stood there and laughed in embarrassment(尴尬).
Finally, one student, thin, quiet, dark-haired girl called Sarah, decided to move. She crossed her arms in front of her body, closed her eyes, and slowly fell backwards. She looked quiet but brave.
For a moment, I was sure she was going to fall on the floor. But before she hit the floor, the other students caught her, held her and finally helped her stand up.
“Whoa!!” we were all surprised, and also encouraged. The girl was happy, too. Seeing this, Morrie smiled and said to the girl, “When you close your eyes, you can’t see anything. You won’t feel safe. When you are falling, the feeling gets stronger. You are not sure whether you will hit the cold, hard floor or the warm, soft hands of your friends. But if you are brave enough to trust them, they won’t let you down.”

17、Building Kids’ Fun
Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White and Winnie the Pooh...every kid dreams of the da y they’ll get to visit these famous characters, and ,most important of all, the magical world of a Disney theme park. And five very lucky kids get to experience all the excitement as often as they’d like in their grandpa’s backyard—no waiting in lines necessary.
A Fullerton, California grandfather was inspired to create something so fun in his own backyard that his grandkids would always want to visit.
Steve Dobbs, 68, said his grandchildren got easily bored with a toy train that he got them to play with in his
backyard. Lucky for them, he happened to be an amazing aerospace engineer(航空工程师).
“My younger grandkids are nuts about Disneyland,” Dobbs told The Orange County Register website.” I wanted to give them a reason to come over to my house to spend time w ith me, and Disneyland is tough to compete with.”
It all started with a “Small World” themed ride and it’s only grown from there over time. The mini theme park is full of the same kind of princesses, castles(城堡), trains and tunnels(隧道) you’ll see at the ac tual Disneyland park, which happens to be not too far from the Fullerton home.
It’s now complete with attractions inspired by Disney movie favorites such as Finding Nemo and Frozen.
And as the kids got older, their grandpa was sure to provide them with the full theme for a roller coaster(过山车). Dobbs is a professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and he asked his students to help him build the ride.
All in all, the theme park has cost him about $6500(43470yuan) but it’s well worth it. “It’s an old man’s hobby,” Dobbs said.
But to his family, it’s so much more than that.
“Dobbsland might be miniature(微型的) in size, but it’s huge in the hearts of our family and friends,” Dobbs’ daughter Cori Linder wrote in a blog for the Babble website. “The best part about Dobbsland? Getting in is free”. 1.Steve Dobbs built a park in his backyard because __________

18、Parents and children often face the challenges of money. Common topics include setting the pocket money, learning to save, and deciding on expensive purchases. The goal of most parents is to teach their kids how to manage money wisely. The goal of most kids is getting money to spend. How can families balance these goals?
“All parents hope they’ll raise a money-savvy kid, who’ll grow up to be an adult wise in their money use.” says financial (金融的)planner Peg Eddy. The key is letting kids learn by having a little money of their own.
The Tidier family in Denver found the best way to teach about money was to let their kids earn some. Their son, Ryan, 17, has been helping with their garden since he was 8. Now he has been able to save $7,800. Ryan has come to see the value in making his own money even when other kids are given money by their parents.
Learn Now, Save Later
Money skills are an important part of becoming a successful adult. David Brady, another
financial planner, says, “Young people today will have much more responsibility for their financial future than their parent s or grandparents.”
Brady does remind kids. “They shouldn’t be thinking about money all the time,” he says.
However, they should understand basic rules for earning, saving and investing (投资).
That knowledge is greatly needed. Over the past years, the average credit card debt (债务)of Americans ages 18 to 24 doubled, to nearly $ 3,000. Among high school students, four out of five have never taken a personal-finance class. Talking About It
Many kids want to learn how to manage their money. But parents
think only about what kids shouldn’t do. Instead, experts say,
knowing how to manage money is the best way for kids to get
what they really want. That means long-term planning and saving
for big expenses like college or a car. It also means thinking of others, by making donations to charity (慈善).
Giselle Lopez, 17, of New York City, learned the hard way. She was over $ 2,000 in debt on her first credit card. Her parents refused to pay, so Giselle got a job. Then she paid the debt off slowly herself. “Now ever y time I use it, I know that it comes from my own pocket,” Giselle says.
“That gives me a sense of responsibility for my actions.”
Different kids will have different styles when it comes to money. Teaching them how to use
money doesn’t have to mean settin g strict rules. When children like Ryan and Giselle have their own money to consider, they can learn to set those rules themselves.
1.Brady believes that .
A.parents should attend more personal-finance classes
B.parents should teach their kids how to save
C.kids should learn how to manage money
D.kids should follow the school rules
2.Why did the writer say Giselle Lopez “learned the hard way”?
A.Because she had to pay the debt off slowly herself.
B.Because she had to make donations to charity.
C.Because she had difficulty finishing her job.
D.Because she had too many credit cards.
3.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Saving Matters! B.Parents Rule! C.Classes Work! D.Money Counts!
