Naturally, American schoolchildren love holidays.
And they get a lot of them each year.
Besides having national holidays such as Thanksgiving and President's Day off
from school, students get longer breaks in the spring and during the summer holidays. In fact, kids in the US only go to school for about 180 days a year. To students, holidays are perfect. However, parents think there are advantages and disadvantages.
On the one hand, school holidays allow families to spend time together. Many American parents take time off from work during June, July or August to travel with their children on vacation either in the US or in a foreign country. On the other hand, schoolchildren get much more time off school than parents get vacation time. This means that parents with young children may have to pay more in the babysitting or day care cost. And the long summer holidays mean that students sometimes get bored.
Besides going on trips with their parents, American students enjoy taking part in different kinds of activities during the holidays. For example, some kids enjoy summer camps and outdoor adventure holidays. Such trips are great for adventurous students. They also have a lot to offer students who aren't usually interested in traditional PE activities. You can do courses in survival skills, for example. Students learn how to make a camp in the forest, which wild food they can eat and how to find their way back to the center.
Students who are not excited about summer camps and outdoor adventures may take part in courses in computer game design, filmmaking and photography during the holidays. Finally, the traditional school trip to foreign countries is always popular. Students can practice their foreign language skills and experience everyday life in a different culture.
47. How long are kids in the US at school every year?
A. About 180 days.
B. About 280 days.
C. About 200 days.
D. About 300 days.
48. What does the underlined word“They”refer to in the fourth paragraph?
A. Some kids.
B. Different traditional PE activities.
C. Parents.
D. Summer camps and adventures.
49. Which of the following is true?
A. Both parents and students think school holidays are perfect.
B. Parents can take care of their young children during all the holidays.
C. Students enjoy taking part in different kinds of activities during holidays.
D. Students don't like to have school trips to foreign countries during holidays.
50. What would be the best title for the passage?

Camping in your backyard is full of fun, whatever your age is. It's great for keeping us relaxed. It offers chances to check the night sky and to be noisier than usual. It lets us have friends over to stay who might not fit inside the house! Follow these instructions and you'll have a night you'll never forget!
Put up your tent.
Depending on the number of family members and guests, you may need more than one tent. Tell your friends to bring their tents if needed. Follow the instructions or check out the articles on how to put up a tent on the Internet.
Prepare your bedding.
You'll want your guests to be able to relax in comfort. Put something soft to lie on on the floor: A blowup air mattress or thick comforters may work well. Fill the tent with soft toys and blankets (毯子). Have lightweight sleeping bags or cotton blankets. They are especially important if you live where the night temperatures drop greatly.
Prepare a seating area.
If you have a picnic table, that would work best. If not, set up a few chairs and a small table to set out drinks and food. A simple choice is to lay out a blanket in the sun, so that your friends can eat and talk. Make sure the grass isn't wet!
Make memories.
Plan some activities. You're camping in the backyard, so it's time to make the most of being outdoors.

九、One possible version:
Parents' encouragement is good for their children's growth. It's a nice way for parents to speak highly of their children when they make progress. It is very common for parents to buy their children presents. For example, when Li Jiang made progress in his study, his parents bought him stationery,a mobile phone and so on. After Li Jiang won prizes in the competitions, his parents took him to the restaurant for a big dinner. When Li Jiang did some housework,he could get some extra pocket money from his parents.
I don't think it's really a good way for Li Jiang's parents to give him
something or money as encouragement. I don't want my parents to buy me something when I've done very well in my study. I hope they can give me more chances to decide what I can do in my free time. If so,I will be more confident to do everything better. And it's good for my growth.。
